Hey guys and gals,So I signed up about two months ago And just found this thread... This will be my first IM and looking forward to it... I have been a cyclist for 14 years so this will be a great challenge.. I played water pollo in high school and just recently swam 2 miles in 1 hour flat so I'm happy about that but just nervous about the run... I'm using the be iron fit competitive program and it starts next week. Looking forward to the whole process and signed up for the Oceanside 70.3 on march 31st that's part of the program...Look forward to following this thread....KevinLive in southern California

Does anyone have any information on hotel availability?  It seems like the host hotel plus the ones nearby are not available online.  Any thoughts?

I would call or just wait another month or two.  How close do you want to be?  If you are worries I would just book a room then keep trying at closer hotels.  I do not know the hotel bussiness, but i would think they would only release a portion of rooms until x months out to get a feel then release the rest with different rates.  Pleanty of places to stay in the area and it is very easy to get parked on race day.

I've been keeping on eye on this and have called several places.  Looks like they don't intend to release rooms and rates till 1 January.

So are the close hotels all doing this too?  I have called a couple and been watching online and some have gone back and forth on availability

Hello guys,

I'm also happy to have found this thread!  For me this has been a year of first experiences: my first 1/2 marathon, my first triathlons (from Sprint through a 1/2 IM), my first Mary (Chicago a week ago) and just signed up for IM Texas a couple of days ago.   I look forward to meeting other BT members and learning from everyone's experience and advice!  Gabriel

I rode part of the course this weekend, and the section on FM 149 between Montgomery and Ricards is now miserable to ride on. The road's been resurfaced with a really rough chip seal. It's some of the worst I've ever riden on. Hopefully they're not done with it, but it looked pretty finished. They'd painted centerlines and shoulders. Almost every other rider I saw out there had a look of disbelief on their face!

is there any chance they would move the route to better roads?  if not what adjustments do we need to make to our bike to deal with the rough finish?

Make sure all your bolts are tightened.  One of the main roads at IMOZ was horrible, to the point where the bolts from my X-lab came off and they were tight and had lock-tight stuff on them.  Luckily the main bolts held and I didn't find out about the missing bolts until I started to pack my bike back up.

So, much like that stretch on Jackson Rd prior to 1488 on the way back in That was freshly chip sealed last year?

That stretch on 149 that you are referring to is about 25-30 miles total if I remember correctly?

Suck!

I know I have done Steelhead 70.3 with about 10 miles of chip and seal before and REV 3 Cedar Point had a good 20 miles of it. I know I was ready for  a new back when I was finished. Frown
