Everytime I saw the camera I made sure to smile..it looked like I was having the time of my life!!! Here's a link to my photos..if anyone cares to see..I definitely feel like I'm toning in my upper body, I can tell compared to other pics on my profile page. Hopefully it doesn't rain too hard this weekend, we've got a 44 mile bike ride planned Sunday and I'd like to actually do it! They only had 2 pics of me....from the run only. Huh? I made the photographer laugh on my second loop, thought for sure he'd snag a good shot of me! Oh well, I'd just as soon forget about that day anyway. Only thing I did was prove my mental effort was good when the physical effort was an uphii battle in all directions... |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well Judi I guess that means you were just too fast for the photographers!!! LOL..that's why there's so many of me!! ![]() Run tomorrow and weather pending 44 mile ride on Sunday. I'm actually looking forward to it! Hope it doesn't rain too hard! Hope everyone has a great weekend! |

Royal(PITA) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had a terrific swim lesson tonight, he made some observations that were very interesting to me.....My times per 100 dropped by 5 seconds from the start to end of the class. Seems I need to move my arms about 2x the speed I have been. Do that with 2x the legs I have been and a minor adjustment of wrist angle on entry and wowsa!!! What I am having a hard time with is increasing the stroke count is increasing the efficiency. BUT, I did feel the water pushing past my forearms for the first time ever. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Gang. I'm still alive. This was a rough week for me. My severe allergies combined with being overwhelmed by the IM took a toll on me. I'm working through my RUT. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy weekend to everyone. I have had a great morning so far I ran 4 miles in 40:32 my fastest time yet and then followed it with a 20 mile ride. I had to get the ride in today because I will be volunteering tomorrow all day(4:30am to 1:30pm) at a local tri. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm reposting this from my training log. I'm so happy with today!! I feel like I'm back. I rode my bike to Weight Watchers and back. First weigh in was HORRIBLE due to the lazy eat-fest I've had this week. It felt good to be there though. I felt very responsible. After that I jogged to my kids soccer game. A great way to get some work outs in. Happy!! Tomorrow my hubby and i are doing our Silent Sunday ride. There is a 7 mile climb straight up and another 13 mile loop. It is nice b/c the roads are closed to auto traffic. YES!! The best part is that I will be testing out my new aero bars and my new PEDALS!! Got them today and new sun glasses. I"m Pretty stoked. Ron is working on installing everything now. YES! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() BTW - I'm getting excited b/c I'm training in the same races and doing the same work outs as some of the AZ BT'ers around here. I've been hesitant to work out with them b/c they are all tri gods and goddesses and I've been very intimidated. I had one reach out to me this week. She is doing IMAZ and so is her friend who is also an athena. I'm pretty excited about getting to know some folks heading toward IMAZ. The other cool thing is my buddy from the CA70.3 who helped me finish the race found me on BT! It is fun to have a great support network! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Race photos look great ladies!! Kate - I'm so glad you found people to train with. That's a huge boost I think and is really going to make it more fun to boot. Glad you're finding your mojo back. I went and ordered a 1-speed bike today. Partially because my husband and friend won't ride w/ me on my race bike... but I also don't let my bike out of my site because I can't afford to replace it. It's a $1600 bike. I didn't pay that much for it but if I had to replace it... it would cost me at least that much so I'm just not cool with locking it up to do errands or take to the park for a run. Figured if I got a 1-speed I could ride with others and have a short commute bike. It's a little flashy it might get stolen too but at least it's more replaceable. I'm not a pink girl, but I got an obnoxious pink one. I was just really amused with it. ![]() Also I ordered a wetsuit because I found a good clearance sale on some zoots. I went and ordered a size L-Short but then I got nervous that I might not lose that much weight. (It's supposed to fit to 155 and 5'5) So even though it already shipped I went and ordered the XL. I guess I'll either send one back or just throw the extra one up in the classified section. I only paid $145 for a Full Sleeve which is an awesome deal. I know there is a chance it might not fit me right, but I decided to take the gamble. My current suit is a Sleveless Blue Seventy (XLA-size) and I'm assuming by later this summer it's going to hopefully be too big. I'll hold onto it though just incase I can't make the zoots work. Ugh spent WAY too much money this week. Between those 2 things and the bike tune-up/fix I think I'm not allowed to spend any more money next month. Great training this weekend guys! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Love the bike Debb! It is pretty cute. I'm not a pink girl either but this bike is beyond pink. It has Edge! Don't feel bad about spending. You deserve it! These are investments in your health! Judi - Sounds like a nice ride with your friends. Those are the best! As for me, DAY 2 of logging food is better. I'm thinking a lot about my choices. I'm having a hard time with my activity points but I figure I'll see how it all comes together at the weigh in on Saturday. |

