Ok, DC, go find your big boys pants, m-kay?

Seriously, you've put in the work and will be ready to go on race day. Enjoy the taper!

I did a 100 mile ride today and around mile 80 I was asking myself why I ever thought an Ironman was a good idea. I knew I was facing some major climbs in the last 20 miles and thought I may have to walk up one or two.... but I didn't!!! It helps that I pout my race wheels on and left the 28 cassette on the hub. I will definitely be riding the 11-28 at Placid. It was really nice to have late in the ride today.

Bobby, you know why you are doing this race, you ALL do.

You are doing it because it is really, really hard!!

Oh masochism...I feel super prepped for a 70.3 right now....the IM...not so much...Undecided

I'm really worried too. Stressed that I haven't done enough S/B/R (which I really feel I haven't...but given the whole school/research/traveling/randomness I did what I could for the most part)...I guess I probably would be feeling the same way right now regardless of how much time I had trained...It's like an exam...I always feel I could have studied more before the exam and think back and overanalyse what I should have studied more or should I make a last minute review of topic A...but I seem to always come out of the exam fine and have never failed.....so...that means I should be okay with IM? Haha. That was my long drawn out analogy I just rationalised to myself....

I think I feel better now...I just self BT therapied myself. Haha.

Perspective is a funny thing. Here we are thinking a 70.3 would be cake right now; before my first HIM I was feeling like I do now about IM

Good weekend for me.  On Friday new x-rays showed that the bones are in place and secure...good news.  With that the doc cleared me to run...immediately went out with splints on and ran 7mi.  Saturday was 6 dreadful hrs. in the saddle on the trainer (fortunately I had the TdF to keep me company) followed by a 45min. brick run.  Sunday was a slow run for 2hrs., then walk/run for 30min., and fast walk for the final 30min.  Total of 17.7mi.  Wednesday I get to get back in the pool as the incisions will be fully healed.

Overall I lost some fitness after being off for 11-12 days, but better than I expected.  Will have a final x-ray on July 18th before family leaves for LP.  If x-ray reveals nothing new doc believes I will be healed enough to race, or should I say a long training day for me and my friends (I likely will have to very conservative on the bike).  At this point I'm cautiously optimistic.

Hope everyone is enjoying the final build week before tapering.  Be safe out there!  I've learned that getting to the start line is the majority of the battle.

Yeah, not sure what got into me yesterday.  I had a weird Jerry Maguire moment.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7Iq6lOSoPM&feature=related

But I'm good now!  In fact, I'm great!!  I am doing the Ironman for the adventure of it.  The excitement.  The sense of accomplishment.  So my family can be proud of me.  I am doing it because it will inspire my kids and hopefully inspire others.  I am doing this because like Fred says: it's really, really, really hard!!  And the harder something is, the more satisfaction I feel when I complete it.

I am doing the Ironman for the simple reason that I CAN.  I CAN do this.  I WILL do this!  We are ALL going to DO THIS!!!

Hey IMLPeeps - Wow a lot going on here over the weekend!

tripadigin - This is great news and I have my fingers crossed for you! So true about making it to the start line being 99% of this.

DC - Glad to know you're feeling better today - We've all been there and having moments like that will make the finish feel that much sweeter!!!

mndymond - "self BT therapied" haha - You seriously have a lot going on doing this with school - very impressive!

mrbbrad - Good work on your ride - Did the rain eventually clear up? Was wishing I had a 28 at parts of the ride Sat.

Thanks for the good vibes - The nsaid medicine is like a miracle drug and I was able to complete the whole training regimine this weekend which really surprised me given the pain on Friday. So I am happy this wasn't a showstopper.

Happy 4th everyone! In 3 weeks we will all be IMLP Vets! :-)

Hey Everybody - just got off the road from trip for a family wedding - glad to hear everyone is on the mend! tripadigin, sounds like your prognosis is about the best it could be - that is really great to hear. And same for you RJohnson - if that had of turned out to be a stress fracture, that would have been very bad indeed. Just take it easy - at this point you have everything in the bank you need. Mrbbrad - great job on the long ride - my last long ride was in a downpour also, I just kept telling myself how awesome it was for the temp to be 20 degrees cooler than I was expecting. I was in the mountains, so the descents were a little hairy, but other than that it turned out to be a really, really great ride.

It is really funny to read the freakouts and therapy sessions, I trust that for the most part everyone is just blowing off steam??? I am feeling really good and honestly don't think about LP that much - maybe THAT should have me freaking out???? I figure at this point what is done is done, short of just a few more key workouts. Not feeling burned out, and still look forward to the long sessions. Tomorrow I have a 1:10 point-to-point OWS followed by 5 hours on the bike and a really short run-off, and a 3 hour trail run on Friday. Next week my last two significant workouts are another 1:10 OWS on Tuesday and a 4:00/1:45 brick on Wednesday. Then taper, taper, taper.

I am just now starting to really think about race-day logistics (beyond nutrition and pacing, hopefully I have that figured out - will find out tomorrow) and will have lots of questions for the group coming up!

Hope everyone is enjoying the 4th and manages to stay up late enough to catch some fireworks!

