kansas provided lemon/lime and orange on both the bike and run. I'm not sure what flavors Racine had last year. sorry!

If my memory is correct, I'm almost positive I got Lemon Lime last year.  I LOVED the orange slices on the run last year. That was a nice pick-me-up.

Does anyone have good tips for spectators? Where is the best places for my family to go during the bike and run? Is there shade or is spectating mostly in the sun?

Doxie,

This is a great venue for spectators. There's a shaded park with benches just outside of transition. So family can watch you come/go on the bike and the run. Since the run is a double-loop, they'll see you a couple of time. And it's right by the beach. So if it's warm, they can take a dip in Lake Michigan while waiting for you. Some of the spectators will pitch tents to keep themselves comfy for the day.

Thanks for the flavor update.  I've been using Lemon lime during training, so that is good.  Can't seem to find another flavor in the powder, either, anyway.  So hopefully they'll have lemon lime on both the bike and the run at Racine, too.

Thought of another question - is there a place on the side of transition or a designated bag drop area once you're done setting up at your rack?  I don't want to crowd my space or take up someone else's with my empty bag.  I've read where at full IM's they give you a separate bag each for s/b/r - but I don't think 70.3's are like this?  It's bring all your stuff in your own bag, right?

Thanks again for all the tips and information!

yeah...it'd brings your stuff in your own bag. Technically, there isn't a 'bag drop' area in transition. Gordon_mom and I have just left our stuff by the fence on the outside of transition. I suppose there's always a risk of someone pulling a grab and go with your stuff. Or maybe someone has looked at my bag and said 'what a bunch of junk'. HA!

Hoping that we have the opportunity to meet all the BT'er's doing the race!

Do they do any sort of road patching prior to the race?

I rode it this morning as a training ride and would have preferred beating myself in the groin for 2.5 hours instead.  I bonked big time at about mile 40 (stupid me... didn't bring enough nom noms), but once my head figures out that I'm okay again, I'll try to post which roads are pretty rough.  There were definitely a few places where you'll want to put on your seatbelt and lockdown any behind the saddle hydration systems.

Lots of exposed country roads.. the wind makes it even more exciting.  Hopefully it won't be as bad as it was this morning (there was a storm blowing through).

Anybody know of any construction in the area and how it might affect getting to the race?

I found this item on WI-DOT.

www.511wi.gov

It looks like it's Washington Ave which could affect anyone coming in from the various hotels down that road.

It took a couple weeks after last years race to get that "duh dunk, duh dunk, duh dunk, duh dunk" sound out of my head -haha.  Good call on securing your hydration bottles.  Racine is the only race I have ever done that I had to re-secure my aerobottle mid-race since it worked its way loose towards the end of the ride.

I rode the course this morning and there will be no new construction repair between now and the race. This is the way the course runs. There are a couple parts worse than others. Gotta make sure your weight is on the pedals and you pick a good line.

Ok, so I'm a fairly good swimmer.  Not great, but usually top 10-20% out of the water in Sprints and Oly's.  I've also swam at Racine back before it was WTC in the Sprit of Racine Sprint, so I know what to expect in the water.

What I'm intrigued with is 1) will there be wetsuit strippers and 2) are they worth it?  I ask because I really also don't have any issues getting out of my wetsuit.

Just curious.  Never had that option provided so don't know if it is worth it or not.

last year Racine had wetsuit strippers. They were very much worth the time! One (very small drawback)....some sand sticks to your back and comes along on the bike.

Wow - I don't remember wetsuit strippers at all last year.  I was in the 35-39 wave which was the second to last at 8:40am so I wonder if they were all gone by the time I exited?  I guess its all personal preference unless you have major issues getting the wetsuit off - your only talking about seconds during a 5+ hour day.  I would say if its there I would probably use it though.

This race starts at 7a? I was assuming my wave would go off by 8a, but guess that is not the case.

Less than 4 weeks! How is training going for everyone? How long of a taper are you going to take?

if anyone wants to ride after the swim let me know, im really looking for another female to ride with the girl i went to school with. probably around 16 mph. if theres any guys that wanna ride i'll probably go out and try to push 19-20 depending on conditions.

We are riding early and doing part of the route (Hwy 20 West) starting about 7-7:30.  Traffic on some of these smaller county roads with not much shoulder gets a little sketchy on the weekends so we get out there early.  Were planning on heading to do the swim after.  To avoid the heat of the day if you earlier works for you guys please don't let our time mess up your plans.  We can swim next weekend too I still think someone was trying to organize the full route next  Saturday too.  Lake looks like it's going to be perfect this weekend- high 60's!

Last year the wetsuit strippers were hiding in the corner with the sunscreen applicators!  When you came into T1 they were off to the right in the shade so it was tough to see them.  I was out on the bike and kept seeing people with this skunk stripe of sand up their backs and I had no idea what it was from until I was told about the strippers.  Ok you know what I mean!  Keep an eye out when you come down the final shoot into T1 if you are interested and they have them this year.

I keep forgetting to come and let you you guys know that I won't be doing Racine this year. I was all set for a big redo, but life got in the way and I missed almost 6 weeks of training in March-April, and just didn't want to wing it on a race of this magnitude. After last year, going back and conquering the course was a big thing for me, so I was mentally and emotionally invested in the race (even though I hadn't signed up at the time yet), so I had to do some soul searching... but in the end, I decided I did still really want to do a Half-Iron distance, but decided on Steelhead instead. Next year, Racine for sure.

Best of luck to all of you and I hope it's a fantastic race day for everyone!!!!

Good luck in Michigan Lena!  Have you done Steelhead before?  Considering that one next year too so please let me know what you thought compared to Racine.  Good luck!

Sounds good!  Be safe out on the roads and hopefully we'll see you Saturday.  The lake should be perfect for sleeveless wetsuits!

I'm hoping the guy that had posted about organizing the ride for the 30th can give an update??

Wish I could make it up there for some of these training sessions - it would be great to get on the course.  But alas my weekends are booked solid until the race.  I've seen some of the tips and advice you all have posted - anything else to offer after your coming rides/swims is always appreciated.

Wave question - I see last time the M35-39 wave seemed quite late, which is kind of surprising to this newbie.  I'm in the M30-34 wave - anyone know what time (approx.) that one went off last year?

Men 30 - 34 are in waves 20 and 21 (8:02 and 8:05) depending on last name.
