Artemis - 2007-11-16 11:42 AM I was in the boring class again. TAing the same course every year gets boring. This is the 4th time I've heard the lectures and it's hard for me to look like I'm paying attention. Or at least not sleep during the class.
Which class?

Integrated Bioinformatics.  It's a 600 level class for grad students. The way some of them act you'd think they were freshmen.  I also get tired of the people who think they are really smart and feel the need to demonstrate that....except that they are usually wrong.

mr2tony - 2007-11-16 10:17 AM Where in the HECKFIRE is everybody today??? My dog has stomach problems -- she throws up almost daily -- and the doctor can't figure out what's wrong with her. It kills me that they can't fix her. They want to do exploratory surgery but that scares me. I don't want anything bad to happen to her when she goes under the knife.

How long has it been going on?

Yeahhhhh ... bioinformatics. I took that in ninth grade and you're right. It's a real snoozer.

Crowny -- she's been yakkin' for about eight months now. We've tried everything but surgery.

I only said it was boring because I've heard the same lectures every year for the past four years.  That's boring.

Sorry your dog is sick.  That's a long time to be sick and it's got to be incredibly frustrating that they don't know what's wrong.

I honestly have NO clue what bioinformatics is ... I suck at science and math, so I really hope it's one, or both, of those.

Yeah I hope she's OK. I'm never having kids, I've decided, because if I get this bummed and worried about my dog, imagine how I'd be if I had a child!

How, pray tell, did I get sucked into that STUPID thread about whiners. Ugh.

You responded.

That is a long time.  I think surgery is the best bet.  Probably a good thing to do too.

Yeah we may end up going that route. Well MRS2Tony is going to start her on a one-a-day Zantac regimen for two weeks to see if that helps.

Rynamite - 2007-11-16 1:48 PM Alright, I just figured out how to save our company at least another 30 grand next year. How do I go about getting my boss to give me a cut of that?

Ask for a raise citing this number and all of the other ways you've saved the company money.

Unfortunately no, it's not.

I saw you getting into those threads... I was kinda suprised.

I am kinda pissy tired today.  I thought I would jump in with guns a-blazing.

wow.  I wonder what was said.  I knew it was going to get yanked....I was waiting for his rebuttal and I was ready to pounce.

Maybe we should start a "I want to whine because the whiners thread was pulled" thread

I think the moderators are starting to run a tighter ship because some people are trying to cross the line. I consider myself a bit of a line-crosser sometime and I got nuttin' on some of the folks around here.

I think there is a fine line between argumentative banter where you pushing someone's buttons and making personal attacks.  I stated in my last comment that I had a problem with the message...not the messenger.  But I did feel like he was defensive on the issue.

I wonder what was said to get it pulled.

Yeah, I was pretty amused with the later responses of the OP. Translation was basically: "My post was shredded and I can't even come close to defending it, so I'm going to just keep saying that your responses are proving my point."

I imagine there was a pretty personal attack that got it pulled. Last post I saw was from runningwoof.

Regarding the snarkiness on the boards lately.  I think it has to do with a few things.

1) it is that time of year.  People tend to get a little more snarky because of the reduction in sunlight, pressure for the holidays, etc.

2)  I would assume the number of participants have risen on the site over the last year or so compared to past years.  Therefore, more people, mean more view points, therefore more potential for debate/arguments/conflicts.

Your thoughts?

Oh, and the anti TAN stuff just cracks me up.
