ha ha... I am secretly aiming to Naperville one in October... thanks for reading my mind
I was planning to fight that beast next year, but i actually liked half-marathon experience (I can't believe I said that...). Triathlon is my priority, so once I'm done with Chicago Tri in August, I will try to focus on running training towards October full course. I already checked the Higdon's beginner plan and I will be very close to what he has scheduled for the last 1.5 month. In the meantime (now to September) I will be working on the strong running base anyway. So we shall see
It would be exciting.

A friend just talked to my mom on the course.  She said the achilles is, indeed, acting up and she's been walking a lot.  I feel bad for her, she ran about 4 flat to qualify

That's too bad.  Hopefully she can just enjoy the day, the crowd, the atmosphere.

I see... I hope she will be able to finish AND that she will not get injured. How much more does she have?

Guessing about 5k left.  She's really an exceptional runner for her age (65) - I am bummed that she couldn't go full throttle today.  But she's pretty smart about injuries so I'm sure she'll manage it.

The running aspect of an Ironman triathlon is a marathon. Most people take on a marathon as a single event and the training for this uses up a lot of their time. Here are some tips for the run.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
