Expert 1148 NW Suburbs, Illinois | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry That is so ironic that you mention Guiness. Because I just got off the phone with the people from Guiness (the world record book people). And they were inquiring about our SOR team. Something about how they were looking at our team's track record in races, and they felt they were about to witness the greatest ensemble ever put together at an HIM. They figure we will break all the team speed records in their book, and they wanted to be present when this happened. I thought this to be a pretty good compliment. Kind of crazy. I asked him if they would be going to Steelhead, as well, and he simply replied, "No". So, just thought I would get you the update, since you brought it up. |

Scott, you did schedule them BEFORE the Katie Couric interview, right? She wants to use a shot of us being interviewed by them in her tease for the segment. |

I was talking to my friend who was born and raised in Michagan. I asked him why did Michagan want upper Michagan and not leave it for wisconsin. I heard there is nothing but crime over there. My friend responded there is no crime there like there is in benton harbor. I was like WHAT. I made me repeat it several times. Turns out team SOR does not have to even try to bet Stealhead because well Stealhead are all going to have to run the bike course after there bikes are stolen. |

Yet Sadly, Team Steelhead's bike splits will STILL be faster than SOR's. |

Expert 986 Michiana | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry I know its late notice, but this just got organized. Myself and some Triple Threat (South Bend based Tri-club) members are meeting at Steelhead race site tomorrow morning (6/30) to ride the course. Meeting at Jean Klock Park at 8:30am and departing by 9:00. All are welcome. There should be 2-3 different pace groups. Also, some are planning to run 4-6 miles of the course immediately following ride. |

Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry Random question for my fellow Team Steelhead types: Is anyone coming from East PA and would be willing to take my bike with them back so I can get it the following weekend. Basically, I'm doing Steelman Olympic Triathlon in the Lehigh Valley Area on the 12th and would like to not have to ship my bike up there. Thanks! |

Expert 1148 NW Suburbs, Illinois | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry OK - realizing that there was some good debate on what the scoring system should be, and also realizing that nobody has time to go back and look at the pros/cons of each, and finally realizing that there is no perfect system. I say we go with the average of all the participants, subtracting the fastest/slowest score for each team. I would suggest maybe subtracting more, but that seems to be a good sampling. And no arguments about every score not counting, b/c they will (i.e. if you are the fastest then you allow the 2nd fastest time to count, as opposed to it not counting if you weren't there). I will put together a spreadsheet of all the SOR racers, and someone from steelhead should do the same. You guys should know the time to beat by the time your race comes along so that should be fun for you. Of course, until you see how low it really is (couldn't be too serious for too long). Since DNFs are always a possibility, I say we just drop those out. No way to really figure it out, and if someone has trained for an HIM, a DNF is usually an injury, equipment, weather, or something we can't control.... So, there it is. Lets just do it and have fun! |

Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry I think that's a great way to doing it. But I think we should add some bonus time (or rather take off) for a PR. Let's say 2 min off of your time (in the averaging) if you PR. |

But I think we should add some bonus time (or rather take off) for a PR. Let's say 2 min off of your time (in the averaging) if you PR. Can't do that as there are too many of us doing it for the first time. We'll all PR. It will come down to a battle of who has the most first timers. Schmize - I can't believe you want my time to be dropped so badly. Just kidding. I like your scoring system too. Oh, and the fact that you will do the work. I sent you the spreadsheet I put together. I have also sent it to birkierunner so you too can fight over who does the labor. In fact, you'll probably both have time to figure it out waiting for me to finish on Sunday. |

I don't understand the logic and the rationale/desire for dropping fastest/slowest Of course you'd ask that. I would too if I were our fastest and my time was going to be "dropped" (assuming the race goes as expected for all of us). My guess would be that it takes out any extremes either way for either team so that we get a more representative average. Works for me, but at this point I couldn't care less about this challenge. I'm so stoked for this weekend and meeting everyone and doing this race that this challenge is way low on my radar screen. |

Why oh why did I bother signing up Cylesdale? I can not win either way. non Cylesdale gives me 18 more minutes. |