When I got my first road bike, back in, I guess, maybe 2002 - after having done triathlons for a couple years on a hybrid - I went to my local bike store and explained what I wanted and all. He would NOT sell me a bicycle until I took home these bike racing videos (think Tour de France and Giro d'Italia) and watched them and then brought them back and explained what I learned. This was so bizarre that I did it. Apparently what I reported about what I had learned satisfied him and then he sold me my Bianchi. After I got the bike I was getting the little tool bag and the stuff to put in it and all of that and then I said I wanted a lock and chain. He wouldn't sell them to me. He said that if I was going somewhere where I would need to lock my bike, I should take the hybrid. You know, I didn't get a lock for my road bike until about a year ago and then I think I have only locked it once. And, of course, I bought the lock from him (after serious begging). I know I could have bought it from a zillion other places, but that would have taken the sport out of it. I really like my LBS and my bike guy. It and he are a little strange, but I trust them. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm home. I had a terrific time. I have a cold and have had it all weekend. I seem to get a head cold every couple months and this has been going on now for maybe over a year. I have never been a sickly sort of person before and I think it has to do with all the training and a depressed immune system. I don't really know what else to blame it on. I have a very healthful lifestyle - my diet is impeccable, I don't drink, smoke or do drugs (if you don't count regular antihistamines). While I don't ever have a totally and complete rest day, I do have plenty of days where my only exercise is what I call a "weak peach" which is ten situps, ten pushups, ten squats, and ten lunges. Just something to get my peach. For instance, this weekend (as soon as I get around to updating my log) will show about a mile of walking on Saturday and today will be a weak peach day. Obviously this weekend was because of being sick, but a lot of times it is just life interfering. Anyway, the only thing I can think of is that I am not getting enough sleep. I prefer going to bed about 9pm, but I try to stay up to about 10pm because otherwise Chuck and I have so little time together. I do get up between 4:30 and 5:00 am on weekday mornings. So, what do you think? Do you think not getting enough sleep would be enough to cause me to get a cold every couple months? I'm thinking about tracking my sleep and these colds to see if there is any correlation. |

Let's start it after we hit 100 pages. Now for the name. I think it is OK that we call ourselves Nutsos in posts, but not for the Subject line. I think we deserve more respect than that. On the other hand, I don't think we want to take ourselves all that seriously. I have a punny suggestion that I wish I could take credit for, but I can't. I have to give credit to GailG, but it is definitely inspired. "We are the committed." That can be taken as we are the committed, as in committed to the local loony bin, paying homage to the nutso idea. Or it can be taken as we are committed to this lifestyle and training for our HIMs or IMs. If we are in agreement, I will start the new thread after we reach 100 pages and give a short history of the first 100 pages and a link to this thread so that any new people will be able to figure out what this is about. What do you think? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry you are under the weather. You are tougher than i am though. When I'm down and out, there is nothing going on. This is obvious from my yello calendar. I never get enough sleep. I know it is an issue for me. The night time is the only alone time I ever get! I am all for you starting a fresh thread. I'm not very creative so I'll leave the name to you and the others. I'm here for the long haul. Name doesn't matter to me. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() O, i'm back on the training wagon again. Hurray! I did start the build up of the bike over the weekend - after stripping parts off a bike we don't use, and discovered a minor flaw - my chainstay bridge is positioned too far back so i have to deflate the rear tire to get the wheel in the frame - OOPS. Well I guess I know what building tools I need to buy first - vise, files, brazing torch & assorted accoutrements. Fortunately, I don't think it will take more than a half hour to fix. I need a bunch of new parts though... crankset, headset, bottom bracket, stem to name the biggies so the build out is gonna be a while. A fellow student has contacted a local powder coater and asked if we could get a discount on paint job. Still haven't decided color tho... I need to build up the bike once before paint anyway - I hope I can get it built out by July, and painted by the end of the summer. We shall see. Scouring net for deals. Short run on tap today. I probably won't get back in the pool until later in the week. On Tuesday while I was brazing a drop of hot flux landed on my knee and left middle finger - both were burned pretty good - the finger is almost healed but the wound on the leg is just getting scabbed over nicely. So no pool for at least a few more days. Over the weekend I signed up for the Portland Tri Clubs mock tri at the end of may, it'll be a mock oly - will treat it as a training day as first oly is two weeks later! It's the day before my 2000m OWS so that'll be good practice as well to dial in the wetsuit. The day starts with clinics and then race followed by bbq. Awesome deal for $25 buckeroos. Now I have to catch up on a whole bunch of back logged work - so it'll be office day for me. Yucko. