Master 1565 SMIBville | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Eagleman Triathlon : Official Thread Looks like they are repaving a few sections of road, too. The section of route 16 through Church Creek (which was pretty bad) and then the stretch of Golden Hill Rd between Hoopers Island Rd and Key Wallace. Maybe next year they'll get Egypt Rd (wishful thinking)... |

Seems every year someone is looking for a room, thought I'd throw it out there if there is any need. |

Expert 972 Falls Church | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Eagleman Triathlon : Official Thread My training today was the Columbia Triathlon. It went really well. I am very pleased with the effort and results. I felt that I followed my race plan which was to get through the swim, not over bike, run well, and practice drinking/nutrition. Met all of those goals. These are my basic goals for Eagleman. Although the run part will probably be changed a bit...like to "run sort of well". Swim was in a yucky lake. Bike course was very hilly, challenging, and thrilling. Run course was partially in a park and partially through a neighborhood -- some good hills here too. Given the course and other really fast women AG'ers, I did really well. Here is my report. The race has great race swag (it should given the registration fee). A new tri duffle (it's so perfect), visor, bottle, shirt, and performance food samples. I'm most excited about the duffle. It's just perfect and will replace my daughter's swim backpack that I'm using. This is a good boost of confidence leading into the last few weeks before Eagleman. |

Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Eagleman Triathlon : Official Thread I agree Melanie: it was a great race and I loved the bag. I wonder what they are going to have at Eagleman. The race is a perfect tune up to check the gears before EM and get a good quality workout. I took 5 min off last year and was only going at 90% so I am excited it see what I can shell out in three weeks. It got me psyched to race again. Only 2.5 weeks till taper! |

Straight up I-95. Anyone from Fl, Ga, SC or eastern NC. Drove over 6 hours this past weekend each way for race and decided l can not handle 11 hours by myself each way. l do not think my wife can make it, so l am reaching out to all the wonderful triathlon people that might be in my same boat. |

The jellyfish aren't too far away...I swam through some yesterday. So...what is best sunscreen for jellyfish? I have used SeaSafe on my kids. Seems to work ok. I swam face first into a big jelly two years ago in the Delaware Bay during a training swim. Really, really startled me. So much so that both calves cramped up for several minutes and I just had to tread water. Headed to shore right away when I could. Had stings across shoulders and arms. Luckily my face hit the top hard part. So it was just tingly for about an hour. That was the end of my training swims in the bay. |

I tried Sea Safe a few weeks ago in the Gulf of Mexico; seemed to work, while not perfect, was a lot better than without. I'm in one of the last waves, so maybe everyone else will clear a path? Maybe this is one advantage of a late wave? |

High 70s or 80s? I can't remember. Well..... all the work is done.... Time to rest and recover for two weeks! OLE! |

Science geek time: Last year the bay and the tidal rivers were very fresh from lots of snowfall and a wet spring - keeping the nettle population low and delaying their arrival. It's been pretty dry this year so far (and no snow) which usually means a good year for sea nettles. Unfortunately this species of jellyfish also has the ability to encapsulate itself and sit on the bottom and wait for suitable conditions for at least a year, all the while reproducing - so wet, low jellyfish abundance years really means that the next dry year will likely see a large bumper crop of them... |

Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Eagleman Triathlon : Official Thread Last year I think it was hovering around 79 or 80. I am going to have to crack out the speed suit this year. I did the course yesterday and Otis nice and smooth for the most part. The wind was not too bad except for one stretch by that farmers market around mile 11 or 12. Even the. Though I was able to push 250 watts and 22 mph quite easily. Considering how light I am and how weak my bike is, everyone else should be flying. I have one more hard week of training and then the rest ifmy coach is generous |
