Veteran 232 Rio Rancho, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins Hey folks, Don't get down with being 4th. We can EASILY make this up. So let's go for it. As for me my biking is letting me down a bit and I need to work on it.......but I have good news on that front.......I found a new bike that I really like on closeout and with a bit of juggling of the household finances (with the assistance of my wife and CFO of the Black family) I was able to afford it......so the LBS is getting it all checked out and set up and I am picking it up tomorrow. I am really looking forward to clocking up some miles and getting used it before my first tri next month!....so watch my biking numbers climb....110% here I come! I am soooooo excited. I am like a kid on Christmas Eve.....or so I am told by the 10 people I have told about my new bike! So come on Pumpkins......be persistant. A lot of us may have missed some training for one reason or another over the last weekend........and we could get down on ourselves........or we could just see it as a "mid-challenge recovery period" which we will be able to fly out of and really put the pressure on those teams currently ahead of us. Also, we may have lost a team mate (sorry Kim), but we also gained our very own cheer team (Hooray for Kim!).....how many other teams have that......eh??!!?? GO PUMPKINS!!!! |

Extreme Veteran 364 | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins Howdy folks! I hope the training is going well. Today is supposed to be a day off for me but I'm going to take advantage of this is dig a little out of the 27 mile deficit I'm in on the bike. 15 miles today and no bike planned for tomorrow so another 15 miles tomorrow and I should be sitting pretty again. Let's hope this works. |

Master 1704 Long Island, NY | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins Hey Team: Just an FYI, this stomach thing is not going away and I am beginning to get concerned. Knowing myself, I will try to get all my hours in in the last 4 days so as to not hurt the team. I asked Jen to withdraw me from the challenge to make sure I don't do something stupid and risk my season. I hope to join you guys in May and this sucks because I enjoyed the Challenge last month as it really helped me achieve my monthly cycling goal. Good Luck and Bring it Home!!! Tim |

Maybe we should be team smashed pumpkins My foot is starting to feel a lot better (i'm doing an experiment tonight..wish me luck!), so I'm thinking that in May I will have my revenge on the challenge forums! Edited by kimmitri408 2008-04-16 12:48 PM |

Extreme Veteran 364 | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins Long run this morning. Got up at 0400 and out the door by 0430. Beautiful weather for a run. Middle 50's and clear (two things that Korea has been lacking the past few months) I'm back to within 3% of my schedule for running and 5% of my schedule in biking. However, as previously reported incorrectly, I do have an hour ride to do this afternoon along with a speed day in the pool. Looks like it's going to be a mini-tri day for me. Luckily tomorrow really is a swim only day. I triple checked this time. |

Maybe we should be team smashed pumpkins My foot is starting to feel a lot better (i'm doing an experiment tonight..wish me luck!), so I'm thinking that in May I will have my revenge on the challenge forums! An experiment??? Intriguing! i am an engineer...i can't just try something out - it HAS to be an experiment. and i have a thesis..as required Basically I accidentally figured out that walkign in my old shoes, i have no foot pain. i'm going to do a little test tonight to see how i feel on an extended walk, hopefully it's okay. if so, then in two days, maybe a little jog! fingers crossed..i've given it over a week's worth of good solid rest. |

Veteran 290 Texas | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins Hi Gang Tim and Kim- hope you guys recover quickly and thanks for staying on as our designated cheer team! I think you guys should freely harass the other teams, like the antlered meeses Let us know how the experiment goes... Life/work still not too settled, but getting over one big hurdle - won't really know about work until end of the month and still lots lots to do. We'll see, hope it all works out OK. On the life side, my 15 yo son broke his arm - doc didn't put a cast on yet and we're both super happy about me having to give him a sponge bath in his swim suit in the morning (not) - hoping doc casts it next week so he can manage better without the shooting pains and bathing on his own! OK - enough whining - on to training! Planning to do one sport tomorrow (won't know which until this eve - schedule issues), swim Friday, bike/run Saturday and run Sunday. Doubt any of it will be long. My swim this morning was short but felt SO good and helped with the stress too. Hoping for a nice 7 day pink stretch on my training calendar! I see some awesome training going on - way to go! Kenny - want to see pics your new bike!!! |

Veteran 232 Rio Rancho, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins OK, OK, I got the feedback........I will get some pics of the new bike up by tomorrow! I picked it (her????) up from the LBS yesterday afternoon and headed home. By the time I got home it was 4:15pm. I put my daughter (2 years old) down for a nap so I could take a spin around the cul de sac. My wife arrived home at 4:30 and she was laughing at me with my big grin on my face as I rode up and down the street. I then had to quickly do the handover thing with the kids and head into work (on my day off....which I hate....Grrrrrr) for a meeting. By the time I got home it was dark and very late and I didn't get a chance to get a good ride in on my bike. (double Grrrrrr) I didn't get my lights mounted on my bike either so when I got up at 4:30am I headed to the gym before work to get in a quick spin. However on a positive note, I did manage to get in a solid run with the guys from work at lunchtime....They are good at keeping me on track....i.e. dragging me out for a run when I don't feel like it. I will not be home from work tonight till after 8pm, but I am determined to get the lights on my new bike (and take some pics) so I can ride into work in the morning (at about 4:45am.....Yawn...I'm sleepy!) and see what this new baby can really do! (woo hoo.....now I'm awake) So we will see what happens and whether I make it into work in one piece!!!! Also, Chris has told me I need a name for my bike, so please feel free to send on any ideas you guys might have. Is there a generally accepted naming convention for bikes???? I know you won't let me down. |

The problems with all my experiments is that they tend to break a lot of things. That's why I finally settled into software. At least I can fix those things that I break. Mostly.... or hide them... |

Extreme Veteran 470 Horsham, PA | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins hi Pumpkins! I have been unable to post anything due to some issues between me and my internet connection (the internet seems to be winning.....grrrrr). I have also been extremely busy at work and unable to write anything during work hours. However, today is Friday and I am not feeling a 100% commitment to work....so here I am. In spite of my difficulties, I have stayed on task with my training. My weekend plans include another swim, a 3 mi run and a 2 hr long run. What is everyone doing this weekend? This is our chance to catch up. I hope everyone else stays healthy. Keep cheering for us Kim and 1st Timer and get well soon. Have a wonderful weekend team! BE PERSISTENT PUMPKINS AND KEEP ROLLING!

Veteran 228 Greenbelt, MD | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins Hi guys, Sad to say but I'm going to have to drop out of the challenge this month. I've hit the quadfecta of reasons to drop out: injury (achilles tendonitis that's got me limping), illness (strep throat), stress (work is hell), mood (first three plus other things has me pretty bummed out). So, since I don't have a good ETA on when I'll be back to working out (hopefully next week but we'll see) nor how much I'll be able to do, I am going to drop out and not pull you guys down nor experience more stress feeling like I have to finish stuff I can't handle right now But I'll keep an eye on you when I have the chance. Go Pumpkins! |
