I thought you wanted to loose weight? Cake makes you a fatty and no one likes fatties. Can you call me in the morning when I don't want to get up to work out and tell me that being lazy makes me fat? I could use some of that motivation Yes, What time? I'm up by 4:15. |

So what was it? A relay? TXV? Condenser fan motor seized! Did you see that Dateline where they rigged up a woman with a "broken" a/c unit? Called in 6 different companies to diagnose and fix the problem, which was a $200 max fix. EVERY SINGLE ONE of them made up extra stuff that needed to be cleaned or fixed - charging anywhere from $500-1200. It made me sick. Usually there is at least one good guy so you can say "See? there are still good guys are there" but not this time. 100% of them were scammers to some degree.
Did they "control" their experiment against having a man ask for the quotes? I'd be interested to see that. I used to bring co-workers car shopping with me just to avoid the salesman scamming the woman thing. I have a "guy" that I trust and was personally recommended. His rates go up when it gets much hotter. He has already quoted me what it will cost to replace my AC in March and what it will cost if it dies in the middle of July....The parts are the same and the labor triples. Smart business, supply and demand and all... |

I saw that one too. It's hard when you are a single women trying to get home improvement stuff done. That's why I only use companies that come recommended from close friends and my HOA puts out a list with reputable companies that have done a LOT of work in my townhouse community. They don't gouge you because they like getting the referral work and sometimes even give a discount because they do so much volume and are very familiar with the construction and common problems with the aging homes. I did a quick search on the fix for this problem and the price is right in line with what he told me for my type of older, off brand unit. Did they say the cleaning part was needed to fix the problem or just that it needs to be cleaned in general? There is a big difference and what people complain about with any kind of service industry. If they lead the person to think it will fix the problem that is wrong but in reality most things always have something that could be done for maintenance. . |

The guy told me I was low so he topped it off for me for $30. Also....the mechanic said that all my fuses were older than 2007 so the government was making them switch them all out...and if I was caught with old fuses, it was automatic jail time. Glad he told me..... |

That goes for the service industry all the way to the government. |

I'm so glad my next door neighbor is an a/c-furnace technician. Saved me tons of money (4-5 repairs either free or at cost of part), and he gave me his friends and family discount last year for entire new units, which he personally installed. Also....the mechanic said that all my fuses were older than 2007 so the government was making them switch them all out...and if I was caught with old fuses, it was automatic jail time. Glad he told me..... . I was told that my tires were separating. After a little research, unless I got a bad batch of tires, or I was horrible at keeping them inflated (which I'm not), it wasn't likely. I went to a place called Big O Tires. Told them I thought the other place was trying to screw me over. Said I wasn't interested in what they had to say. They showed me evidence of a bad strut - actual evidence. Showed me the wear on my tire versus model tires that they have on display showing common problems. They also told me that aside from a not-so-smooth ride and some funny tire wear patterns (and quicker wear because of it), it wasn't anything terrible to keep driving on. Rotated my tires to minimize the vibration - for free - and told me to come back and they'd verify the problem and replace my awkwardly worn tire and likely, my bad shock. They won a customer for treating me like an intelligent human being. |

I'd LOVE to be able to do that, but I'm actually at a friend's house waiting for HER furniture delivery while she's on a plane to go to a wedding or something silly like that, and I have NO idea what company it is that's doing the delivery. Sadly, I just have to sit and wait. |
