Good to see you still postinG Fred. Bus vs bike is not good odds. Had a tough run today. Beautiful weather for running but legs were not ready for the pounding. My fault entirely for running on the treadmill all winter.

2 years ago today I got off the couch.  Below is the log I was keeping at the time.  I'm happy that I've stuck with it after so many failed attempts to improve my fitness.  What I'm most happy about is influencing some of my family and friends to change their lives as well.

Have a great day, folks.  Bike fitting tonight.  What's everyone doing today?

Summary

Name:

3 mi run/walk

Type:

Easy Run / Jog

Date:

03/14/2010

Start:

19:15:00

End:

19:55:00

Time Taken:

00:40:00

Workout Weight:

208.0 lbs.

Workout Route:

No Route! Map this Workout!

Total Distance:

2.92 mi.

Burned:

351 (kcal)

Effort:

Hard

Quality:

Bad

Workout Notes

Notes

First run since PT in 2008. Had to stop 8 times but I finished the route. Legs were tight, endurance is terrible right now.

Workout Stats

Pace:

13:40 (avg)

Speed:

4.38 (mi/hr) (avg)

Always good to look back and see where we came from.  I do it fairly frequently as well.  The thing I have found with endurance sports is that the mind easily forgets what used to be a good pace or distance or whatever...it always wants more, better, faster, etc...  I think that is why endurance sports are so dang addicting

Yesterday I was able to get a good 75 minute ride and then enjoy the 60 degree sunshine on a lunch run.  It was fun to see so many people out enjoying it.

Ran 9 this morning with perfect cool temps and going to hit the pool later.  I am getting the itch to get that bike on the open road.  This weekend for sure but hopefully sooner.

I have been eating so much better the last 3 days.  For me it is just making good decisions on what I eat.  I am not looking to necessarily cut back on how much I eat...just better.  So this is a good start.

Swim for me today.  My year membership expired at the community pool so I've actually got to shell out some cash.  It was $100 for the year, not so bad.  This should be the last week in the community pool and then I'll switch back to the neighborhood pool.  It should warm up nicely this week, although I see we have another cold spell coming

Fred D - 2012-03-13 4:38 PM Yes, many of us have weight loss goals that are a bit funny as going from 170 to 160 when 6' tall seems silly, but I think the commonality is that many of us know we eat like crap and want to do better. I had a nice outdoor ride which unfortunately finished up with a near death experience from a school bus driver.... People are truly crazy....

I didn't mean to put it down or minimize our challenges but it is really nice to be in a group of people who can (and usually do what we can) to maintain a healthy a lifestyle.  For some there has been a big journey and it is very inspirational.

  What's everyone doing today?

Masters swim and 4mi run on tap today. So far so good on the weight loss challenge. I have also added calorie logging to my ? repertoire. It's pretty easy with all the apps out there. I have had good success doing this previously. It helps when you can see how many calories that "treat" has. I try to stay around 3000 calories to start. That is hard to hit somedays if I eat healthy.?

So, things are fine with me.  My family is going through a bit of a health scare - my mom had a positive test for uterine cancer.  The prognosis looks really good - this is probably catching it in the very early stages but we don't know yet.  There's more surgery and tests before we know.  Mentally and logically i know she's going to be fine and this is a very good situation for cancer but it's really hard to process.  We are all so young. My mom is just 52 - which doesn't make a lick of difference to cancer except that i thought the big health challengers were further down the road.  Oh the ignorance!

Anyway, i am fine. I took some time yesterday afternoon to let it out.

I am so very happy to have ironman training as a physical outlet.  At least to physically exhaust me.  But this morning i put off trainer time to after work. So, I have an hour on the bike and an hour in the pool on the sched for tonight.

As I was swimming this morning, practicing my sightening for race day, I thought about how awesome it would be if I caught a draft off someone swimming the perfect line holding a 1:50 and I was able to stay on their feet. Hey, a girl can dream...  I am not sure I can hold a 1:50 for 1.2 miles, even with drafting.  But if that situation did show up I'd sure try my best.

And thanks to everyone for the positive thoughts and prayers.  We really are lucky and I know everything will be fine. It's just a lot to absorb.   Though, good news already - she'll be in surgery in two weeks.

Hey folks.  Bike ride for me today.  Should be a lovely day for it, with winds right about where they should be for the race given the past history.  I got some plugs for my aero bars last night and they look like they will work perfectly.  Actually better fitting then the original plugs so that's good.  I only ordered 2 online in case so I have to order 2 more.  I wish I had gotten all of them after I see the box they shoved them in.  I guess Amazon and UPS can't do envelopes?!?!?

What's on tap for everyone else?

Good morning. Got up for my run this morning.  All packed up to hit the university pool after work.  That way I don't have to do the 8:30pm to 9:30 swim at the local pool.

Feeling a little sleepy this morning.  It's dead at work today - March break means lots of people are off - many on my team are taking long weekends

Got a LTHR run test today!

I had a swim on the schedule yesterday, but those aren't a priority for me right now. I got some stuff done around the house and did a late night P90x arm/shoulder workout. In a perfect world, I'd have access to a 50m outdoor pool that is open 24/7 The new place in Tucson will have a pool, so I'll probably end up buying swim cords so I can swim in place in the pool when I have the urge to do so. Anyone ever use those?

Today was a AM run and a noon swim. The rest of my week is going to be busy with my training capping off with a longer tempo run on Saturday. That will put me over 15 hours for the week in SBR training. I will cut back the volume in prep for my 10 mile race 1 Apr. starting next week and taper the last week of Mar. Everyone have a great day on training.

Hey gang, I'm back from Disney! I'd forgotten how much I love places like that!

On the down side, I'm sure 3 evenings of all you can eat buffet have not been a good thing even with all the walking we did.

Jen, Sorry to hear the news, but glad to hear things are moving quickly to get your mum on the road to recovery.

Looks like today will be used to get back into the swing of things before officially starting my HIM training on Sunday
