Just checking in...I know it has been a couple of weeks.  Work  and training have been keeping me on my toes.

Tif and I are a week out from Galveston and I am getting really excited.  I am very happy with the training we have put in and now I am ready to race.

Today was the last long ride before race day...was supposed to be a nice ride, but due to fog it ended up with us going in a circle for almost 4 hrs to get 60 miles in...I guess we needed to train the mind too.

Glad to see everyone is getting good training in and the weather is starting to looking better in the more northern parts.

I just put on my painting shirt, which just so happens to be the first multi-sport race I did.  A duathlon in downtown Portland on May 22nd, 2005.  I had already done a marathon or two before then, and always biked, but it is the first time I combined the two.

Got 2 outdoor rides in this weekend of about 90 and 105 minutes each which is good but wish they were longer...just too much going on.

I have been cleared to race next weekend...a 10 mile trail race so excited about that.  Looks like alot of folks are racing next weekend so hopefully everyone does really well.

I have my championship busch league hockey game tonight...we have been 1st all year so hopefully we can pull it out.  We are playing for the Stanley Keg!!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

It's amazing how quickly three months goes by...definitely feeling the pre-race week anticipation now! Life has seemed exponentially hectic on top of the regular training this year for some reason. But race weekend is always a good way to take a deep breath and get away from a lot of unnecessary chaos.

I'm not much of a race weather obsessor until a couple days prior, but I keep getting that question about the forecast. Not sure what it will be, but a day like we had today (minus the .15 visibility fog), would be great racing conditions...low 70s, light winds from the west, overcast skies.

There's also a lot on my mind about how to attack the rest of the year and go into 2013, where I want to do my first full marathon and my first IM...but I'll save those questions and thoughts until after this weekend's race.

Hope everyone is enjoying their training, and to those with injuries and illness, I'm sending healthy thoughts...hope you can all get back on track soon.

Sigh, I gained a pound, so back to where I started.  Honestly not that surprised.  This weekend was a crap weekend eating wise and didn't do stellar the week before.  That's ok, this is another week

My whole body is absolutely smashed today.  We ended up winning our hockey league in OT last night.  We played two games.  That is the end of hockey and I am happy about that actually...now can just S/B/R.  Taking a total rest day today.

I am probably going to train as usual this week and not do a specific taper for this race...I just want a hard training day.  I will probably take it a bit easy friday but thats all.  The guy that beat me by 15 seconds earlier this year for 2nd OA at the half marathon is entered so I really want to beat him .

I am excited for you guys racing 70.3 this weekend.

Nice run Friday night, 2 hour ride nice and easy Saturday and crit race yesterday. LAst night I went to the wake of my friend that died on Monday and my wife leaves for Florida for 3 days today, still eating like crap, back to 213 for weight.

Small fields this weekend considering the weather and last weekend, made for some really good racing, i did my job which was to put my sprinter in position and he got 2nd in the field sprint for 4th overall. A 2 man break got away that sprung off an 8 man break halfway through the race, i could not bridge to the break as i had 2 teammates in it, so i did some blocking and such.

All this racing is very exciting!

I think it's Tiffany doing the 70.3 as well.

No racing for me. This weekend upcoming looks like it will be our only quiet weekend with no race or planned family thing until mid-May so we hope to enjoy it.

Weighed in this morning and it looks like i might be down .5 lb.  We don't have a digital scale just one with a needle but it was just under that 125lb mark.  Looking forward to  week of good choices and lots of working out to make up for last week.  This weekend i feel like i did well. I did eat out a bunch (one meal was chicken wings) and drank too much alcohol but i am not a big drinker so the fact that i had 4 or 5 drinks over the weekend was a lot but i really curbed the mindless snacking.

Today is floor hockey and group swim.  I have really enjoyed playing floor hockey but i can't tell you how happy i am that we only have three games left. It just feels like an imposition now that i have ironman training to worry about and swim the same night.

For those who have flown with your bike, what would you pack in the bike case vs carrying with you?  Would you put your helmet/shoes in the bike case or carry them with you for example?  What about pedals?  Etc.  Any tips welcome.  I am fairly confident on breaking down the bike and packing it as I have shipped the bike in the past but I did not have to worry about anyone riffling through the case then

Oh, forgot was the mentor group weigh in day... I apaprently did well even though weekends are a little loose, this morning was 203.8.  That's about 25-30 pounds less than I raced this same race last year.  Wasn't keeping good weight records, so who knows.  I expect to go up a couple pounds and then settle back around this weight for race day.  Which was my goal, so I cannot complain

Looks like weather won't be an issue for me this w/e, maybe a little windy.  On that front I am borrowng a friend's aero helmet to help a little bit.

Good luck to everyone else racing this weekend.

Good morning.  Just finishing my latte before heading out.

This morning the hubby and I did an HR test on the bike - ouch and sweaty.  And then a short t-run with the dog. She's super cute but it's hard to pace well with her.  But it does make for a happy morning - a dog's enthusiasm is infectious!

Short easy bike ride today and then time to pack the bike (after I go to the hardware store and get some pipe insulation).
