So, after removal of the stones has her weight dropped to 4 lbs?! I think I own 3 cones of shame - which should tell you how often my dog does something stupid requiring emergency surgery!

definitely need the solo cup pics

I found out this morning after I posted the above that the stones were each 7-8 mm (they're usually 1 mm or so), so yes, she's definitely going to drop some weight.  They're going to send the stones out for analysis and we'll change her diet accordingly.

We have several cones of shame too but they're all for 60 lb. dogs.  The vet said she hasn't bothered her incision at all so she probably won't need one. I don't think we'll try a solo cup on her, much as I'd like to.  She's been such a good sport about the whole thing (the vet techs love her because she's so sweet) and been through so much.  It's awfully funny to think about though.  Her expression would be priceless!

Thanks for your support, everybody.  This group rocks.

Weeeel, I tried something new. "Running" while Mak rode her bike. Fail.
She's been begging to ride, and it's getting hotter earlier in the day...so I thought two birds with one stone. Morning run/ride,  right?
Speaking of birds..."Mom! See that bird over der? It just flewwww...(crashing bike into rocks)" So three crashes, multiple water stops, a park break and bruised left ankle later, we made it home. I ran forwards, backwards, in place and in circles. Don't think GPS accounted for any of that. I'm just glad she didn't take off after any jack rabbits.

Soooo, now to play catch up...

Sounds pretty frustrating!  Glad there was no permanent damage.  Chasing jackrabbits might be good practice for adventure racing, but probably not the sort of training you'd want for a tri.

Got up early and got on my bike and rode. Rode up into Tennessee and back. Meandered enough so when I got back I had ridden Just over 40 miles. It was sunshine and 70's. The pollen count made it a bit less enjoyable that it could have been. I waved at the farmers and did sprint work with their dogs.... Showered and hydrated and napped. It is time to throw some potatoes on the oven in atticipation of firing up the grill in a couple of hours. Have fruit and wine and will mix up a pitcher of sangria. Will take the kayak later to watch the sun set over Whewler Dam.

Winter's over, man. We won......

Ok so I know I'm the only one that gets totally humbled every once in a while right??

My plan today was for a nice open water swim today followed by a 80 mile ride at ironman effort. Well I bit off more than I should. I'm not fully recovered from my 70.3 yet. 60 miles into the ride I started cramping bad. 66 miles in couldn't go any further. Legs are toast. I'm now sitting on the side of the road waiting on my training partner to finish the ride and come get me.

Very humbled. I knew yesterday on my run I wasn't recovered yet. Lesson learned. Respect the 70.3 distance

Sounds like an absolutely wonderful day!!  Winter and Spring are still battling it out here.  It's 70's today, mid-30s and snow all day tomorrow, warm again on Monday.  I'm going to ride on the trainer tomorrow instead of taking a sloppy run through the snow.

Ugh.  That sounds miserable.  Don't be too hard on yourself, though.  At least you made it more than 3/4 of the way through the ride.

As you all know I recently got back to running and slowly back to my tri training and "stuff". So far this deployment my cigar smoking was crazy, several days I was smoking 2-6 cigars a day to help deal with things. Since I started getting back to my training my cigar smoking and stress level has greatly reduced. The actual level of stupid and stress here is the same, but running/working out is by far a better way to deal with the stupid.

Hopefully as the heat increases I can keep the motivation up and keep going so I can keep dealing with the stupid in better ways. Plus, my body hurts less from flying, now just muscle soreness from working out.

Thanks for the motivation and accountability.

9.4mi hike/run this morning. It was so great to be out again, especially because the clock is ticking on our good weather. Two kinds of beauty in the desert. I would've liked more time with both.

The cacti are in bloom! And I had my first rattlesnake surprise. He crawled up to the cave after he made me jump off the trail.

Sounds like an awesome morning!  I still have a scar on my ankle from doing the same last year, but it was worth it.

No running for me the last week - bum knee.  Seeing doc tomorrow.  Been able to swim the last few days and rode yesterday, for the first time in a week.  Hopefully it's not surgical… fingers crossed (or my race season will have turned into a boating and fishing season - still would be fun, but to put in the volume for racing and have it become a dream deferred would kinda sting for a couple hours).

Hope the racers are out there TEARING IT UP as I type this.  RR or it didn't happen.

Matt

Hopefully, the ability to swim and bike bodes well for the diagnosis!

Okay, one last post.  Thanks for all the birthday wishes, everybody.  It's been a great weekend:  90 min. "relaxation" massage, swim and lunch with a dear friend, totally decadent dinner with my DH, 60 min. sports massage on my shoulders, and a Garmin 310xt in the mail from another BT'er.  Yay!!

Thought I would share a picture of the backdrop I get to see most days. This is a picture of the Tora Bora mountains here in the Nangahar Province in Afghanistan. Some days they make there own weather and are cloud covered, but they are beautiful when in full view.

Wow, Jonathan, those mountains are gorgeous!  They look very similar to the Colorado Rockies but look like they jut up quicker without the Front Range foothills we have here.  Looks like there could be amazing skiing there.  I'm guessing that with the many years of war and political instability in the region, people are more focused on just surviving and rebuilding basic infrastructure than they are on expensive sports like skiing, but that could be a really naive assumption on my part.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
