So, Lance has 19s over Contador and 24s over Evans.  Not much but better than nothing.

TTT should be interesting tomorrow.

So you think Bertie will be trying to drop LA in the last K of the TTT tomorrow???

I'm sure he'd love to.  I wonder if Lance can speak any spanish or do they have to communicate with hand gestures.  I can think of one that Contador might have used after todays stage...

They might as well break into two team time trials and race each other.  You just have to cross the finish together right?

Time is usually taken at the fifth man

That is the problem for some of the weaker teams, should be fun!

Just reading cycling news and they are suggesting that Lance knew that Columbia were going to attack.  Could Hincapie given Lance a heads up...?

Hmm That'd be a coup if Georgie were showing some help for his buddy.  Team Columbia has no legit edit: GC contender right?

Procured from Slowtwitch:

Probably went something like this.

A week before the tour:

Johan: Lance, when you hear me hit the transmit button on the radio 3 times, get off the team frequency and switch to channel 7.
Lance. OK.

Today's stage:

BZZ BZZ BZZ

Johan: Lance? you there?
Lance: Yup. Whassup.
Johan: You ain't gonna freakin believe this. Contador missed the break. I'm holding the rest of the boys back. Ride like hell! and I slipped George a few grand this morning too, he's gonna pull for you like the good ol days.
Lance: SWEEEET!

Just watched on DVR! Holy cow, how does Contador miss the break? Shame on him. Good on LA for catching it.

I'm definitely not wise in the ways of the Tour, so pardon my newbie question...  Since this was only stage 3, and the time difference between LA and Contador is still under a minute, does today's result really make a huge difference?  Or is it mostly psychological, i.e. egg on Contador's face?

No, you are dead on.. they are playing a repeat of 2001 right now. Lance started 9 minutes behind on stage 11. 40 seconds is practically tied for 1st on stage 3. In history, Lance hands back until the hills. He just does not want anyone pulling too far ahead. He also wants to be in front of the Peloton so that he does not get caught up in a "dominoes" crash.

I think that they are trying to keep a level of drama so that people will still watch the earlier stages=== not subtantiated, just a hunch.

Not a newbie question.... Here's how I view it:

Astana has 4 riders (among the 9) who are capable of being on the podium: Contador, Leipheimer, Kloden and Armstrong.

So the question is: Who should the team support? (Because you can't support all 4 of those riders. What is someone has a flat tire? Do they drop back, or keep riding? Etc.)

So today may not have made a big difference in terms of time... But when Lance went with the breakaway AND told the other 2 Astana riders to take their turns working to keep the group ahead from the peleton, it's like Lance is sending the message that he's gunning for the yellow jersey.

So it's psychologicial, I think, in that it was Lance's message to his team that HE is the strongest Astana rider, and they should support him.

But hey, I don't even own a real bike, so I could be wrong.

the peloton has just passed by a field of large black cows

Got some commentary about that. Very tasty apparently. Not as nice as roast DONKEY though.

I liked how the helicopter made them all run away.  Poor cows!  They were just hanging out and some meanie in a helicopter chases them!

How did Versus stop recording with 17 miles to go!  What!?!?!

I got to see the break leave and then it ends.  I hate Tivo sometimes!

Still, the break is pretty impressive.  I can't believe the Contador and Leipheimer missed the break.

Turned to Versus just in time.  They are where the coverage ended on the Tivo.  I'm much happier.

And talking to myself.

Well Im pretty sure that Leipheimer is there as a support rider to be honest... after he had allthe team behind him atthe Giro....

Contador.... is the *official*team leader...

Lance.... is probably the smartest guy of the lotstrategically in terms of seeing how the action unfolds so most likelyto SEE where he needs to be an when...

Kloden.... no idea...

A bit of both....

In resnt years TOurs have been won and lost less by differences of less than that... if you have to MAKE time up... all your rival has to do is stay with you (not waste energy attacking) and so there is the potential that those kind of losses could make the difference in Paris...

However... right now its a matter of being patient and not panicking for the riders who lost time.... but without being able to predict the future... every little bit counts!

Hey Cat, given Dodgers huge effort up front in last night's breakaway, do you think that Columbia have plans for him other than GC? He was amazing BTW - a real general for the team. Both Cav and Lance owe him a huge thanks...
