You may be on to something though.

I have (had?) some skills in more than one of those.

The computer guys were the most interesting speakers of the two days!

For those of you that understand this better than I do do you think that these changes could result in any major foot issues?

I have 2 pairs of 14s and they are great to run in, comfortable and cause me no problems at all. I have a new pair of 15s that I have been trying to "wear in". I have worn them maybe half a dozen times but I always end up with sore feet when I wear them. Last time I had a slightly burning pain in the sole of my right foot and the toes on my left foot went numb.

What do you think. Should I keep trying to wear them in for a bit longer or should i just give up and forget them and maybe move on to something else?

Stacey, I had a horrible time with my new Hoka Conquest 2. I loved my original pair of the Conquest 1 but after my half marathon in May I had to retire those as they were at the end of their days. Hoka came out with the Conquest 2 and they were purple so I had to buy them! I did my usual break-in routine of wearing them for short runs and then increasing the distance but nothing was working. In fact, I was having more pain in my good foot, ankle, shin, calf, Achilles than in my bad left limb. It got so bad that I was actually going back to my old Conquests know that they were beyond they're running days but they still felt better than the new. About 2 weeks before my Ironman I ran a 5k with my coach and my pain was so bad I was sure I wouldn't be able to race.

Then I read an article about the exact pain I was having and how it was caused by shoe companies changing the drops of the shoes. A drop as little as 2 mm could cause foot, Achilles, etc pain. I checked the Conqest 2 and sure enough they had changed the drop by 2 mm. I emailed my coach and he was really upset that he hadn't caught the drop change as that 2 mm is a big difference. I immediately ordered a pair of the original Conquest with the 6mm drop and started breaking them in for the race.

Moral of the story, check the heel to toe drop on the shoes and see if they're different. If they are that could be the cause of your pain. Don't try to push through like I did because I'm still having problems caused by the Conquest 2 and the lower drop.

If you're interested, here is the article: http://www.runnersworld.com/ask-coach-jenny/got-calf-achilles-or-fo...

Hmmm, carrying 140 concrete block up 20 meters of elevation and then building a shed with said blocks 5 days prior to a maiden IM attempt not the best idea I've come up with. #cantpickthingsupoffthefloor

Hi Laura, despite your references, welcome to the Manatees!

Seriously though, welcome Laura!! If you're serious then you need to have a plan! This is the most important thing that I've learned, by far. Good luck!

Nothing this season. My swim lessons start September 27th and run for 10 weeks, so that will get me to the holidays with some good structure. I'll start eyeing up a sprint for spring.

Yes, last fall I developed a case of  Achilles bursitis that I attributed to running in shoes with a slightly lower drop.  Two or 3 weeks ago I developed Achilles issues in the same foot without a change in shoes, so I don't know if my initial blaming of the drop was correct.  Still, I know that such changes can cause problems!

I saw on strava this morning that Jesse Thomas was commenting on the "wavy"ness and hoped it wouldn't be like that Sunday. Here's hoping for your sake that the water is calm.

I enjoyed the first episode, especially the pot shots at Americans and our Navy Seals .  I haven't seen the second episode so no spoilers

I have suffered through years of achilles issues (my right one is very sore now) and I have been very sensitive to drop in my shoes.  I do much better with a substantial drop and have even added a heal insert at one point on top of that.  I fell prey to the softness of the Hoka's and loved them for a while but I think the lack of drop in them has aggrevated my achilles.  I have not replaced my last worn out pair of Clifton's.  They have a trail shoe called the ATR Challenger that I can still like though.  They don't seem to have that flat, rolly feel that the Clifton's did.

PMSL. Yep, been reading posts on FB all week. Looks like a system is moving in Sunday with 5-6 ft swells and 20 mph winds. I've stopped caring now, I can't do anything about anything. The ball left my hand 30 weeks ago, can't change the direction of it now.

Nope, hadn't heard about it. Will take a look. I don't get to see normal TV due to my work pattern. Daytime TV, ie when I'm most likely to switch on is full of TV programmes designed to entertain either jobless layabouts or mothers with children. Netflix is my friend.
Talking of which, just come across Portlandia. That is so funny, and something that has not caused a blip on the radar over here. Any other gems that I should look at

It is unclear how stated references should help one's case for entry.

I saw on strava this morning that Jesse Thomas was commenting on the "wavy"ness and hoped it wouldn't be like that Sunday. Here's hoping for your sake that the water is calm.

He's been excited about the bike and also feels really under prepared.

Are we talking about Jesse or Darren

PMSL. Yep, been reading posts on FB all week. Looks like a system is moving in Sunday with 5-6 ft swells and 20 mph winds. I've stopped caring now, I can't do anything about anything. The ball left my hand 30 weeks ago, can't change the direction of it now.
Hey, if everything goes smoothly and according to plan it's not a real adventure.

BTW and chance of you getting out to see The World Mountain Running Championship?
