We are having the strangest weather here.  I went for a run Sunday morning in shorts and a t-shirt.  It was warm and humid, with some wind, and I was sweating.  Two hours later I went out to teach a yoga class.  Expecting the same weather, I was wearing a sleeveless top with my yoga pants.  I almost froze!  I had to put the heat on in the car.  I can't believe how fast the temperature dropped.

Ours switched over from Saturday (hot and very humid) to SUnday (cool, rain/drizzle, and very windy). Unfortunately, I did my bike ride on Sunday. There were times while on downhills that the headwind was strong enough to slow me down.

Short easy run this morning. Wow the glorious cools temps are such a treat! May do a ride later, may not. I have my long run tomorrow morning and an OWS, so I don't want to push it.

Hope everyone is doing well!

You guys are really doing well. My Sunday numbers didn't make into the mix--so we're a little higher.  I did 2 hours bike, 1 hour run.  I completely blew up on the run--too fricken hot.  I got to figure the heat thingy out.

Cheers!

The heat thing is the worst. It takes me sooo long to get used to the change. I usually do specialized heat training the first few couple of weeks and this seems to helps some. But I still end up cranky and running poorly for a while. Getting the hydration thing down is the hardest.

(Of course it's it's 50* out this morning?! I certainly will take advantage of the cooler temps to do my run, but geesh, make up your mind! Next thing you know it will be 90 again!)

What specialized training do you do for the heat?

Very well said.  The biggest thing about recovery workouts is that you're focusing on only one thing.  Form.  Ok two, dialing it down and bearly moving.

When I first started running it was in the summer here in MS. My coach led me through a training plan that was specifically aimed at surviving hot temps and humidity. I can share what I know-

The main thing we did was to do a planned set of runs during the warmer times of the day. By a set I mean, 2 or 3 miles x 3 times a week for several weeks, short easy runs at increasingly hot times of the day. Starting out at maybe 10 AM then as the weeks progressed pushing to 11 AM or later. Working on hydration was key, but not over-hydrating was important too, you want to train your body to be efficient in the heat. I also had to experiment with nutrition intake; it's different for me in the summer, electrolytes became more important. We did avoid the worst time of the day, 2:00 PM with 100* and 90% humidity can get you in trouble, (but you can train for it.) I also did not do all my runs at this time, speed workouts were still done during cooler times of the day.

I have even run into runners who come down to our locale specifically to train for big races in hot humid areas, of course they are more elite than I and usually have professional reasons for wanting to acclimate to these conditions, for me it's all about comfort and health.

The amazing thing was that before I knew it, my body was getting used to it and I could run almost any time of the day I wanted to, and my summer running season wasn't so darn uncomfortable.

Thanks, QZ.  fingerscrossed you have a cooperative river and weather for your OWS.  thats awesome that you have a tri club close by.

i need to get me one of those.  a run club.  a swim club.  some biking clubs that i dont participate in.  but no tri club.

ENJOY!
