What I do for trainer is I put it on universal sports, mute it and toss on my ipod. Then I usually have a set interval workout to do, so I'm just focused on the next 2-10minutes and not the whole or or so I'm on the trainer. Makes it easier to get through the trainer rides.

First week back to normal life of the new year. Now is the time to get right on schedule and make it a routine of getting up a bit earlier to get a morning workout in.

Have at it!

Morning team!

I was up somewhat early for a quick trainer ride. Happy to get it in! Will swim tonight and such. But you're right, training goes so much more smoothly when morning workouts happen. :D

What's going on for everyone?

I am back on a schedule--first goal, Lonestar 70.3 on 25 April; second goal, San Diego Marathon on 6 June.  Despite just laying in bed for a bit, I got up and out of bed and was running by 0500.  It was 28 degrees here, and for us Texans that is just COLD.  Thursday it's supposed to be in the teens!?!? Holy smokes!!

Good job Jen and Hilde for getting up and at 'em! It's time to get faster and stronger!

Well my body is falling apart, though nothing major. Hurt my foot on yesterdays run and I still want to hold out on cycling due to my knee issue from the other day. So I figured I could swim today at least right? Well... no, the pool is closed. :\

I'm sorry but I just had to enjoy this while I can because I know I'll be paying for it in the coming months, regardless of what I say.

Be careful with pain behind your knee.  I strained my Popliteus Muscle (small muscle that runs from just above the calf to just below the hamstring and controls lateral knee rotation).  I rested it for a week tried to run on it and pulled it again. I haven't run in 5 weeks now, lots of ART and Gratson.

This week I'm just getting back into running doing walking for 10 minutes and run for 400 meters at an easy pace, walk for 5 minutes run 400, etc...  If it is the same thing I had don't mess around with it and let it heal.  I was ok to cycle with it though.

You might want to get Workouts in a Binder for Indoor Cycling. They have some great workouts in there!

Lots of good tips coming in. I have done several, more like scores, of hours upon the trainer due to early morning/later night rides and some bad weather days, or workdays where I have to be reachable (how's 5.5 hours on a trainer--it is doable my friend, doable!).  I typically watch TV--for longer rides, action movies are the best for me in that OR any good triathlon on TV cause them I'm really motivated.  Some good rocking music works too!

Well I don't do many trainer rides actually. I bought lights last year to ride in the dark and I'll tough out most weather conditions. :p

morning team - it's another cold one here!

Crea - very jealous of that trip to Florida you're taking. Though, they're complaining about the cold right now.

I got up with a strength session on tap but i didn't feel like getting dressed for the gym so i did a short pilates core video. It's a good workout. Tonight I start some hills for my 30k race training!

I just want all you Northeners to know that it is COLD in Texas too!  Right now it's 24 and on Thursday and Friday the morning temps are supposed to be in the teens... you KNOW we are not used to that, we are such cold wimps!

Our weather right now has been in the single digits or teens all week so anything like the 50's will be well appreciated.  I'll take lots of pictures and bring them back to share!

If you want 50's that looks like want you are going to get in Orlando this weekend.  High's in the 50's, lows in the low-40's.  Should be good running weather for you.  Although you probably were hoping for 70's.

It can be done.  I've done 100 miles on the CompuTrainer before.  I went through 6 episodes of 24 Season 3 from Netflix.  It is one way to catch up on TV.

I am actually good with that weather.  I run better in that.  I am not prepared for 70's though one day of that would be nice!

Yeah, it wasn't optimal or ideal, but it was right after the 5 Nov shootings at Ft. Hood and my MPs and I were on a short leash recall, and I had 100+ miles to do, so I rode away. Can't remember what all I watched, a few movies.

So I got into the pool today after MUCH too long of a hiatus....gotta keep that trend going.  Will be MOST happy when this cold has fully blown over. I can do workouts, but it's definitely making it a little difficult...blah!

Okay--stay hard on the New Year folks--January is where you can get your routine going and set yourself up for the year!

Good morning!

Whoa! We're on page 2 - i wondered where we went. Happy to report that i am doing very well. I was worried that my gym's pool would be crammed with morning swimmers given the new year but this morning it was less busy than before Christmas! YAY!  I wasn't as fast as my monday swim and my left arm was a little creaky (it might be the way i sleep?) for a while but eventually I woke up! haha!

And, i had the second snowy run of the year. Went out for a run in the blowing snow ... earned some hardcore points for that. It's also one of the slowest runs i've done in a very long time. Nothing to be done about it. Conditions wouldn't allow for a reasonable pace for the effort.  I'll be doing tempo on the treadmill tomorrow where I don't have to worry about ice!

All the races seem really far away right now.  As does nice weather and more daylight ...

Right now there are so many mentor groups that you can fall onto the second page if you don't post enough and get bumped up to the top.  Every so often we fall onto that second page.

Exactly! We had fallen down to page 2 of the listing of mentor groups! Sad!
