Master 1609 Gold Coast Australia. | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Thank you guys for your kind comments! RR is coming up. Would I do it again...? Probably too early to say, but the girl who damaged her knee wanted to do it in 24hrs and it didn't happen this time. She will probably ask us to form a team next year and try again. She knows now that we can do it. Now, how do you say no to a girl who wants your company for 24hrs? How about two of them??? Gabe, great picture, happy faces, happy colours, thanks for sharing! Veteran 1900 Southampton, Ontario | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED 1:10 MTB ride, 50min run. Pre rode/ran Xterra Parry Sound race - first year at this venue which has just decided to add mountain biking to their cross country ski trails. The course is truly terrible in all aspects, no part was enjoyable and it seems that the trails were set up by someone who had never ridden a mountain bike or done a trail run. Injury potential is quite high. People there were already dropping their full distance to just the half. If it rains were are totally screwed, might be more walking than biking Jim 17 18:08:00 Mitch 15 17:45 Gabe 7 19:17:12 Mark H 2 1:20 Dan 19 41:30 Dennis 14 19:35:00 Dave L 14 16:48 Dave C. 8 8:21 |

Veteran 1900 Southampton, Ontario | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Originally posted by dgconner154 Dave that sounds terrible, good luck with the race. I'm hoping to do my first Xterra next summer. It was terrible in a soul sucking wonderfully elatedly glorious way. We all ran the same course and I pushed through it, certainly not at an alarming pace, but I got through. Just under 4hrs for a 1.5k swim, 23km bike and 8.4k run. Im slow but you do the math - thats one tough course. I did hit one tree and have the scraped bloody arm to prove it but otherwise the bike went okay. there were a couple of decent wrecks that I came across but nothing requiring assistance or medical. The run was through swampy muck and wet logs due to the rain for a good portion and featured "each lap of the course takes racers up The Wall – a massive 15m slab of sloping granite, complete with rope assists to aid those weary legs" I didnt use the rope of the first lap but by the second I was totally spent and had to use it. It was a little "tough mudder'ish" but again everyone had to do it so" it is what it is" My buddy talked to the series organizer and he said that you will never see another xterra as rough or tough as that one, I think the series organizer had just run the course THAT morning and saw how rough and difficult it was!. To further put a point on it, when we prerode the course yesterday, we arrived and there was a backhoe in the woods. It turns out that the section the backhoe was clearing was part of the course today. Dont let my description dissuade you, most xtrerra races arent too too technical and are all genuinely a blast. There is a different vibe for sure, people are competitive but also extremely supportive. If you have done trail running events its the same type of atmosphere. I will sign up for the next Xterra race a 12hr drive away tonight. Edited by DaveL 2015-07-25 6:47 PM |

292 , Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Took first in my AG and 9th overall in today's sprint. I'm not sure yet how many were in my AG or the overall race, but it was pretty small (they run an Oly concurrently and that is definitely the main attraction). I could definitely tell I haven't been swimming lately, but other than that everything felt really good. Race report is up. |

Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Dave, congrats on the AG win! Jim, I saw your ride on Strava...was it an organized ride or just for fun? Rough week last week. Went to Cedar Point amusement park on Thursday and that killed workouts for that and Friday. Long day. Not sure what happened to Wednesday...life must have gotten in the way. Got two rides in over the weekend pulling my growing 5 year old on the Wee Hoo attachment for my mountain bike. Set a new "course record"/PR yesterday for the track I often ride. Hit ninth for the year on a Strava Segment. I'm actively working on stretching and increasing flexibility in my feet and calves. Hoping to see some improvement but have ruled out running for the time being. Very depressing to have trained as much earlier this year and to have to wait to race again. My drop dead date for real improvement is mid-august in order to begin training for my annual HM. With all this in mind, I'm switching my cycling plan to a high volume one on Trainerroad and working on getting consistency in my swimming. Goal is to be run ready by winter and then begin running again with a healthy foot. Have a trip late this year planned to celebrate 20 years of married bliss with my beautoful bride...have to lose the pounds and start lifting to look good on the beach! It was the Black Bear Ride from Grayling to Oscoda. They run it in conjunction with the AuSable Canoe Marathon. My phone died at 81 miles, so the last 19 were not recorded. The course is really good and challenging. There were a lot of hills. Support was great. 5 aid stations on the route, all were well stocked. I was 91 st out of around 240 riders, I don't know the exact total, but they send out flights of 10 every minute and I know there were at least 24 minutes. |

There was a a wide difference in talent. I had never heard of the ODRAM until yesterday and I had heard of the run for the first time the night before. My neighbor does the Mountain Mayhem. I have never looked into it. I would love to do another century. I'm going to miss the one here on August 29th. My daughter Sophia moves to college that day, and so I will get my working humping her stuff to the 5th floor of a dorm. |

353 Conroe, Texas | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Cypress Triathlon #2 is now in the books and the race report is up. The morning got off to great start when I ran into a few of the local triathlon club members at the swim start. It's always nice to have someone to chit chat with to keep the race day nerves in check. I have recently acquired a reputation in my training group of having difficulties sighting while swimming in open water. Imagine my shock and disdain when a morning fog rolled in lowering visibility to less the 100 feet. Despite the fog I was still able to swim in a straight line. While honing my OWS sighting skills in very adverse conditions all I could think about was how I was going to handle the bike leg of the race. I've been increasing the amount of training on my bike recently and was really looking forward to applying this new training to a race. But while in the water I decided that safety would come first and if visibility was limited I would need to use caution on the bike. But that proved not to be the case. After exiting transition and getting about a mile from the lake the fog was gone and I turned in my best bike split time with a 22.8mph avg. The run was my standard triathlon run of 9:00 min/mile average, exactly the same as last year. I just can't seem to break that 9 minute mark in a triathlon. As far as the race itself, First Class! I'm a huge fan of ONURMARK productions and look forward to their races. Jim 19 24:44:42 Mitch 17 19:13 Gabe 7 19:17:12 Mark H 2 1:20 Dan 20 42:21 Dennis 20 29:20:00 Dave L 14 16:48 Dave C. 9 9:01 |

Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Mitch- There is a team relay one day run across Michigan. I spent Sunday night in Gaylord with a couple of Priest friends, one is a runner. He was telling me about that and a run across Italy he did when he was in Seminary there, which had a similar format. Teams start on opposite sides of the state or country then meet in the middle. Dennis-Well done, it sounds like a great race. |
