Third place!! That's awesome!!

Houstonrider - 2010-03-01 4:21 PM

I have some good news and bad news. The bad news, the official race results are in and the RD stated that our group's start time were off by four minutes so the results display an earlier start time which affected my 1st run time by 4 minutes. He said this will be corrected and it affected everybody in my group equally so the placing is accurate. (I still ran a 7m3s pace)

The good news..... I finished 3rd not 5th. whoooo hoooo.

Maybe this weekend isn't going to be a big deal.  I am 0 for 2 on the last 2 game plans (Houston 1/2 & recent DU) I would like this weekend to be uneventful and just run 24 - 9s.

evondo - 2010-03-01 11:14 AM Congrats on the race as well and way to push through it!

Training this week for me would be just putting in the miles. Just go out and run, no care of pace... For nutrition you shouldn't need much different than your normal training runs that are 4-7mi long. Personally I wouldn't eat anything while running, sip on water/gatorade as needed and in between runs eat some pasta if available.

I KENOTT swim - 2010-03-01 7:20 AM

I could use some advice for this crazy relay I am signed up for this coming weekend.

I am running 4 legs over a 33 hour period for a total of 24 miles.  I will run 4-6.8 miles in each leg and I will be getting naps at best, not real sleep  (Sleeping on a gym floor or in a van).

What training would you do this week? (Our team is not racing hard so I am running 9 min / miles throughout - I don't need speed I just need endorance)

What nutrition advice would you have? (the only training comparison I have to this is my century ride on the bike)  I have not attempted to train this many hours within a 2-day span before.

Ken,

Just make your plan and stick to it. No need to make it complicated. Some times when I'm biking I become a slave to the numbers (averages, pace, cadence), it's hard but some times you have to take a step back and just enjoy the bike/run.

This weekend is all about having fun and getting some good runs in. No need to over think...... just have fun.

I had a very interesting moment on my run this morning...

I was in my cool down with about 6:00 remaining and I was coming up on a driveway where a man was standing by the curb - smoking - (ugh!) with his car running (ugh, again). Anyway, I can tell he is going to talk to me. I think he's going to ask if I'm training for something...no big deal. But he says "Excuse me, I think I hit you last week." I'm thinking that if he thinks he hit me last week, gee thanks for stopping to render aid, buddy...and yeah, I made a miraculous recovery since then.

Actually, he did almost hit Nik last week. He was trying to light his cigarette and drive...ended up on the opposite side of the street and Nik had to hop over the curb into someone's yard. I did tell him it wasn't me but it was her. He asked me to apologize for him and to let her know his windshield was frosted over and he couldn't see crap... yeah...and you were trying to light a cigarette at the same time...makes sense to me.

Anyway, it was an interesting end to the run and just a reminder as to how clueless the sedentary world can be.

Just thought I would drop a quick note into the group to say hi.  A couple of you left inspires for me after I logged a workout in the past couple of weeks - I actually can't believe you'd check the logs.  But thank you, it was quite motivational to see that people still checked up on my logs even though I dropped out of sight for a couple of months.

I've made a ton of excuses for myself over the last little while as to why not to train, so I'm hopefully past that and can get back into full training.  I can't run much due to ITB, but I'm getting back on the wagon for using the roller and doing exercises.

Anyhow, just thought I'd drop a note to say thanks for the inspires - they did help inspire me!

it would have been really funny if you flashed him and then walked away without saying anything.   i'd bet he'd be paying attention from then on.

glad you guys didn't get hit.  and i'm kinda glad he shown at least some sort of responsibility.  don't see that much anymore.

So very proud of our sweet Jusine!  And Ken for sticking it out!

I had my first appointment with the Dr. Cadena yesterday to work on my IT band issue.  It was pretty intense and I am bruised this morning but going back for more abuse Thursday morning.  He said no biking or running until after our next session and then he wants me to run to check the progress.

His theory is that when the IT band is irritated and swollen scar tissue is created and the only way to get rid of the scar tissue is to massage it out.  He does marathons and ultra marathons so he knows what it is like to not be able to run.  I'll keep you updated on the progress.