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hooray! Kiri is back! I'm sure ou will get right back into the swing of things. Especially with Leah trying to catch your 2010 numbers!! I had a great day today. I packed my lunch and logged my food. When hubby is gets home I'm going out on a run. I want to try to be strict all week and see how much it pays off. Other news for me. (1) I signed up for a Splash n Dash for Saturday - 500 m Swim and 5k. (2) I sent a check in to join the Phoenix tri club. I've looked over all the websites and this seems to be a pretty mixed group of people. I also joined b/c I emailed 3 groups about their programs and this is the only club who emailed me back. Hope everyone is having a great day. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning ladies and Scott - I think this marks 20 weeks until IMoo for me... a time when lots of people begin their official training program. Things are really going to start ramping up shortly, and soon we will see how nutso this girl really was. It was re-test/rest week for me last week for LT/HRzones. Just did the run one and managed to average a 9:55 pace (over 6.0mph!) I'm pretty floored by that! Last summer when I re-started for my Oly after taking too many months off a 5k took me 42 minutes. I could probably break under 30 now if I really pushed it. Pretty amazing. The second wetsuit I ordered appears to be out of stock... but they are going to see if they can get more. Maybe if I believed in fate that would be a sign that the LargeSH size was good enough, but I did tell the lady to let me know if they do get more. What's everyone got going on this week in terms of long rides/runs? |
![]() ![]() |
Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kate the tri club will be good for you... Even if you're like me and don't get to meet anyone they still usually have great group workouts, discounts, and informational meetings. Ours even has this great newbie program. Wish they had it when I joined the first year. My club is super huge there are hundreds of people in it (even a few from my IM group) so it's a little tough to get to know anyone especially if your super-shy like me. ![]() |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kate - I just joined one of the local triathlon clubs here. Mid-Maryland Tri Club...have been getting a lot of emails from them regarding rides, OWS, other races and the like so it's nice to check out. I have another race this weekend in Jersey and the club is having a Brick N Pic which I would have loved to have gone to if I didn't have the race. Hopefully I can make the next meeting Monday. I think I joined because they're a larger group and I see them everywhere but the really cheesy reason?? At the Irongirl triathlon every year they've got the food tent for members set up right past the finish line...if you're not a member?? You've got to climb this ridiculous hill to get any nourishment....yeah, that'll be worth the membership fee alone..LOL I've also decided to tell my mother not to come down for my HIM in June. As much as I'd love to have her there cheering for me as I cross the finish that's a lot of time for her to be hanging out or dropping me off and finding her way back to the race area later on. Plus I'll be stressed all weekend up to the event so I don't think I'd be too relaxed or fun to be around. My friend and her family will be there to cheer her on, I've got one friend officiating and a couple of other friends are checking their calendar to see if they can make a road trip so as much as I really want her there I think I'd enjoy her visit more when we can have a nice relaxing weekend of doing tourism things like going to DC for the museums or shopping at IKEA (she doesn't have one close to her and she loves browsing). I have had a killer headache today. Combination of stress and sinus from the rain coming in and out around here. I'm hoping to get a run in tonight but right now it's not looking good because it's not getting any better. Tomorrow I've got spin class in the am and the rest of the week just light swimming and running before Bassman this weekend. I like the "Committed" classification...I'll bring the psychotropic drugs! |
![]() ![]() |
![]() Thanks to Leah re the shoutout on my name suggestion. Here is the back story. I don't think you guys are nuts. Partly b/c I have a PhD in psychology and nuts has a very specific meaning there. The most important thing I learned while IM training was that everyone who matters takes you seriously, and nobody matters more than YOU. So I told Leah that the most important thing about doing an IM is really being committed to it and recommended you call your group "we should be committed" because I know you do love referring to yourself as nuts regardless what I think. |
