Just curious if the birthday boy of the week be sending treats to the MG? Do you need my address?

now how does this work!?!   i have to send you treats???  maybe i'll put a ribbon on and mail myself to you.  :-

I think it is a bow, not a ribbon.    Oh and I am partial to chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting and little sprinkles.

Does an hour long, deep muscle massage count as a workout?  I had one last night and my legs and back are killing me today.  Actually my whole body is kinda crappy but I assume it's just all the crap loosened up last night clearing out of my system.

I have to go to the doctor tomorrow to get my blood test results back. There must be something there because my doctor doesn't follow up unless something shows up in the tests.

Oddly enough these were all earned from cheerleading.  Throwing bodies around in the air and catching them (hopefully) can be very hazardous to your health. Once I even  had the word NIKE stenciled accross my face due to some bimbo who bent her legs and landed on my face!!!!   Those aren't smiles plastered on cheerleaders' faces, they are grimaces of PAIN!!!  The worst injury I ever earned from the sorority days was slipping down the stairs due to a chemically induced loss of equilibrium.

Wow!  Even I am intrigued by this!  I'm sitting here wondering if which part of her wardrobe that Nike Logo came from!

More power to you, Tracy, hope you "Reebok'ed her" right back!

Have any of you done a test to see how big of an effect aero bars have while riding?  I know it makes a difference...not trying to say it does not.

I am just wondering if anyone has done the same course with and without aero bars and if they have what kind of time differences did they see.

Sorry, should have clarified that previous comment,  NIKE was on the bottom of her foot - she landed with her feet on my face!!

Serious (sort of) question.  Santa brought us a Wii for christmas and I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts about the Wii Fitness and Yoga programs.  Are they worth it?  Would love to work on the flexibility and core strengthening features.  What are your thoughts?

I have never done Yoga with an instructor or in an organized class but I thought the Wii fit yoga was a little challenging (somtimes it was tough to do the pose and follow the screen).

I think it could be helpful with flexibility and thought the center of balance stuff was interesting.

My wife got into it until she really started running....We have the Wii fit, which is kind of fun too. Not being a big Yoga person, I found some of the workouts quite challenging. Your daughters would like it though. There are some fun balancing games on it..

Not quite the same test, but I did ride my 39 mile loop from last summer yesterday on my new TT bike vs. last year (on my birthday) on my road bike with clip on aerobars.  Granted, it was windy that day and not too windy yesterday, and I finished the loop in 2:12 vs. 2:30!  Next test would be to take the aerobars off and ride the road bike, but after yesterday, I'm not sure when I'll ever ride my road bike again!  I felt really FAST, especially on flats, new gearing 53/39 w/ 11/28 vs. 50/34 w 12/25.

Not sure how much of that is being in better cycling shape now than last April, but daum, that was good average of 1.5 mph faster at least.  I haven't been cycling enough lately to think that it's the engine, it's probably mostly the new carbon TT   Anyhow, I was pretty psyched!

What kind of supplements does everyone take? I have always used the animal pak for weight training. I just picked up some glyco maize but I am looking for some good recommendations. Also any tips on a good diet plan or where to find one? I need to lose weight while I improve performance and endurance.

Does travelling the whole 75 miles from Milwaukee count?  I am on the volunteer list this year for IM Moo....does that count? I would prefer a gyro from the "Parthenon" to any cupcakes also; I know, now I am just being difficult.

I am doing the NorthFace Endurance challenge later in Oct at Kettle Moraine Park, so no other Oct races for me!

Other than a multi vitamin -  I don't take anything.  Never really tried any of that stuff so I can't offer any feedback there.

On the diet side I have found that instead of dieting, controlling my snacking, quality of food, and portion sizes is what does best for me.  When I am trying to cut some pounds I will often eliminate nighttime snaks and any soda during the week.  I give my self the opportunity to do a little snacking on the weekends but keep it under control.  The only way I can control unhealthy eating at work is to pack what I eat, not eat out or hit the vending machines.  So a typical work day for me includes oatmeal and a bananna in the morning, a cheese stick for a late morning snack, a lean meat sandwhich for lunch along with a raw vegtable and a fruit, an afternoon snack of fruit and then an apple in the car on the way home (which helps me limit how much I eat at dinner).  We try to eat good at dinner but that is pretty hard because we have kids that don't like to eat a wide variety of food and we have so many nighttime activities that we often end up with a quick meal (mac and cheese and fish sticks) instead of a healthy meal so portion control is important.

As for diets, I have never done well with them.  For me, they have gotten me to loose weight but I find that I don't enjoy eating what they say I can eat so it is much easier to get grumpy and mentally weak and sneak some things that don't belong on the diet.

Earlier in the thread someone posted a suggestion around calorie counting that I thought was really good.  I think it was Sam?  Essentially, make sure the calories you burn are more than the calories you consume.

Sorry for the rambling...you probably didn't want to know my daily menu!!!  Just trying to give you a feel for what I do.

I have done lots of Yoga over the years (and all the way through both pregnancies)... And have played around with the Yoga on the Wii fit. I think if you already have a good understanding of Yoga and know what to focus on in YOUR body (for me, my constant internal reminders are to keep shoulders back and down, tummy against my spine, tailbone tucked... I have about 30 others but those are what come to mind first!)... Anyway, if you can sort-of self-police yourself you can do well with it. What I found really cool was to see how my balance was, which side I favored, etc. If you are less familiar with the poses, you might want to go to a few classes so you can make sure you are doing them properly for you.

I think the core stuff on the Wii can be hard work! But then I think *any* core work is hard work -- I must have a core of jello because it all seems hard to me. I am going to be VERY good about following the 2x weekly core workouts for my IM. I am, I am, I am. I can, and I will!!! (I have issues sticking to this part of training, so I'm really trying to rise up to the challenge!)
