I'm hoping to do some volunteering for all of you in 13', so I'll see you on the course. My brother (Flyboy), is my inspiration, personal guide and mentor for CdA as I began building for my first IM. Hope you don't mind if I sneak in here once in a while to see how things are going! That's what I did last year, lurked around here and learned a lot of valuable stuff. Also was inspired by your brother - followed his journey to this year's IMCDA and got lots of support from him for the HIM that I did. |

On a different note, is anyone else struggling with motivation? I have barely been working out although, this morning I was at the Y at 5am swimming laps. I wouldn't been there if a buddy hadn't said he was going to be there. I can't seem to shake my funk, any ideas? |

Watched the 2nd one in the tent this year but it's good to have it also. I will keep plugging away. On the plus side, I am able to swim further than last year at this time, due to not getting randomly sick in the water like I was. Still need find some more drive. |

I am a big proponent of visualization and always visualize 2 things before EVERY hard training session. 1) I visualize the last mile coming into the finishing shoot knowing I had reached my goal. I have a VERY strong memory of what this is like when you hit your goal and it is a huge motivator for me. 2) I visualize what it would be like not hitting my goal. In other words, FEAR. I can't bear the thought of having friends and family know what my goal is and not hit it due to lack of preparation. Things will happen during the race and I can live with that, but I cannot let lack of preparation be the reason I didn't hit my goal. |

John, if it was a run, what time would you be thinking? I could be available after probably 10-1030 after picking up my son from WSU.

Extreme Veteran 473 Chelsea, MI | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread That is a long drive to quit or fail so that is all the motivation I need to get in the half assed training I'm doing right now. I'm just throwing it out there, but I still hate the pool. Also if you are lacking motivation don't worry the world will end next week anyway. |

8 more degrees and that is typical June swim temps around here. Perhaps I should look into a sleeveless wetsuit

Since it's been a pretty warm fall so far, the lake temp is still a pretty balmy 44 degrees! And look how calm it is... I took this pic a couple of hours ago from a Christmas cruise boat, right in the middle of the swim course (ignore the UFO's, and it was snowing so the temp might drop a little). I did the lesser version of IM Boise 70.3 and the full IM 70.3 Boulder this last season. Anything comparable as far as the courses? |

Anything comparable as far as the courses? Swim, bike, and run lots! I don't know anything about the Boise or Boulder courses but for this one, ride a lot of hills. Preferably long, 2+ mile climbs. Good luck with your training. Edited by Flyboy 2012-12-16 10:59 AM |

The water will be comparable as I did Boise this year and I was swimming in CDA before Boise. The run I believe is more hilly than Boise. Well yes it is definitely because the only hills on the Boise run course was going under the main roads. As to the bike course I haven't driven the course at all but I do recall from years past when i have driven the road is that it has a couple of good hills that you want to prepare for. Where I live I have lots of hills that I have to deal with just to go for a ride. Now as to the swim start weather, I have not seen CDA that nasty in the 3 years I have watched the start. Now watch it will be super nasty this coming year. |

It will be my first IM also along with many other people I bet. Enjoy the training and from what I read (last year as I lurked on this group) listen to Flyboy. He has great advice and has offered to give guided tours of the bike course when we get there in June....(I read he did that last year so I figured it wouldn't hurt to kind of ask) |

New user 12 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Thank you all for the great input! Crossing my fingers for anything better (weather wise) than Boise last June. I don't mind the cold water too much as long as it's dry when I get out of the lake (still crossing fingers). Also planning on hitting the hills for the bike and run quite a bit before Cd'A takes place. Hopefully I'll be prepared! |

They suck big time but I trained a lot of hills this last year and when I did Lake Stevens on a whim because of the crap weather for Boise, it paid off for me big time as I rode about 15 minutes faster than I actually expected to ride. The hills at Lake Stevens weren't nearly as bad as I thought they were going be after driving the course the day before. Just pray for no wind from 7am till 9am . That should get you out of the water and on the bike by then. But I guess wind could pop up about 8am to blow you back towards shore . |

When we get close to race time I'll post about it again and anyone interested can join in. It's one of the highlights of Ironman week for me, getting to meet a bunch of cool people from all over the U.S. so definitely planning to keep doing it. |
