That is one of the reason's Microsoft is such a great Company...  No copays, no nada... 100% covered...

Steve:

I take it you work for Microsoft. I used to work for one of the law firms that represented them. I remember goign to Remond and meeting with inventors. everything you could want was there so you had no reason to leave the office. Food, games, etc... What do you do there?

Doug

Wifey works there as a PM... I just piggyback her insurance...

For your eating I would say don't change your habits too much and definitely nothing new. Have a good meal about 3 to 4 hours before the race and then water. Maybe a gatorade half hour before you race. A lot of pre-race nutrition and hydration will depend on how far you are racing. I will be doing very little pre race extra stuff as it is a very short one for me. You should be drinking lots of wate now. You need to hydrate days before a race and not try and do it on race day.

15 laps in a 25 m pool will give you 410 yds.

I use a frame pump on my bike. Very small and light weight. I was going to say I have never had to use it but if I did that I know I would have a blowout on the course on Sunday so I woon't say it.

I hada PB in the pool last night. Put on my wet suit and did a 5:45 for 400 yds. My best time before that was the 6:40. I put on my wet suit for a trial run and wow did it ever come through. I did find that my arms were more tired than swimming without the suit though. I guess I need to HTFU with my arms.

Doing a TAT or super sprint on Sunday.

Nice job!

TrevorC - 2009-06-04 9:03 AM Wow looks yesterday was a good day to miss on the group board. All about comparing pictures of other guys!! Good thing Linda jumped in and salvaged the day!!

Ya Sarah the weather doesnt look that great on Saturday for sure. But from I've heard with that Triathlon down there, its a blast. It is a massive, massive tri with people starting all day long. If it is chilly, at least your starting in ther afternoon and not one of the early birds when it'll be chilly on the bike.

I'm getting a little panicky actually....I have my 1st OWS on Sunday..(its supposed to be warmer on Sunday). And start time isn't until 10 AM. whewww.
We are heading out of town tomorrow AM to get up there, 3hrs drive. Buying myself a neoprene cap after work today to help with the coldness. And I'm taking Tracy's advice, and I'm not going to pee until Sunday morning, then let it all go in the suit!!! The plan is to try out the water friday night, maybe saturday as it is a community lake, but there are letting us all in to check it out prior to Sunday.

So OWS swim advice?

If you are worried about a 1.64 yard swim then maybe triathlon isn't your game.  RaceLink

Relax big guy, you are gonna do great.

It's not the 1.6 that I worried about, its once you round the buoy for that final 0.04 yds..Thats when it'll get tough. My goal is to do the swim in 10 seconds, so we'll see. Tha's funny, I never noticed that on the race link before.
If I havent said it yet in the group forums, John is smart. Plain and simple!

Kick butt this weekend Mr. Mooseman!!! The back holding out still?

Good luck this weekend to everyone and thanks for all of the advice on the CO2/pump stuff.  That xlab wing thing looks cool, but I think I'll go with the little handheld thing for now.

so how is this for a predicament.......
After work i need to go pick up a neoprene hat for the swim.
Then I'm off to an industry poker tournament. Starts at 5pm..Dinner break at 6:30.
I had signed up a while ago for a 4 class Tri specific swim course. Starts tonight at 7:30.
See the predicament.....I could win about 2k if I won the poker tourney.
The plan is so push all-in multiple times prior to dinner break to double up...If I lose out, then swim it is!!
Life is so unfair sometimes.....Cool

To all... Have a great weekend.  I am taking another Friday off to go play on the other side of the state (with no access to internet!).... Good luck to all those racing and stay relaxed.  Once you are out of the water it is all downhill from there.  You are prepared for success.  I can't wait to read all the stories....

John I will be thinking of you as I suck down a few cold ones starting at about 1000am tomorrow morning... Good "TAPER" for me heh?

tahrens - 2009-06-04 11:06 AM They do make CO2 cartidges that have little "condoms" to protect you from the cold.  Here is an example of one from REI.  I carry 2 cartidges, spare tire, levers and patches.

and the condoms???? you really are ready for anything

Good luck!  Since I only have 2 OWS I have limited experience but what helped me on the 2nd one is take a test swim/warm-up before your wave, taking a breath every other stroke and try to relax.  Also I found it hard to pee in my suit.  I guess you can say i had stage freight or something.  I ended-up holding it the entire race..  You're going to great.  Have fun.

I hope all racers have a lot of fun and kick some butt out there.

I did my last OWS tonight in preparation for Sunday.  Definitely left it on a high note.  Swam a little over a mile, the vast majority continious.  I just kept telling myself to calm down and breathe when I started getting worked up over waves crashing around me.  I am slower than molasses in January so I have some work to do on that front, but all is good.

Since this is not an A race for me, I have two primary goals on Sunday--make the swim comfortable and relaxed and practice fueling on the bike for a strong run.  What are other people's goals?

Before back issues goal was sub 30 min swim, 20+ on bike, and sub 9 for run.  Now goal is to finish upright.

1. Switch helmets w. the wife for the race.  Pink and the blue Planet X would be awesome.

2. Why is Drew running away from you?

3. Your children are awesome!  I see Gabriella and June are both members of the chunky leg club,  I love squeezing em' and she get's so mad at me..."stop it daddy!".

4. Go pee in the lake!  HAVE FUN!!!!

So the weather forecast for my race on Saturday has changed.
Here is how it looks:
Cloudy rain/snow mix
High of 3 degrees celsius, low of 1
100% chance of precipitation
20-30mm of rain and 5-10cm of snow

Its on June 6th! And today at the location of the race it was 20 degrees.  The weather in this province is crazy.  Ive only been living here for a year and it is hard to get used to all the ups and downs (like snow in June).  Im hoping the forecast improves!!!!

Has anyone else noticed the trend in avatar photos?  The women seem to be doing the wetsuit look while the men are going aero on the bike. For reference see Trevor, Stan and Roni's new photos.

Sarah, after that weather report I think you'll be a popsicle!!!  Take the extra time in transistion and put lots of clothes on!!!!!  Don't forget to cover ears and toes booties are a beautiful thing.

Have you ever thought about MOVING?   Seriously, I can't imagine having to deal with that, although right now I am trying to get out and get my run in early before it gets too HOT.