March goal is to increase time/distance running. I hope everyone has a great day.

Happy Tuesday everyone!! I'm suffering through a finance class right now with the biggest A double S of a teacher I've ever had. I wish I was exaggerating but the man told us last week we were stupid if we couldn't figure out how to do the project he assigned and we better not ask him questions about it as that's cheating and he thinks he should report us to the academic dishonesty board and believe we don't deserve a diploma or job ever in our entire life. Unfortunately that's almost word for word what he told us... not sure how he still has a job. Now it's snowing so I'm even less interested in class. That being said I am testing out the shins today with a short run, haven't decided if I want to do something else on top of that. Hope everyone's having a good start to their week!

Question for the Houston peeps - Did anybody else go for that OUL deal where you registered for all 3 races and got the free tri outfit?  I went ahead and registered, the price was right and all 3 races were already on my schedule so it made sense.  However, after seeing the WHITE tri top I'm wondering if they plan on charging spectators admission.
This was obviously designed by a dude.  The sides are black which will be slimming but WHITE?  Really?  And the bottoms have a white arch over the butt.  I'll definitely be conducting a wet trail before wearing this in a race.

Sorry Keri.  I did not since those races did not work for me.  I know one of our friends that is a polka dot (a girl) has said the dot uniformed wasn't designed with women in mind either.  She wears an extra sports bra underneath.  Definitely do a test run!

Betsy0706 - 2010-03-02 10:23 AM Sorry Keri.  I did not since those races did not work for me.  I know one of our friends that is a polka dot (a girl) has said the dot uniformed wasn't designed with women in mind either.  She wears an extra sports bra underneath.  Definitely do a test run!

KeriKadi - 2010-03-02 10:05 AM Question for the Houston peeps - Did anybody else go for that OUL deal where you registered for all 3 races and got the free tri outfit?  I went ahead and registered, the price was right and all 3 races were already on my schedule so it made sense.  However, after seeing the WHITE tri top I'm wondering if they plan on charging spectators admission.
This was obviously designed by a dude.  The sides are black which will be slimming but WHITE?  Really?  And the bottoms have a white arch over the butt.  I'll definitely be conducting a wet trail before wearing this in a race.

It's not the run I'm worried about Wink  I usually wear a sports bra under my tri suit anyway, I'm just wondering if one will be enough - even white sports bras become transparent when wet.
And then there's the bare looking belly, it's not going to be pretty.

I agree with Justine on this one!  Sorry to hear about the prof.

Houstonrider - 2010-03-02 11:00 AM Sorry to hear about your Prof. You may not realize it now but he is teaching you a lesson... People can be an a&& so learn how to deal with them now. If it's not a prof it's a co-worker or boss. Best of luck with him.

Emmanem - 2010-03-02 9:33 AM Happy Tuesday everyone!!

His theory is that when the IT band is irritated and swollen scar tissue is created and the only way to get rid of the scar tissue is to massage it out.  He does marathons and ultra marathons so he knows what it is like to not be able to run.  I'll keep you updated on the progress.

Just curious if he has you using a foam roller at the same time, and how long it is expected to take for you to recover?

I will continue to use my foam roller but can tell you it doesn't even compare to what he is doing to me!
He is hoping I'll be good after 2 sessions.  He wants me to go for a run and see how it feels after
session #2.  We will go from there.  He did mention gait analysis to prevent this from happening
again but he doesn't want me running until after #2 so I'll wear my running shoes Thursday
morning so we'll do it then or at #3.  I think it depends on how much scar tissue there is.

That's definitely a possibility for next time, John...scare em off and he would probably never come out of his house after that. Laughing

Betsy0706 - 2010-03-02 9:54 AM I am quite certain what John said is true!

roadrhino - 2010-03-02 7:38 AM I had a very interesting moment on my run this morning...

Anyway, it was an interesting end to the run and just a reminder as to how clueless the sedentary world can be.

it would have been really funny if you flashed him and then walked away without saying anything.   i'd bet he'd be paying attention from then on.

glad you guys didn't get hit.  and i'm kinda glad he shown at least some sort of responsibility.  don't see that much anymore.
