RDO on Friday. Short 50min ride then the day shopping with my wife. I think that should be counted as a workout. Did a sprint Tri on Saturday at Cottesloe Beach in Perth. For those that have not heard our government is placing drum lines with baited hooks to catch any shark over 3m. Its caused huge protests and other things. Any way stand on the beach waiting to start and see the boat pull up to the drum line is not the best way to start a beach race. Considering the negative thoughts in my head it all went well. There is a saying here that to avoid a shark attack swim with a fatter friend. Thankfully there was a few large then me on Saturday.

In May when I start swimming in the lake again and think about complaining because the water is 50 F. I will think of you and remember at least nothing here can eat me, or sting me or maim me. It would take a lot for me to keep from bailing as soon as the boat pulled up. admittedly my greater fear is Jelly Fish, I saw a guy get stung in the eye when I was in the Coast Guard. The freakiest thing I have ever seen.

You know they once found a Bull Shark in the Chicago River...swam up from the Gulf via the Mississippi...you never know Jim. That coupled with the possibility Asian Carp and 4 foot long northern pikes...

Its mostly the cormorants that freak me out. They are evil looking birds, and it didn't help having one land next to me while I was swimming last year. My daughter stepped on one that was fishing underwater off the beach. Both incidents resulted in minor freak outs. The Great Lakes carp are big enough and kind of throw you when you swim up on one of those. They look like deadhead logs until you get close.

HI All, Wondered if you still had an opening for this group. I'm brand new to tri and thought this would be a great place to get some helpful advice and tips. I read through a couple pages but haven't had time to read through all your banter. Let me know if you're open to having a new guy come on board. I'll post some info later. Thanks

Nice Choice! Sea, flatwater, or whitewater? I used to be big into whitewater and would paddle 6 or 7 days a week during run off. I've padded a little in NZ- which was awesome.

Good Job Mark.
Well my weekend has started. Hoping to get a good ride in this afternoon. 1.30pm here, so a few hours would be good. Small sprint tri tomorrow with my mates.
Wishing everyone a good week end and race or train hard!!!

Kate, salt water, but not the ocean, we have a very vast network of canals/lakes here and it's just easier this way. I used to go out in the ocean, but sometimes it was bordering on silly (got rescued 2x... kayak overturned and they thought I was in trouble. I wasn't, but it didn't look good).
I agree, kayaking is fun, NZ would an awesome place to do it. And for skiing too!

Thanks Matthew, have a great weekend, hopefully the weather is not too harsh on you!
Gabe, thanks! I have an idea... maybe we should start trading points?

Swim today, barely managed after work with all this Valentine's hype and work.
