I accept - No Missed Workouts! February was garbage for me. 1 week of training. I have been consistent for a year though, so I'm hoping I didn't screw myself too much!

No missed workouts challenge is money!  I had my best week of training for this race yet.  And I almost hit 10 miles on my run today, too, but ran out of time due to family commitments.  I'm hoping to hit 10 next week if I can just get moving a bit earlier.

I love recovery weeks I get so rejuvenated.  I can’t wait to hit it hard again this week.  Two weeks of build and then taper time.

I am getting really nervous, being from Oregon the weather has really sucked. cold wet, sand on the roads so I have been doing all my training indoors.  I am hoping to at least get some outside road time in but for February my numbers were:

Bike 17 hours - 229 mi - trainer and spin classes

Run 8.5 hours - 55 miles - all on treadmills

Swim - 21000 yards - never has been an issue

Trying not to miss a day.  but boy I need to get outside.

Don't Sweat it. There are some very good pro's and age groupers that train inside exclusively, and get this only ride outside on race day.  Most People try to get out at least once a week to help with bike handling but it you can't get outside just smoke yourself on the trainer.  I love doing the SpineRvals Dvds by Coach Troy Jacobson.  There are many other workout videos on the market that can help.

PS. I'm an Oregonian Stationed in Colorado.  I dream of making it to retirment and coming home some day.

Good Luck "GO BEAVERS" if you are a Duck disregard above. you're screwed!Cool

I think I am back on track and the calf is healed....  Or at least I cannot recreate the pain /sensation I was having before.  And as much as I don't wish it on anyone, I am comforted in a strange way that there may be others that will not be as prepared as we'd like

It was hard watching fitness slip away, but for once I was smart about letting an injury get better and not pushing it.  Now just need to figure out how to get to the starting line with some modicum of run fitness.

Going to give it a go tomorrow morning with a short flat run, then more ART later in the day

Did the desert tri yesterday, bagging the run.  Swim was good, bike was OK.  4/2 is going to be all about the pacing

Great to see that everyone is staying fired up to get through peak!  We can't get down on ourselves yet, we still have a lot of miles to put in between now and April.

I have my bike and run on target but have to get mentally into this swim.  My pool times are looking good, but has my history has been, they don't match up when I go into open water.  I am expecting a good swim at O-Side though.  I much prefer the in water start to the run in.  I had great success with that style in Arizona.

Came down with something last Tuesday night - sore throat, congestion, achy and chilled all day Wednesday and Thursday.  Made the morning pool and spin workouts, but I was worthless after work and went straight home, trying to get ready for the Desert. Ashamed to say I missed a couple of evening workouts right after starting the challenge, so I'm out.

Starting to feel better now tho.  Monday is usually an off day, so hoping to get back to spin / track tomorrow.

Hope everyone had a good training weekend!

Have wetsuit - will travel.

I want to do my next three Sunday long swims in open water and am opening it up to anyone who wants to join me.  We can pick the best beach and time that works each week.  I can also (probably) switch my swim to Saturday if that works better for someone.  So I'll just put my schedule out here and if anyone is welcome to jump on it they want.

3/13 - 3k total. 300m warm up, 2400m moderate swim, 300m cool down

3/20 - 2.5k total.  300m warm up, 1.2 mile time trial, 300m cool down

3/27 - 2.6k total. 300m warm up, 2k moderate swim, 300m cool down

Swimming past the breakers will probably be considered the warm up and then swim the main set across.

Anywhere between Oxnard and Huntington Beach can work for me.  Although it's possible that the Time Trial on 3/20 could be in Oceanside on the beach side of the harbor.  Which leads into my other invitation...

I still want to get on the bike and run course and am planning on doing so on March 19th.  I know that some of you are interested in this too, so lets lock down the details.  I'm scheduled to brick a 2hr ride with a 50 minute run both at moderate pace.  I guess we'll have to finish the ride and lock our bikes in our cars before heading out for the run.  I think for last time we were planning on around 10am or so.  I hope the weather is nice to us for this attempt.  If the same people that are around for this are interested in doing an open water swim the next day then I can stay in town and we can swim sometime on Sunday.

I'm in for the preview brick!  10:00 on the 19th should work.  Was planning on volunteering at the TCSD club race that morning, but I should be able to get out of there by 9:00 and head up to meet you near the harbor - maybe the lots where we'll be parking on race morning?  And if you're interested, we could do a Cove swim on Sunday.

Looks like I am back on track...  yet again.  After ART today, ran 3 on the treadmill.  Very easy but no pain during, and no pain now, about 4 hours later.  Last week I ran 3 and had some pain within an hour.  So hopefully over the latest hurdle.  Which is, after all, what long course racing is all about, having obstacles thrown up, and figuring out how to get around them.  Good lessons in patience and perspective.

We'll see what the morning brings, as that is the ultimate test.

is this the same place as Alamitos Bay/Naples?

Here's a map on the Naples Island Swim site, Bayshore Aquatic Park.  The buoys are set a certain distance apart, but I can't recall the distance.   Looks like from gmaps, following the buoys from the pier to the bridge off to the left and back is about .5 miles?

Yes Chris, that is the place. Parking on Ocean Blvd is free if you can get it, and there are plenty of metered lots around. Water temp is pretty good right now (58-59ish) and water quality is actually pretty good as well. I've always swam the dock to the last buoy near the bridge and figured it to be just under 500 yards, and the swim times seem to match up. I'd like to come out on Saturday, but have family/kid functions to attend. This is where I live and grew up, let me know if you all have any questions about routes/restaurants etc. See you all out there.

Destroyer - Good news on the approval!  I just wanted to be sure that everyone knew that the "Cove" I mentioned is in La Jolla, about 30 minutes south of Oceanside.  It's been mentioned from time to time on this thread (and touted as "World Class" by one stellar swimmer, Chris M).  If you were planning on sticking closer to the race location, the Cove may not work out for the 20th.  Of course, we can't swim in the harbor where the race will be held, but I don't think there's any reason why we couldn't swim on the ocean side.  If you can make the drive, the Cove is where it's at!  You can swim 1/2, 1, 2 or 3 mile courses.

I may be in for the 19th.  Although I cannot hang with you guys on the bike.  I have done Pendleton a few times from the south, and a few times from the north, so I am well familiar with it

I know we're planning on doing our own thing, but one of the guys from the Tri Club of SD has been putting on a preview workout for the last few years.  This year it's the 19th.  They try to get volunteers to watch the "transition" area and they swim on the ocean side.  Maybe I'll volunteer to keep an eye on stuff until we start.  Some good juju never hurts.

Shoot!  I am out of town for the next two weekends.    I need to get out in the open water but hate going alone.

I'm on top of it.  I already have a place to stay in La Jolla.  What time do we want to meet up for the Brick?  I had said 10, but if you're volunteering at a race a later time would give me more time to get down there as well.

And Chris, I don't need to blow out this ride so don't shy away in fear of getting dropped.

I might be in for the 19th as well. I'm actually going out with some folks this weekend to do a brick workout including parts of the bike course, but would definitely be interested in doing it on the 19th as well.