Never once did I question my capabilities of completing ironman until this weekend. 100 mile bike on Saturday and that was good , the 18 mile run the next day was where it really was hard!! I walked a bit every mile to "reward" myself of making it to the next mile. I'm glad its over. No matter what it takes we will finish!

Tripadigin and Ryan super pysched to hear the good news!

Happy 4th! Today I tried to rub a little patriotism into my kids telling them how lucky we are to live in America.

Stay careful and safe these last 20 days!!

Three weeks ago I felt strong and my workouts rocked. The last 1 1/2 weeks, not sot much.  It's good to know that I haven't been the only one struggling recently during the long runs and bikes. Also, three weeks ago I was still telling Mila that there's no way I'd do another Ironman, but secretly knowing that I'd sign up for next year on the Saturday before this years race. Over the last 1 1/2 weeks I've started to believe that this might be my one and only Ironman.

Today was a total rest day. The most difficult thing I did all day was unfold the beach chair and open a couple bottles of Ubu. I'm hoping to get back on track tomorrow and remember why I signed up for this thing.

Happy 4th to everyone!

My legs are smashed!  Saturday I had a solid 100 mile ride that included climbing up Bear Mountain (for those of you in/around NYC, you know what I'm talking about) then I ran 6.5 miles right after in the heat.  It was a strong ride and I nailed my nutrition which meant I felt really good on the run. Sunday I had my long 3 hour run and honestly, it was just about getting in 3 hours.  It was probably one of my slowest 3 hour runs in a long time - got about 18.4 miles in.  I ran in a thunderstorm and pouring rain which I actually enjoyed! Monday I had a 3500 yd swim that I got about 2000 yds in due to all the peeps in the pool.  Today... well today... my legs are still smashed from the weekend.  I had a 2 hour ride on tap and I could only get 1:40 done before calling it a morning.  My HR was super low, I just had nothing in my legs.  I'm looking forward to my legs feeling fresh again after tapering....

Arh...    You all trained.  I survived a three day wedding celebration and my liver hurts.  I have the shakes.  Running shoes and swim suit did come to the beach wedding BUT did not get unpacked.  I guess a 5 day rest is a good thing...  but a 3 day bender, maybe not.

Figured it was only right to have a few more y/day to celebrate you guys getting rid of us Brits all those years ago.  I`d celebrate getting rid of us too.....

The final countdown is about to begin.  Off to swet out all (or some) of the beer, wine, JD, Captain, McCallum 12yr olds etc with a long run this evening....  Good work everyone that did what they were meant to do with 3 weeks till IM.

You will be fine.  My training plan is probablly the same as yours (so to speak).  Are you doing Matt Fitzgeralds Level 6 IM plan.  I have used his plans for HIM and a IM last year that I never made it to the start line due to a bike wreck.  What I have found with my body is I can handle up to about 75 mile ride on Saturday and still have a quality run on Sunday.  This year year while IM training once my long rides started creeping up to 80-90 miles I didn't have the gas for a long run on Sundays.  I tried but once I started pulling 10 min. miles six miles into a run I knew I needed to change.  I use his plan and a couple other plans a friend gave me that has done numerous IM races.  His plans always run on Thursday.  These last few weeks I have been writing my plans to fit my work and family schedule.  This past weekend I had a 6 hour ride (which I got 112 in) and instead of running 3 hours Sunday I did a 1:30 min open water swim.  So yesterday I did my long run (18 miles) and my legs were still sore from the ride but overall it was a good run and I now feel confident come the end of the night July 24 I will be an IM.

I am going to send you a PM so check your messages.

Hey guys. I'm back in irrational freak out mode. Now I'm worried my long bikes wern't long enough and my long runs not long enough! Sigh. My longest ride was 6:00 and my longest run 2:30. My plan didn't have anything longer though...so I should just be content going with my plan. I guess I was always going to suffer a bit on race day though...It ironman....haha.

Just looked over my taper schedule. Taper looks so measly...Haha.

Ryan,
Glad to hear you have found an elixir........focus on staying healthy!

My weekend was CRAZY.....down and back to Joplin area to take some donations down to family members that got blown out by that tornado......that killed Sat for me....so......

Sunday I put in a VERY HILLY 8 mile run in like 104 degree heat index......

then Sunday I knocked out a very nice and hilly 122 miles on the bike.....and I now know I am just about ready for IMLP as I was stronger at the end of the ride than I felt at the beginning...so much so that I was putting in intervals over the last 20 miles for fun.......

One more long run next Wednesday and I am done........

Train safe folks!!!

Paul

I know there was a discussion on the IM Distance forum about the run last month.  There are alot of plans and coaches that call for no more than 2:30 or 16 mile runs.

The plan I used for IMCdA called for some 3 hour runs, but I am using a coach this year and I have had only one run @ 230. I feel much better at this stage than I did training for CdA.

Don't worry, training is complete, nothing you do from now til the race will increase your performance, the only thing now til race day is overdoing it and hampering your performance. Hang in there, your almost to start! Oh... we all suffer on race day, it wouldn't be Ironman if you didn't.
