I have a feeling the PPE's will be darn close to 100% by the end!  Keep up the good running!  I'd up my goal, but don't feel like the pressure right now. I will keep running anyway.  It is a pretty day here, hopefully life will let me outside!

^^Woohoo! sooo close.

I'm only 3 miles away from my goal, and that should be wee buns in the next couple of days. I'm going to keep running just to see what my monthly total ends up being, but I'm going to have to can the HR data because I'm getting a tattoo on my ribs next week (eek!) and can't wear it. boo.

If we win this, or at least close to winning it. I'm having Nutella and I'm NOT going to feel guilty one bit about it. I've DOUBLED my miles this month on something that I despised doing but am now beginning to love.

A tattoo on your ribs?!?! What's it of?

Well, it requires a bit of explanation. I'm getting a tattoo of a salmon with a ring it its mouth, based off of this:

The city crest of Glasgow. The crest is based on the founding story of Glasgow/the life of St. Mungo (Kentigern).
The story of the life of St Kentigern is vague and of the many legends the following is generally accepted. He was born at Culross on the north shore of the Firth of Forth in the early years of the sixth century, the son of Urien, Prince of Cumbria, and Thenew, daughter of the King of Lothian. He was educated and trained as a priest of the Celtic Church at the monastery of St Serf at Culross, Fife. The name Kentigern means 'High Lord' but St Serf was very fond of him and called him Mungo, meaning "my dear friend". In about 550 Mungo finished his training and went to the house of a holy man named Fergus at Kernach. Fergus died the night he arrived and Mungo placed his body on a cart yoked by two wild bulls commanding them to convey it to the place ordained by the Lord. They stopped at Cathures where Fergus was buried and Mungo established a church. Mungo refered to this spot as 'Glasgu' or the beloved green place. This became Glasgow and the church developed into Glasgow Cathedral. Mungo lived an ascetic and holy life until his death in 603. He was canonised and became the patron saint of Glasgow with a feast day on 13 January.

'Here's the Bird that never flew' - the wild robin which St Serf tamed. It was accidentally killed by some of his disciples who blamed it on Mungo. He took the dead bird in his hands and prayed, restoring it to life, whereupon it flew to its master. 'Here's the Bell that never rang' - the bell may have been given to St Mungo by the Pope but there is no definite information as to how he obtained it. By the fifteenth century St Mungo's handbell had become a notable Glasgow symbol. Handbells were common in the Celtic church and were used by Holy men to call the flock to worship. In 1450, John Stewart, "the first provost that was in Glasgow", left, as did many others, an endowment to have the bell tolled throughout the city to call the inhabitants to pray for his soul. The fate of the original bell is unknown although it was known still to exist in 1578. A replacement was purchased by Town Magistrates in 1641 and this bell is still in the People's Palace Museum.

'Here's the Tree that never grew' - the tree is now depicted as an oak but it started in the legend as a hazel branch. As a boy in the monastery Mungo was left in charge of the holy fire in the refectory. He fell asleep and some of the other boys, being envious of him, put out the fire. When he woke and found what had happened, Mungo broke off some frozen branches from a hazel tree and caused them to burst into flames by praying over them.

'Here's the Fish that never swam' - the fish with a ring in its mouth is a salmon and the ring was a present from Hydderch Hael, King of Cadzow, to his Queen, Languoreth. The Queen gave the ring to a knight and the King, suspecting an intrigue, took it from him while he slept during a hunting party and threw it into the River Clyde. On returning home the King demanded the ring and threatened Languoreth with death if she could not produce it. The Queen appealed to the knight who, of course, could not help and then confessed to St Mungo who sent one of his monks to fish in the river, instructing him to bring back the first fish caught. This was done and St Mungo extracted the ring from its mouth.

The basic idea is that I'm going to have 3 tattoos that eventually connect to each other: one for Glasgow, one for Belfast, one for Pittsburgh. Basically, I'm getting reminders/markers of the last three years of my life and the events and lessons therein. So the fish will be coming around my side from back to front, ending below my boobs. I'm having them done in the city they represent, so just the Glasgow one right now. I've never been tattooed before, so this is sort of exciting/stressful at the same time.

Wow Tracey, that's awesome!  I like tattoos that have personal meaning.

After the pain threshold of training, I'm sure you'll be fine with the tattoo.

Hey Purple Peeps, just a quick update:
Got back from a nice run in the rain and realized that with this run I have DOUBLED my previous monthly max for miles of running. September had been my all time high with 37, and right now I'm standing on over 75, with still more to go. Pretty nice. Hope everyone is having a happy Friday.

Well PPEs I hope you all had a great weekend!

I just polished off my goal, as well as a few other milestones:

  1. My longest run ever - 1/2 marathon (unofficially 2:38)
  2. My fastest longest run ever - averaging 12:03/mile
  3. Tripled my usual running time and distance for the month

And with that, I'm taking the rest of the month off!  How did everyone else's races go this weekend?

Happy Halloween!!!

~Kendra

Hey Medusa - love the photos! And you really look like the Nanny!

Here's my run info for this past week:

Miles for week- 12.28

Miles for Month: 46.73

Goal: 48

Likely will go over 50 -- but whatever the final number is - its way higher than I've ever run before! Thanks to you peeps!

Hey all, checking in with this week's numbers.
I ran 23.35 miles this week, for a total this month of 82.35 miles. That means I have 11.65 miles left to crank out, and with 12 miles scheduled over the next three days, it looks like I'm going to make my goal. Thanks so much for all the inspires, they've really helped.
Soooo, now for my happy news:
I ran a PR today at my 5k!!! 29:11 is the unofficial time (from my Garmin) but I know the official time is close. That's 2:16 faster than my previous PR, and over 6 minutes faster than when I ran the same race last year. I know I wouldn't have been able to run such a great race a month ago; all the credit goes to the miles put in during October. So again, thanks Purple Peeps, couldn't have done it without all of you.

Added 10.22 for the week. Should give me 63.1 for the month. I don't think I will get any more run miles in for the month...at least nothing too long.

Thanks for the running support this past month!

Here is the report from my mountain bike race this past weekend.

Congrats on the races you two!

And, Leslie, what loverly pictures! Super Leslie scares me just a little bit.

My total for last week is 5.6 which brings me to a total of 25.2 miles for the month. Goal reached, woohoo! That is a record month for me, and I can tell you without this bunch I would not have made it. I am sorry I have been so lax on the inspires. I am moving this week and things have been just a bit hectic... just a lil bit.

As for the rest of you finishing up miles this week, go kick some !

Good eve all PPE's,

I just wanted to Thank each and everyone of you. Without your help I would not be saying "I have just run over 114 miles this month!!" I have completed my goal this morning and still will run tomorrow and Wed. But I have to admit that a few times I would not have run as far or at all if I didn't want to let you all down.  So THANK YOU!! Well I have a dinner date with my wonderful Hubby so I had best go shower so we can go. Good Night All

Chris
