IceManScott - 2011-05-18 10:01 AM First time trial of the year last night. 12.5 miles.  First time on the TT bike this spring.  First night with new pedals and shoes.  Lost 15 seconds getting clipped in.  Then burned 98% of FTP to the end.  I was happy with that for the first race of the year.

Functional threshold power is that place where the body can eliminate lactate acid just as fast as it creates it.  Any harder and the burn starts, you are anaerobic and it hurts. FTP is to be held up to an hour.  We find it through testing on a computrainer at 20 minutes as hard as you can go, then take the watt reading and subtract 5 percent.  Thats how my coaching group does it.

The week after that we are doing a 12 person relay from Madison, WI to Chicago (200 miles)  How strange are we that we would want to spend a pile of money and give up a weekend at the beach to run our pants off for 30 hours while camping out in a van on the side of the road with 11 other people who have been running and smell like it too, all in the name of FUN!?

Is that the Ragnar Relay?? That's coming to my area this year I think.  A friend did this in L.A. last month.  Sounds like a blast!

Hey McFuzzies!  Wanted to stop in and say hey!  I hope all is well for everyone.

I am 23 days out from my Boise 70.3...I can't wait!  I am so excited for it.  My training has been excellent--but more importantly consistent as all get out.  I think I'm going to have an ear to ear grin on my face the whole time...at least that's my hope!

Three of my senior boys who ran cross country for me talked me into doing a Super Spartan race with them in July.  Of course I said 'heck yeah!'  It's an 8 mile race filled with ridiculous physical obstacles.  Should be a heck of a time!  Our team name is Mud Ninjas...we plan to finished completely covered in mud.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hello McFuzzies,

Long time away from the site.

Ingleshteechur - congrats on your training and good luck at the race. I am sign up for the Warrior Race, it seems to be a lot of fun, .

Stephsprint - congrats on your PR and good luck on your job hunt

soccermom / ecpasos / disciplineguideservice / iceman / suzzimer / corncub / robingray / ree = cograts on various personal accomplishments.

I did a Biathlon today, 3 mile run = 30m50s / 20 mile bike 1h38m run was good, just a little walk at middle of mile 2, bike started very good, at mile 3 I saw another rider with a flat walking back with his bike so I stopped to help, it probably took us 15 - 20 min to get it fixed so I'm happy with the race time.

It was VERY hot but very fun!

The timing was manually so I don't have the official time and place. all I know is that first of my age was 1h33m.

YAY! I would love to do one of those obstacle course things, and the mud just makes it more appealing HAVE FUN! lucky kids to have a teach like you in their lives.

I'm doing a trail run this weekend at Oleta State park. I did one last year as a beginner beginner.... in August. It was hot, buggy, miserable...and I had more fun that should be legal.... felt like a little kid! So this year as a slightly more fit person, and with actual trail shoes.. I should enjoy it more.

GO MUD NINJAS!

I have not been around much lately (work has been a ZOO)  putting in WAY too many hours... keeps getting in the way of training   Looks like everyone is doing well and we are getting well into race season 2011.

This saturday I am doing an Olympic tri on a relay team (another first for me).  I will be doing the swim portion (1500 M - shooting for sub 24 minues) The rest of my team is stacked with a guy who can go 22 mph average on the bike and another guy who can run sub 6:15's  If I hold up my end, we got a real shot.

Maria and I will be doing the Deer Creek Sprint in Columbus, OH on June 5th.  This will be Maria's first triathlon (I am more excited for her than she is).

Isn't it funny how we get more excited for other people doing their first tri than they seem to be!  My friend and I are doing one in late June and it will be her first and I'm just busting with excitement for her!

Let me know how it goes, I'm trying to talk most of my family into doing it with me when it's in Tucson in Feb.  It could be really fun if we get all 5 of us siblings and our wives and husbands doing it!  But it is the 8 mile one which is what you are doing so let me know!

robingray_260 - 2011-05-25 4:29 PM Anyone racing this weekend? I have my first sprint of the season on Saturday - getting a little nervous!

Your logs look like you are more then ready physically. On the mental side, nerves are good! They sharpen you up and the adrenalin on race day will be a real boost... GO GET EM TIGER!!!! What kind of goals do you have for the race, if any?

Back to me... I've been feeling craptastic for 3 L O N G boring days with a cold. I finally got out of the house this morning and went to a gentle yoga class for the 60+ crowd (60+ civilians, not triathletes -little bit of a difference there). Ah, sux having my first race 3 weeks away and missing this whole week of training. I haven't gotten a proper ride in in a long time. I think for me this is the most stressful part of triathloning; keeping to the training schedule when life gets in the way. I dont think I'd get nervous if I felt like I had all the "prescribed" training in. I guess this will be one of those races I simply do to finish and have fun with,  I'm not going to set any ambitious goals. Sorry, folks, just thinking out loud here really. Hope ya'll are having a great week. The weather has turned around in NY after what felt like a year of rain... its time to get outside again: )

Not racing, but doing "Bike the Drive"  Lake Shore Drive (main drag that hugs the lakefront from the north to south side of Chicago)  is closed to cars and the bikes take over for several hours early Sunday morning.

So, I final had s very small break from work / training.  I took a couple of minutes to catch up my training log as well as fill out a race report for the Olympic race I did this past weekend.

I was the swimmer for our relay team.  Was hoping for the 1500 yd swim to be sub 24.  I guess I did not realize the race was 1500 Meters wich is actually 1640 yds (that adds a little time

So the water was 62 degress and it was a 2 lap open water swim which I was able to do in a little over 23 minutes (that was a 1:25 / 100 yd pace)  wich I was very happy with.  But the most important thing to me was not the time so much as the 1st place medal our team got for winning our division.  What is hard to believe is that with a time of 2:18 and a win the relay division by over 8 minutes, we still only placed 4th overall.  Three different individuals beat our time (1st guy by over 10 minutes)  Now that guy is an animal.

Tons of fun though, and glad I did it.  All the experience of racing without all the pain the next day.

I know how you feel.  I've been dealing with a calf strain for the past 10 days or so (no running and not much biking) and have a tri coming up in 3 weeks too.  I don't think I'm really worried about it, I just know that I'm not going to get the result that I was hoping for.  But at least we'll be out there doing it!  That's assuming that the tornados stop by thenFrown.  At this point I'm more concerned about the weather than anything else.  We've been lucky so far where I live, but I'll be glad when we finally get back to more normal weather.

Have a great week all and good luck this weekend Robin!

Hi everyone.. Sorry I've been out of the loop for a while.  I've been spending a lot of time with my tri coach.  I had my first round at boot camp this week, and yes it whiped my "BOOTIE". Cry

I have my first tri coming up on June 5th.  I'm getting nervous.  I've been trying to get into the open water to get some experience. (our lake)  I had a freak out moment the last time I got in.  IT WAS COLD!!! I felt good in my wet suit though.  I just have to get my breathing down in the ice water, while trying to catch my breath to swim.  I was supposed to swim with my coach last night, but we had tornado warnings around here, so we trained inside instead.  I will be giving it another go tomorrow.  I hope everyone is staying strong in their training.  I know there's a lot of races coming up.  Anyone doing a race this weekend? - Ree

No races this weekend, but I'm thinking of signing up for an Olympic distance on June 18th.  It's not too expensive, is close by, and would make for a good little "tune up" race before the IM in July.

Also, today I again realized how bad I am at open water swimming.  I went to join a OWS team nearby and swam with them for 1.5 miles.  I was incredibly uncomforable, swallowed a bunch of water, and came in dead last.  I am so not used to that type of experience.  Anyway, I can only get better!
