Rides on Friday and Saturday. Did a metric century on the trainer on Saturday morning. Was supposed to ride 2:45 but figured it was close enough to the time it would take to hit 100KM and earn the white metric century jersey on Zwift. Hund with the family at my in-laws pool on Saturday and Sunday.

Kind of have hit the doldrums from training perspective. Foot is still a mess. If no improvement in the next couple weeks all racing will be out of the question for the year. Contemplating no running for a few months and a real focus on Phys Therapy for the foot. I have to get past this Plantar Fascitis so I can train effectively. Goal would be to then focus solely on biking and swimming.

Catching up:

Thurs: Run 39, Swim 45
Fri/Sat: Rest
Sun: Oly, but swim was cancelled so: Run 20:50 (4.3km), Bike 1:15:37 (38.3km), Run 49:16 (10km)
Mon: more rest

The Oly is an interesting little race. Normally you swim, run 1.5 km to the bike, bike 38.3km, run 10km. They substituted a 3km run for the swim. They do the mini-run because there is a major road that the police won't block for the bikes. We end up running up and over a little overpass to get across the major road. They take the mini-run distance out of the bike, but 1.5 + 38.3 is not 40 (and 3 + 1.5 is not 4.3) so I can only guess they add in the length of the bike transition and the run from the water up to the run transition. Anyway, race report to follow once they publish the race results. I am quite happy with the times considering the weather and the fact that I did not run while I was doing the bike tour. Times are estimates based on my garmin data.

Mitch I came across this posterior chain stretching routine the other day. Usually PF is caused by tightness further up the chain so maybe this will help. I'm curious to try the one where you sit on a chair with a lacrosse ball under a tight spot in your hammy and raise and lower your leg - it looks painful but awesome.

Thank you for the link. I will check it out. I really need to get discipline around my therapy - think I need to create a schedule where I check off stretching and therapy being performed a couple times per day....

Hi guys, it's been a while since I visited here, my apologies. Between extra work, family and other events that seemed to have piled up recently I was just too distracted.
The big Kokoda ultra I was concentrating on is done now and the pressure is gone. We have managed to complete that gruelling 96k mountain trail in 25:30' losing one team member and injuring one of the girls. The weather was cold, close to 0c with frost on the ground, warmer during the day and very windy on top of the mountains. I don't know what to think about the whole ordeal, it was the hardest thing I've done so far, take IM instead anytime (provided I do it slowly of course...). The young 18yo guy we recruited towards the end was a big risk, we had no idea what kind of training he's done and what his motivation was. After about 25k he was done and we had to slowly drag him to the next checkpoint weaving and practically passing out. Somewhere after the first half one of the other remaining team mates developed a very painful knee and was in severe pain on every descent. Somehow she pushed herself to the end, but one of the medics on course wasn't happy about it and mentioned surgery.
Still, it was a fantastic experience for me, totally unknown territory and am very happy to have finished in one piece and good spirits!

I think I have to take a break now from the disciplined training and enjoy some fun bike rides, kayak and other things.

I signed up for my first Century ride this Sunday. I am doing the Black Bear ride from Grayling MI to Oscoda MI. Overall the grade is downhill, but there a two big climbs in the last 25 miles. I know both climbs, but never climbed them on a bike.

Mitch there is still room to ride it. I start at 8:45

Congratulations Mark Z on that awesome accomplishment and for now having the cool titles of Ironman and Ultraman!  Look forward to your RR and hearing more about your overall experience with training, equipment, nutrition and the overall team dynamic as I now will have to start training for mine very soon.

I'm finally back in Guatemala after a great trip in Europe with the family which included the Challenge Roth as part of the "entertainment".  Glad I survived that race and can now look back at the happy moments, especially seeing my family at the end of the race and being able to share the finish line with my daughters

Adding a 1hr run through the majestic Rome, a 2km OWS and 1hr bike ride in Roth, a full IM Challenge Roth Race in 13:03, a 35 min recovery run in beatiful Prague and 1hr drainer today morning.  RR coming up soon

Gabe- I know where you do your OWS and I agree. You swim in the 8th wonder of the world, how could anything about that be bad. On the same token I also know where you do some of your training runs and am impressed you never complain about the hills. The Santiago to San Lucus run is impossible.
I love that they let your daughters cross the finish with you at Challenge Roth. What a great experience for them and for Dad. You were following my daughter's path through Europe. If you had gone to Berlin and Denmark after Prague, you would have followed her same route.

Your training plan is a guide but you don’t blindly follow it. You shouldn’t know exactly what you are going to do until the day you are to do it.
