Another vote for the challenges!  My team, the Mighty Moose, is gonna win April's so that has been super fun--almost everyone hit their goal and then some.  It's good to be accountable to more than just yourself, it does get you out on the road.

If you are looking for entertainment, I posted some pix of my race on Sunday.  http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/photos/photo-thumbnails.asp?albumid=8600

Please to enjoy.

Woot! I have inspires! I had always wondered what they were - now isn't that just sad? Well, wonder no more. Sorry if I took a bit to respond to the lovely inspire-ers. I think I have it all figured out now.

Much thanks!

Inspires are fun... it took me awhile to figure out you have to hit the "blog" button for the response to show up in the other person's inspires instead of my own inspires but I think it's a little clearer now that marma/ron added the "reply in ____'s blog" floating thingy.  Wow.  that makes no sense but you know what I mean... I think... maybe... nevermind .

I haven't done a challenge since December.  That one was great though, it really forced me to get my swimming in (not my favorite)!!  With all of you talking up the challenge, how could I not jump in?   So I signed up . . . I'm sure they love all of us last minute people jumping in . . . LOL!

I've really gotta get my training in . . . ummm . . . after this week!  So this challenge will definitely help!

The Challenges have been a GREAT motivator for me. Have been on a couple of teams with one of our Mentor Leaders (TinkerBeth aka. LastCall) She is the best with her inspires and notes to help get you going (of course she can pull out the cattle prod if necessary...don't let the hot legs and the pixie dust fool you

I'm from a running background and I need mucho motivation with getting in the pool. I love being in the water and was a Life Guard (about 100 years ago) I just have no endurance there. I know that time in the pool is all that is needed..it is frustrating to know that 50 yards into a pool session I am starting to suck wind even though I can go straight outside and bike 20-25 miles or run 6-8 without much problem. Oh well...this too shall pass.

I only use the cattle prod in the most extreme circumstances

I was there just to have fun and enjoy myself...that's why I do this sport...if I get carried away by the competition then I just get mad if I don't win or pass people or whatever.  I spent plenty of years as the "star player", so I have had the accolades.  Now, it's time to just enjoy.  Of course, I like to win and hope to win, but am not ever going to be mad if I don't win!  I had briderdt taking pix so I had to sort of be hammy anyway, right?  My true spaz-o-nality comes out during races, as most of my albums indicate.  Glad I can amuse.

The day it stops being fun is the day I have to walk (or slog) away .  I hear ya on all of that and it's a great attitude.

I'm another one who takes/took advantage of challenges to get my butt out there. I skipped this month though since I started a new job on April 1 and knew I wouldn't have time, plus I'm recoverying from PF. I did think about the May challenge, but my "official" training doesn't start until there are only 2 weeks left in May, so my numbers would be reeeeeally low, and it's kind of embarrassing.

What about our own group challenge?

OK-I have a non-tri related question.  I have the chance to adopt a 2-year old labradoodle (half lab, half poodle).  Crate trained, with all it's equipment....owners don't have time for it.  They are usually $2000 to purchase.  Last year I found a runaway one and fell head over heels for it in the hour it was with us until its owner retrieved it.  Anyway, randomly I was looking at Craigslist yesterday for a labradoodle (none there).  And tonight, my sister called me about this dog.  I can try it out for the weekend.

I've had dogs most of my life, but got rid of my child-aggressive lab when my oldest was 1, as I was constantly uptight about it.  I am a bit skittish still around kids/dogs, although I know dogs and kids can be pals.  We have an unfenced yard at this time, but a 'fenced' deck.  My boys are 2 1/2 and 5 and are gentle with animals.

Talk me into or out of it.  Either here or PM or inspire me, whichever means is fine.

Thanks!

Leslie

FWIW - I entered the challenge with low numbers last month due to my schedule, actually lots of folks did - so no worries there, but I understand

- a Manatee challenge sounds interesting though - what do you have in mind?

My goals wouldn't be any different than the May challenge - just double accountability

My own mentor group did an challenge a couple of months ago.  We each set goals for all three disciplines.  It was fun and definitely motivating!

Labradoodles are awesome dogs.  My best friend has one and, honestly, he is one of the smartest dogs I've ever known.  He's great with kids, loves to swim, run and play frisbee.  He's a big dog, and I like big dogs.  However, I would strongly recommend that you fence your yard (or invisibe fence it) as they do require a lot of exercise and you might not be able to walk/run him all the time.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your lab.  I have a huge lab and a smaller lab mix and I suspect my children could chew their ears off and they still wouldn't snap, though I am careful not to leave the little one alone with the dogs (not because I'm nervous about the dogs but because I don't want him to accidentally hurt the dogs... throw a toy, pull their tails, whatever).   I took this picture the other day... Exhibit C hanging out on top of Zeke, who follows Exhibit C wherever he goes... kids and dogs are a great combination but you obviously have to find the right dog for your family.  I think a labradoodle is a great choice!

1. LABRADOODLES

Yes, as Mila said ... great dogs. The question is, is THIS ONE a great dog? Is he just crate-trained, or fully basic-trained (reliably sits, downs, stays, comes when called, walks nicely on a leash--all of the above around distractions)? Also, how does he react around other dogs of various types? I would definitely take it for a weekend and see how he is. Although he might be a bit shy or unsure because he's in a new situation, he should still be friendly and well behaved.

2. CHALLENGES (BT)

I love 'em. Have been sometimes very, sometimes barely involved in my challenge groups, but have a straight 10-month streak going. I find them motivational and have met the most WONDERFUL people, many of them now in this group .

3. CHALLENGES (Manatee)

This came, I think, from a possible challenge between Erin (Fielding) and myself to do morning workouts (GAH!!! THE HORROR!!!) since we are both night owls. Then there was talk of extending the challenge to our fellow mentorees (manatees) to whatever area they felt they needed to work on most.

What think ye all of an intra-group Manatee challenge? I still need to get my azz out of bed in the mornings, particularly so when I am depressed (as I have been struggling lately) ... it sets a whole different, and good, tone for my day, it's just very hard to do and even more so when I feel like carp.

I know what you mean, Yanti! When I'm struggling with depression, it takes everything I have just to get myself out of bed in the morning, let alone trying to get up early to work out. I had been doing really well about getting up early and training in the mornings up until my "dark place" time last week. I really need to focus on that again.

I'm up for a Manatee challenge. Like Terri, my training plan for my tri will be starting up later on this month (May 18). Since I'm doing the Michael Pates 22-week plan, the distances will be pretty tiny initially.

I personally suck at challenges. For some reason whenver I "have" to do something, I don't do it. Don't ask, I'm sure it's some deep rooted issue that I've yet to tackle.....

Also, since I'm not really "cleared for take-off" by the PT's, I can't get commit to anything. I wouldn't want to get in over my head. I learned that lesson early this year by signing up for a race and then not being able to do it. My first and only DNS.

Once again though, I'd love to cheer you all on.

Why am I up? This time is usually reseved for Yanti......

1. You're up because you love me and you are stalking me and following me around. This does not mean you are allowed to love or stalk Mila any less.

2. If we have a Manatee challenge, and I feel one brewing, your challenge will be to post something positive ABOUT YOURSELF EVERY DAY as an example to the team (therefore giving us cheer--and you may cheer us on in any additional ways you like. Again--pics are always appreciated ).

3. I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
