brigby1 - 2013-02-16 12:01 AM 4600 in the pool and the water was way too warm. Blech!

Thats a yucky feeling, sweating in the water.

No idea how much I was sweating, but definitely had that heat soaked feeling like on a hot day.

heykev - 2013-02-16 10:52 AM So made it to Jacksonville Florida yesterday. The folder was here when I arrived so after getting settled, took it out for an easy spin. Today I was up at the crack of dawn and did a spin and easy run.  Trying to settle the nerves for my first marathon tomorrow. Doing the expo later and meeting my daughter. Drove the start yesterday and picked up my Gatorade, water and snacks for the run.  From what I saw, the course should look really cool.  Signs going up, pink balloons, getting pretty stoked for this. I'd love to finish under 5 hours, but for the first one I'll be happy to finish. As long as it's not dead last. second to last I'll take.

Have a great run!

Good luck Kev! Have a great race!

Just got back from a lovely, breezy 84 mile ride. 60 miles was with the group. I was in a 4 person breakaway the 2nd half and way out of my comfort zone but I held on...I am stubborn and my pride was at stake LOL...now I'm exhausted but happy Going to spend the afternoon at the skate park with the kids and hubby...then out to eat at my favorite restaurant...we didn't get a chance to celebrate Valentine on Thursday.

I am running a half marathon tomorrow morning and the weather is a bit iffy.  It's a very nice day here today but there is a chance of a bit of snow and/or freezing rain overnight and early in the morning.  Either way, it will almost certainly be a bit windy.  I'm really hoping for bare roads so I don't have to wear anything on my shoes for traction.

HM. in PEI. in Feb. They should give you YaxTrax in the goodie bag. Can't possibly be that many people signed up so it's not like they'd have to buy bulk.  Laughing  Good luck tomorrow. Stay warm and upright.

I have no idea what any of that means but it sounds great. No really, I am thrilled for you that your foot, and you, are doing so well. I think often about the little boy at your school who was so kind to you after your surgery .

All packed and ready to go to Jacksonville. Meeting my daughter and we'll be attempting our first marathon. Her friend is hoping to qualify for Boston again. Should be a fun weekend.  The bike arrived down there today so I can catch a few easy road miles to keep the streak going. Still a lot of snow here and icing in the morning from the run off.

That is Wonderful!!!!! what a great role model and buddy you are ! My 17 year old met my at the pool at 545 this morning... trying to butter me up so he could be with his friends rest of the day ! it worked.

its been SUper windy here. like blow our jacket of your back on a bridge all week. Hardly anyones been riding. SOoooo yesterday i realized i had not ridden since the dog chase event i had last weekend and i did NOT want to ride (scared).

I made a deal with myself either a) Spin Class at the gym ....or B) get bike on carrier and go ride. Well there was a 20 mph wind the last four miles of my "loop on the lake" place i go to. Found out 20 mph was my top speed on those downhills. Then i ran a few laps around the parking lot after biking. When i got home the temp had dropped ten degrees and the dog was cold and didnt want to be walked! So....I can ride cold and into the wind. Oh Boy !

Ditto on both points.

I ran 7.75 miles this afternoon. It felt wonderful, so I think I am fully recovered now. It was stinky. The road I ran on circled a field on which the farmers were spreading manure. Some of it was spilling onto the dirt road, so I had some obstacles to hop around.

Ha, that's great!  One of the joys of living and training in farmland.

My hopes for bare, dry roads have been dashed as it snowed overnight.

Arend, hope you had enough snow for some traction. It's windy/cold here this morning and I have a short run planned then masters swim this afternoon.  I believe several of you read TJ's blog and I've put it on my weekly "must read" sites. Good stuff. I'm going to get to the pool early today and try his high elbow drills. Thought I'd put the link here for anyone who hasn't been following.

Masters has a meet coming up in a bit that has a 1650 free event. This is just over a week before my season opens with one of my major races, an Olympic. Thoughts on getting in? (pros/cons) There is a 500 free, but I'm not sure it will tell me as much and it's on a Saturday, which would mess up one of my best training days. The 1650 is on Thursday or Friday, depending on placement.

Personally, I'd say it depends on how well you're trained to race a 1650yd swim race (not just the swim leg of an Oly) up to that point. If you haven't done much or any swimming lately (up to the date), I'd do the 500 free as a TT.  A 1650 isn't going to tell you much if you're not prepared for it.

However, if your season opener is major, an A race, and you'll have done a good bit of swimming prep for it ... 1650yd TT would hurt so good and seems like it fits in with your schedule. It also shouldn't hurt your Oly swim one bit if it's 10-11 days later.

With that in mind, swimming has been a point of emphasis since the end of the season. Last month was just over 60,000. This month will likely be in the 50's, and the next two (leading right to the swim meet) *should* be back over 60,000 each. Sessions are done moderately hard to hard for the main set, maybe an occasional moderate if I'm really burnt up at the time since I'm not exactly taking it easy on the bike or run either.

Half marathon done!

I'll do a full race report but the short version is this.  The conditions were brutal, the temperature was hovering right around the freezing mark.  When we started, the roads were slushy and snow covered.  At about the 5k mark, it started to drizzle and by 10k it was outright raining and windy!  The course was two loops and the second time around, the slush was mostly gone but the roads were rivers and puddles and I had given up trying to dodge them.  Because it was dry for the first 5k, I had taken off my hat and gloves and stuffed them in my pocket.  By 15k I realized that my hands were freezing but my fingers were so stiff I wasn't sure I would be able to get my gloves out and put them back on so I just carried on.  Everything was so wet by then that I really didn't care.  That and I was slowly reeling in the guy in front of me...

Old HM PR was 1:48:20
New HM PR is 1:38:09

My Garmin measured it 0.2km short but at the end of the first loop it was spot on for the right distance so I'm calling it accurate.    I haven't seen the official results so I don't know exactly where I placed but I think it was 6th or 7th OA.

Needless to say, I am absolutely thrilled with the time!
