Yes, I concur.

It left a funny after taste I thought...maybe that was the mango...

I think I am just going to have to suck it up...

Had my first taste of orange mango today after my run.  I didn't think it was that bad.  Liked it better than lemon lime citromax.  My bottles are 20oz., the serving info on the back is for 8oz.  Maybe that was the confusion about bottle size.

SOOO great you could join us.  I think he's planning another one before race day, but it's the same weekend as Pleasant Prairie so I can't do it.

Very nice to see you!!

Tried the Orange Mango on my ride this weekend.  I liked the taste, but I think the excess sodium gave me heartburn! Will use it sparingly on the run course if I need it.

For all of you veteran Racine HIM'ers... can you share some knowledge about the swim?  What is the course like?  I've heard it seems short, but I'm also interested in direction.  Do you swim from North to South?

Any info/guidance you can provide is greatly appreciated!

A) The last 2 years, it's been COLD COLD COLD!

B) It's a C shape...you start on the beach, you swim out to the first buoy, turn right swim south parallel to the beach alllll the way down to last buoy, turn right and swim into the beach

When you get to the beach, you have a longish run up to transition...think they usually have bins to rinse your feet off when you get back to the parking lot (transition).

Hope this helps!

They originally had us swim in a counter clockwise rectangle beginning and ending at transition...this was in 2004 if my memory does not fail me.  Then they changed it to point to point (as described above) and it has been that way ever since.

It appears that WTC will not change it back to the original swim course but keep it point to point.

Personally, I prefer it not to be point to point, but the walk to the swim start isn't that bad as you can catch up with old friends on the way to the start.

This portion of Lake Michigan in July historically has been sub 65 deg (first year was 56...although they reported it to be 58 I think just to get the go ahead to start...ha ha ha) and typically 1-2 foot swells, with 3 foot swells not uncommon.

Course has been short in the past few years because of the last buoy drifting into shore due to waves/current.

If you're not accustomed to deep/black cold water swims just get in the lake a few times (and not Ohio street beach...go to montrose harbor for example) beforehand and you'll be just fine.

Keep the cold water out of the ears, I go ear plugs and double cap. Did a practice swim without and got out quite dizzy.

The walk out to the start is a good chance to get your feet wet and get the use to the water temp, not deep enough to work your legs, just deep enough to get the toes wet.

^Great advice.  Walking the beach with my feet in the water helped immensely.

Thanks for the feedback!  Can you also explain the start?  How are the start waves setup (assuming it's done in waves)?

cold enough to get your attention once your feet hit it , but after 20-30 seconds you didn't notice it. The drips of water through the back zipper again got your attention , but nothing terrible. Face felt fine after 10-15 seconds. After 15-20 minutes I wouldn't want it any warmer than it was. I swam in a full wetsuit, ear plugs and single cap

The lady I swim with wears a sleeveless suit that stops at the knees and she had no complaints.

Her opinion was "it was warmer than any other time last year".

Water wasn't too bad! Used my full suit, a silicone cap and a latex one over it. would have been good with just 1 cap. face was a bit cold to start but then felt great! My friend was just in with her tri suit, but she wasn't swimming. (had to watch our bikes) The ride was hot and had to cut it short by 16 miles due to the storms, had to walk the bikes to a church and held up under their entrance till a friend came and got us! Good times though! Would like to get out there at least 2 more times.
