Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have IMKY in 28 days and have been dealing with a strees fracture in my foot, finally started running again on Monday. Most of these running hours are water-running and have been hiking and walking to help the foot along. Injury sucks.

New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just finished the Vineman full iron. See you guys in November in AZ! 11:59:40 overall (beat my soft goal of sub 12, by just a hair!) 107/683 overall place. 31/114 in M35-39 Very Happy! Bike was 5:43:45, so I hammered on the bike. Swim sucked, and run sucked worse, but I did it. First IM. Got to work on my run! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() IMAZ peeps-- I am not racing IMAZ (I'll be in full recovery mode from IMFL!), but I am coming to cheer on friends. BTers- Myself, KathyG (also cheering/volunteering), and Dave699 (racing) and MrsSapper (his wife) have found a place we're going to put a lease on tomorrow. It's located in Tempe less than 4 miles directly due south from the race site. We're looking for some additional housemates to make the cost more affordable. So, if there are 2-3 (gotta keep it somewhat comfy!) of you that are needing a place, let me know. Some notes: - Not a party type house, sorry..Dave will be in race prep mode. - We'll have the place from Thurs-Wed (7 days total--required week rental), but would prefer at least a 4 day stay for financial fairness - If we get 6 people, we're looking at around $170 for the whole the time - There are only two queen beds, one of those already claimed by Dave...if there is another couple, we can get you that bed. Otherwise, there are couches and additional rooms, and a friendly, local BT'er has offered blow up mattresses for our use. There will be more than enough room for that. - There is a pool, spa, den, living room, full kitchen, etc. If you're interested, want more details, etc. Send me a PM that includes your email address and I can work it with you. Good luck to you as you train! Looking forward to becoming hoarse cheering for y'all! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ^^^Slight edit to above. Lady fell through on the deal, but we're still getting a place, and this one (fingers crossed it goes through) has 2 queen beds and two double beds...so there shouldn't be a need for blow up mattresses. Let me know if you're interested! It's slightly farther from the race site, but still within 10 minutes. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ive had like the better part of 3 weeks with no activity due to herniated disc from a bike crash. was really getting freaked out due to the sciatic involvement and shooting unrelenting pain. today i was able to swim for the first time in near 3 weeks. it was 2000 yards with a pool buoy. im thinking ive got 3 weeks to see some improvement or IMAZ becomes a question mark. today however gives me hope! |

My totals. Happy with the month as I took almost the first week of July off as a rest period before starting the 20 wk program. All is well so far, going to start increasing the bike times this month. |

So sorry to hear that...also injured here. I injured my ankle on June 7th and it's still not 100%. Feel like I am running out of time. However I have been able to bike and swim. I hope that you are able to start up training soon. I looked at some of the 12 and 13 weeks plans, gives me hope that it can still be done even with some down time |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was nursing an achilles injury but, by just working on the stuff I could do (bike and swim) I think I have recovered and I am going to be okay. I have the run back up to 6-7 miles 3X a week and will be fine by race day. Today was however, not a good day. At mile 28 of my ride I got hit by a car who just took off after the accident. Nothing broken but road rash, facial injuries, and a very sore back and shoulders. First thing I thought was, there goes my race. Then I realized I should get off the road. Next concern was how's my bike. This sport does weird things to your priorities. I should be back on the road in a week. Good luck with your training! |

![]() ![]() |
Regular![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks all! It happened in Livermore on what is a very bike friendly rode. I'm pretty sore today. It feels like... well... I've been hit by a car. It was actually a blue-ish green minivan. What really gets me angry is that after the accident, the guy slowed down, yelled something, and then sped off. What a jerk. What kind of person could leave someone on the road covered in blood? Anyway, my face is really messed up but should recover with just a few scars, 14 stitches. My back and neck are really stiff and sore. It may be a while before I'm back to training. A week might be a bit optimistic but that is my goal. I am already bored laying around the house. Do a few miles for me out there today. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That is crazy. I happen to be a police officer and nothing makes me happier than catching people that do stuff like that. It happens way more often than you would think. Hope you heal quickly and get back to it as soon as possible. I they dont get caught I know for sure that Karma is a bitc@ and they'll get theirs soon enough. Not that I'd wish anything bad on anyone but come on, who leaves a person in the middle of the road. To me that is about as low as it goes. Again, heal quick we need everyday we can get about now. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jmac - 2009-07-12 3:17 PM Does anyone know if the bike course is rideable. I will be in Phoenix for a wedding in October, and if I can ride the course I will bring my bike. It looks like there is no problem on the map, but I saw somewhere that part of it is on an Indian resevation. By the way one easy week down and 19 harder ones to go--- Thanks in advance for any information on the ride May I offer up that there is a section of the course before you hit the reservation that is four lanes with NO SHOULDER and has lots of fast trucks and traffic on it. Scared the crap out of me when I tried to pre-ride the course a few months before the race. Drive the first part of the course to see it then ride your bike on the Beeline. Riding the part in/around Tempe is just too dangerous. Watch out for road debris on the beeline...bring plenty of spare tubes. The run course on the other hand is quite easy to pre-run. But bring the map/directions with you and refer to them often. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() A question to all: Ever since I started training for IMAZ, actually since I signed up, my wife has been boycotting my sessions, getting mad at me for leaving to train or taking little "vendettas" like ignoring me if I spend three or four hours outside the house, getting ready for this endeavour. I feel undertrained and I'm even doubting I'll be able to cross the line, even if I take it very easy and go super aerobic. Any suggestions? This is my childhood dream, I saw Julie Moss crawling to that finish line and I remember thinking "I gotta do that race" back in 1984. Am I being selfish for pursuing a personal dream? She says that she supports me but her attitude is sending a very negative message. I only have 14 weeks to go and I'm not even logging 6 hours average a week. Would anybody mind looking at my log and telling me if I'll make it? Thanks, Ernest, the desperate. ![]() |

Member ![]() | ![]() Good luck to you. I think it is all about communication and support. Have you tried posting your weekly schedule on the refrigerator ann involving your wife in the schedule, don't worry about sticking to the absolute program, be flexible. Also show gratitude and make sure your wife has time to do her own thing. I envolved my wife and family in my workouts, so that they are part of the process. Examples, riding my bike to family events that my wife and kids drive to, meeting them at distant locations like the beach, hanging out with them for a few hours and then running home, be creative so you can multi task your workouts with life. I also use my commute to workout occasionally. After 2 ironman races my wife caught the bug and will be doing IMCDA next year, while I watch and support her. Mostly have fun with your juorney. See you in Tempe |
