So this will be my first IM and I am really starting to feel the impending doom that will be June. I live in Charlotte so its starting to get hot, muggy and worst of all - boat season. I've done 2 halves this year and stuck to the majority of my training plan but I am still freaking out. I know i dont have logs on here but my longest bike has been 80 miles and run is up to 15 or so.

How do you guys calm yourself down? Right now i either feel like I am going to be absolutely miserable for the next 2 months or I am goign to miss too many workouts and LP will be disaster.

Give it up, either way you are starting and finishing Ironman Lake Placid, and you will be an Ironman.  You are doing great so far.  I've seen people do these things with less than what you have so far, as their max.

Just get to the starting line and the rest is autopilot.

Don't take that as an excuse to slack, just saying that you are ok.

How's everyone doing?  I've only been on the BT training program for about 6 weeks but have been training in Michigan quite a bit before that.

What is everyone doing for a race before LP?  70.3?  Olympic?  Sprint?

I feel strong and my training is going great.  I'm just not sure if I should run out and do a half or whether I should just do a couple of sprints/oly distance races to get everything worked out but not put me out of training for a couple of days.

Suggestions?

Hi Gang,

I did Lake Placid last year and put together a little video of our journey.

Much of it is home video footage, and shaky cam, but it shows off quite a bit of Lake Placid and the Ironman.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3W0ZaeS6io

It's broken into two parts because of the length.

Hope you enjoy, we're headed to Louisville this year.

Tom

Awesome video Tom.  That’s so cool your family is so involved.  Thanks for sharing and good luck at Louisville.

Hey everyone,

I'll be heading to LP on Wed June 10 for a 4 day training camp with 40+ athletes, 4 coaches (I am one of them) and other cool stuff. Anyway, If any BTer is going to be up there that weekend let me know to say hello at some point. The camp doesn't officially start until Friday afternoon hence I'll be doing training on Thurs and Fri AM; if you around and want to get together or go climb up Whiteface mtn, let me know!

I will be arriving Thursday evening late with my family. I was hoping to drop my road bike off at a LP shop and than take a swim on Friday. I am always open for a beer.

We have a two room mini suite at Hungry Trout reserved for the long weekend of Ironman Lake Placid but we are going to cancel our reservations as I'm doing IM Canada instead this summer. Before I called I wondered if anyone would be interested in the room. Motel is on the bike course about 10-13 miles out of Lake Placid on the climb up Whiteface.

One room has double bed, single bed and a bathroom off it; other room as queen bed, partial kitchen no oven, table. Rate is $200/night.

This is a humble 1950s type motel.

PM if you might be interested otherwise I'm calling and canceling in next few days.

My friggin nerves have my stomach doing somersaults every time I think about the race. If I can make it to the start line without yacking my brains out, it will be a miracle!

My training is solid and right on track.  Training in LP w/ Jorge last weekend was a blast and a huge confidence builder.  I did exactly what he told me to do and 112 + a 4 mile transition run went great!  Still need to dial in my nutrition.  I am so excited I wish the race was this weekend!!!!  Ready to rock!

I was late to get in my first long ride of 96 miles (5hrs) in this past Sunday, other than that I have multiple 70-80 mile days. Runs are constant at 15-17 miles. Most all of my training for long stuff has been below what I originally wanted, but I feel fast averaging 2+mph faster at my last 60mile TT than I ever have done before (and I can honestly say I held back the first 10-15miles. And my run and swim times have held steady at below my desired race pace for all distances I complete.

Scheduled to get in two 100+ mile rides and one 20+mile run in at the beginning of July before taper.

Tupper Lake Tinman coming up on the 27th. Hope to hear from/see everyone soon! Good luck!

Heading up to LP tomorrow for a training weekend. Looks like I'll be wearing the wetsuit for the bike and run as well. this weather sucks! At least it's not last year's race.

Don't know if it's the rain or what, but motivation has been down this week. Last week was a nice monster week - 18 hrs of training which somehow snuck up on me.

I had over 19.5 the prior week going into a recovery week that lasted into this week.  I got to pull the stops out of this one b/c my bike is really down.  Overall I feel good and have gotten three or four 100+ mile rides in and several 80+ milers.  My long run has really improved but nothing over 18 miles yet.  I am very comfortable with my swim.  I will most likely put the brakes on the swim for the race as to not cook myself.

Maybe too early for my LP goals but this is what I am thinking.  If I have a (PennState) good day here I come Kona.

Swim 1:05
T1 :05
Bike 5:45
T2 :05
Run 3:55

Most of my training rides are hills.  I thought you all would get a kick out this 100 mile ride profile I have done a couple of times.

Not sure if it's been posted anywhere yet but they've completed some road repaving up in LP.  Was up there this past weekend and enjoyed some very new/fresh pavement (repaved on the 17th-19th) on the Cascade Lake/Pass section which had been previously chewed up pretty bad.   This section is now very smooth and fast!  Sections of the out and back have been patched as well.  A few small areas that they need to finish (transitions between old/new pavement) but otherwise looks to be a welcome fix to the roads.

Anybody planning a visit up to LP in the next few weeks?
I'm debating it, but not sure.

Highly recommended. Even if you drive up solo, there are tons of people out on the course.

Was up there this past weekend for some great training. Predicted rain actually held off until my last half hour of the long run on Sunday.

I still want to know, how do they make those hills bigger on the second loop??

As much as I would love to I just can't make it happen. I was glad to hear about the recent road work. I hope it was done on the long downhill to Keene. Dodging those potholes at 51 mph in the rain was not fun a few weeks ago!
