Wow - congrats on holding even watts the whole ride even with the wind. Looks like ~22mph on the way out and ~28mph on the way back. That's a pretty crazy difference.

actually my coach "shanks", pretty much dogged me out for going 320 into the wind on the front half and 280 with the wind on the return.... i hope to do the same thing again haha.

I'm in trouble, I opened my bike case and the fork is missing. I saw it was inspected by TSA and I imagine it was left out during the inspection. Is there a bike shop in the area that may have a front fork for a Cervelo P2?

Bicycle Connection in Metairie (about 15 minutes from downtown) is the local Cervelo Dealer.

Call and ask for Donald, he is the owner.

Weather update....looks cloudy, which will be nice. no real chance of rain, with humidity decreasing throughout the day so that should help the later waves. Temps might be higher, but humidity will be lower.

The wind is almost due south now, which will kinda change the feel of the bike. If the current wind forecast holds true we will likely have a bit of a tailwind heading out and more of a headwind on the return. The course itself runs west to east to start, then back east to west but as you can see it also runs south to north a little our of transition.

So, I would expect a day of alot of cross winds with two sections of direct head and direct tail winds but neither is that long.

Regarding the run, this might make it feel a bit warmer out on the lakefront, then once we turn off the lakefront we will be running into a headwind for about 3 miles before we turn into City Park.

Lastly, as I'm sure alot if not all of you know, this weekend is French Quarter Fest and the host hotel (Hilton) is just adjacent to the festivities. So, if you are not staying at the host hotel and need to drive to packet pickup, be advised parking will be a MAJOR pain the late this afternoon and especially tomorrow. Do not park illegally or you will get ticketed for sure.

The city of NOLA loves writing tickets for these types of things..watch parking in freight zones, too close to corners, etc.

If you want to park at the Hilton and it is full, try the Harrah's Casino parking lot across the street (if you go play for a bit Harrah's will even validate your parking for you), if that is full as well move away from the French Quarter and back towards the Crescent City Connection (Miss River Bridge). You may end up having to do some walking so if you have the ability to take care of packet pickup today, I recommend doing so.

Thanks for the heads up. I won't get into NOLA until around 2 tomorrow, so I won't have lots of time. Thanks for the info. I'll likely drive straight in to packet pick up.

Good luck finding a fork! That's terrible!

I don't know how I feel about cross winds as opposed to straight head/tail. Anyone here have major experience with crosswinds?

I'm in the car about 200 miles from NO so I'll grab my packet today. Thanks for the heads up. In staying at the W right there so in just sucking it up and paying the hotel $40/day for parking...

I don't really want to rewrite my post about the crash, but you can see it on slowtwitch.

seems rather relative when you consider the crash, but Tri bike transport sent my gear bag - helmet shoes kit etc- to Florida. They say they are overnighting it to NOLA, but it's an added stressor

Adam- in the event that the bag hits a snafu and does not get here, would the shop be the place to go? I'd need pedals, helmet shoes. Oh and a kit to race in. Hoping usps comes through ...... Oh an a couple water bottles. More things keep coming back to me

A group of locals will be doing something to show our respect. I think putting his initials FG on our calf. I'll let you all know what is decided.

Adam's Bicycle World would probably be the easiest solution and will have everything you need. They are just not by LBS.

Since being in the sport I have been on Cervelos so I have dealt with our Cervelo dealer and have formed a relationship with them the last 6 years or so. Adam's deals with Kestrel, Fuji, Giant, etc but certainly have a well deserved reputation of being a quality shop. Being that time is not your friend, I would call Adam's today and explain your situation and tell them what you might need, then ask them to hold it for you. If they have 1 pair of shoes in your size, last thing you need is for them to sell them.

I will bring my aero helmet, palm bottle and two bike water bottles today, no worries. If it works, use them, if not no harm and my feelings won't be hurt.

Seriously, just give me a call today if you have any questions. I've got an OWS at 7, a massage at 8 a hot towel shave at 10 (pre race day is m day for manpering), but after that I should have my phone on me the whole day.

I knew hot hot it could be on the run. Hell, I told you all on he video...and I still let it cook me like a scrambled egg.

Swim and bike went just like I thought it would....I left T2 at 3:16 and needed to run a 1:45 (8:15 per mile) to come in under 5 hours. Well, I ran my worst 13.1 ever. EVER. And that includes both second halves of each IM Marathon I have done. It isn't that I over biked because I think I was actually under by 3 or 4 watts, I was just flat out cooked when I walked into the run, I just didn't know it,

I was expecting upper 70s and overcast and just simply got dehydrated and didnt have enough fluids. Ended up taking 2 liters of IVs and happy I gutted out to a 5:36.

Anyway, congrats to all. I have a month before Gulf Coast 70.3 and some redemption.

Hope you guys enjoyed the race and our city.

I think I had the exact same race as you. Swim went well. Bike was tougher than I thought it would be. I pushed the watts a bit hard to the turnaround thinking I'd get a little tailwind relief. Ummmm. No. The only tailwind sections were pretty short. I also dropped the plastic water bottle out of my BTS holder about 5 miles past the first aid station. Figured I'd get one at the next station which didn't come until 40 MILES in. And then another station at mile 50???? They need to fix that. So I was also dehydrated and had nutrition issues with calories.

I also don't think I overbiked and was also a bit below planned watts, but got on the run and knew immediately it wasn't happening. I had to run a 1:55 to go sub 4 (but didn't have a running clock so had no idea). I just ended up throwing the pace plan out the window and running everything but aid stations, which got hard enough. Wasn't my worst half Mary but not near my best. I actually didn't think it was that hot out there, except when there was a tailwind. And I wasn't going very hard, just plodding. But I got a nice sunburn.

swim :30, bike 2:30 run 2:13 , 5:24

Yeah, that was hot. Forecast said cloudy all week, but that sun was brutal. I managed a decent run and finally got my sub 5, so I was thrilled.

Swim :36 Bike 2:32 Run 1:45

With transitions, I came in at 4:58:xx.

It's a decent course. The water is 20% gasoline, but that marina swim works ok. It is great having roads closed on the bike. The run is fair and isn't completely flat (as LSUfan had pointed out), just unprotected in the sun. I hope everybody had a good time.

Glad I wasn't alone on having a rough day. Swim was a couple minutes off pace but no big deal, then the bike just never felt easier. I kept waiting for relief from the wind and didn't get it. I bike about 5 watts lower then planned and still felt rough on the run. I had GI issues all day too. Probably stopped 8 times on the run to go to the bathroom. ROUGH but a finish is. Finish!

BTW, thanks for the recommendations.   My buddy had Johnny's said it was great.   The only place we got to was Jacques Imos but it was AMAZING.   Soft shell crab and some cornbread, abita amber.   Best meal we had

Hope everyone gets home safely. My wife and I had good days. Her first 70.3 so the tough conditions were a rude welcome. With only one tri under her belt, back in 2008, this was a tall task. She had a good swim, hard fought bike and a tough run but she's happy and already planning out her next one.

I have IMTX to look forward to in a month so I rode closer to IM pace than 70.3 pace and I planned on running a "whatever I felt like" pace. Came in under 5:20, had a great time, and smiled all day.

The free beer and food afterwards was nice, hit the French Quarter Fest later that evening and ended with some beignets to close the evening.

Good luck with the rest of your year everyone.
