Haha, I HATE HATE HATE the way I sound when I listen to a recording of myself.

My suggestion is to use a beater car so as not to fry the clutch.

Other than that - i've got nothing.

Generally unphotogenic.  Whenever I see pictures of myself I think: do I really look that bad?

Saw my first race photos recently (not first race, just first with photos), um can you say 'Yikes'?  But it's the same with most pictures.  I've learned to get over it (and frame it), if the photo has significant nostalgic value, but for the most part, I hide most of the photos of me I can find.

Oh, I look terrible in most race photos. I usually only get pictures of me running, and I'm usually making a weird face.

Let's play a game.   There's a very funny avatar currently in use.   In it, bathing suits are high overhead.  Can you find it before Mdaddy?  I saved a copy already.

It's a matter of simple audiodynamics.  You sound different to yourself because of the acoustics within your own body.  Just something you have to get used to.

That's why I only said "sometimes" It's about 50/50, maybe. I have some very cute candid shots of me, some not so cute. Plus, it helps when I am all made up and in Vera Wang

don't have a beater. he's learning in my baby and it may be the death of me. but i feel it is good for him to learn a manual first.

I know - but I wish I sounded to everyone else like I do to myself. I wonder if I sound squeaky and annoying to the rest of the world, because that's what I hear.

I don't get why people have an issue with race photos - you shouldn't look good.  You should be working your butt off and in some semblance of pain.  Good lord, your doing an event that 90% of the population won't even try.  Give yourself a little break.  You shouldn't look like you just jumped off of the runway or are walking the red carpet.

i don't need to look good enough to walk the red carpet, just good enough to frame or show people and them not look like they've seen something horrible.

it must be so hard for you to look so cute all the time.

I am pretty sure that you are being way too critical of yourseelf.

Maybe you shouldn't look good, but should you look like your about to kill somebody or you're about to die.  I don't expect to look like a runway model in my race photos (or ever really), but the constant 'about to vomit' look isn't really something I want in a 5x7. 

Exactly. I see lots of shots on here of people who look awesome racing. There are also plenty of folks who look silly/in pain, etc. I only have the latter, really. Except for my avatar shot, which you can't really see cuz it's small. But it's a cool pic.

Are there any really large parking lots nearby?  A flat one, preferably.  Go there first. 

Then when teaching, they are not allowed to use the gas.  At all.  Just get them used to the feel of the clutch engaging.  Do that over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and.... well, you get the picture.  Then when they are able to engage the clutch without throwing you through the windscreen, then have them start to play with the gas and the clutch together.

I taught my wife and her cousin that way.  On a Ford Ranger.  With the most wickedly tight clutch in the world.  Engagement zone on that thing was about a centimeter.  They can drive anything with a clutch now.
