4 hour ride/45 minute run brick tomorrow.  1 hour bike and 2 hour run on Sunday.  Sunday night I am packing my bike up ready to ship on Monday.  Wont ride again until Thursday afternoon in Kentucky!!!!

I am going to focus more on swimming.  I'm going to be sure to swim every other day until the race. Nothing hard, just want to be sure I have that "feel" for the water.  For whatever reason, if I am out of the water too much, I don't grab the water like I would like.

Best of luck to all of you that are injured or sick.  Focus on the rehab and not on the training that you are missing.

In 2 weeks we will all be together!

Yell Depressed, angry and driving my husband crazy!!!

I started with a slight headcold that turned into a borderline pneumonia...shortness of breath, weak, fever of 102...ahhhhh went to the doc..on antibiotics and rest..YES...rest...not sure if I can do this race eventhough I have been doing all the training....

what to do...what to do... I know if the race was this weekend for sure I would not survive it!!

Any thoughts? ideas? I guess if I can't well...there will be more but it is so upsetting!!!

You still have plenty of time to get well, let the antibiotics run their course and rest! Don't train, just rest, then you will be illness free for the big race. The worst thing you could do it try to train and make it worse. Keep coughing up the green stuff, try to get as much of it out of your lungs as possible.

Who is in for the UNDERPANTS RUN? Information from the IAMTRI group below...

Saturday, August 27th (11am)  Louisville Underpants Charity Run at The Belle of Louisville (behind Galt House)

The run benefits the Blazeman Foundation (Joe Blais cause and the War on ALS).  Runners meet at the Belle of Louisville on the River behind the Galt House (most show up around 10:30/10:45am for the 11am run).  Run is a simple, easy 1.5 mile (total distance) out and back along the River and around the transition area.  Runners (or fans/attendees) just contribute what they want to the cause/charity.  Most throw in $5 or $10 but that is your choice.  Last year we had about 250 runners......It is a hoot.  Prizes are awarded for things like most creative outfit, best dressed, largest team, etc....

We usually get TV coverage from one of the local stations and Kevin will have a DJ there.  There will also be cold bottled water at the finish.  It is a lot of fun and a chance to let you hair down a bit before the focus of Saturday afternoon/evening and the big race on Sunday. Hope you'll join in the fun!

I will be there with the hubby and 5 kids!  This is a great way to make the family feel part of the event!

Thanks RocketMan-I am trying to keep positive.   It's the mental part of thinking of I could get a injury so close to finish that would keep me from completing the race.

Fesslern-I hear you and feel your pain.  My last long run was on July 31 and then had a couple of good runs the next week.  I am officially shutting it down from running due to calf strain until race day.  I have had my coach,  Rocket man, and another person who has run over 20 marathons tell me that I should be fine and not to worry.   I trust their info, but the not worry part is hard.  Hopefully, I have banked enough to get me to the end.  Person-who ran over 20 marathons told me of the time that she stopped activity all together 2 weeks prior to her marathon and to this day it's still her best time

Plan: 2-mile OWS this eve, 70-mile ride w/10-mile T-run Sat, 2-hour trail run and 2-mile OWS Sun.

btw...Did Bikram yoga for the first time this morning.  What a sweatfest!  105-degrees for 90-minutes - much hotter than the other "heated" hour-long yoga classes I've taken.  I didn't feel faint or dizzy, but it was definitely a shock to the system.  I paid for an introductory week, so I'm going to try and take advantage of as many classes as possible.  Probably every morning next week.

Did a 13.1 mile run at planned IM marathon pace last night.  Felt pretty easy.  I wanted to try to work on holding back and feeling like I *could* be running faster - not racing.  I'm sure it's going to feel much different on race day.

That sounds like my normal Wednesday night bike ride as of late

jhouse4 - 2011-08-12 2:57 PM athlete guide is up

http://ironmanlouisville.com/athletes/athlete-guide/

New swim line up rules:

Swim Start Line
Athletes must be bodymarked and have their timing
chip, swim cap and swim goggles before getting in the
swim start line. ONLY ATHLETES can line up at the swim
start after bodymarking at 5 a.m. Family members and
friends are NOT ALLOWED to hold spots for athletes. Any
family member or friend holding a spot will be asked to
step out of the line and the associated athlete(s) will
have to go to the back of the line. This is for the safety
and protection of the athletes and to get all athletes in
the water as quickly as possible.

Based on the swim start rules, who is going to take my t-shirt and flip flops prior to the race.  And what about if I need to use the bathroom?  Am I supposed to pee myself then, too?  I say "too" because i plan on it while in the river anyway.  I mean, I will pee myself in line if that is the rule, but... Laughing

I think my strategy is going to be to not rush getting in line.  I'm not concerned about any of the cut off times so what's the big deal?  Navigating my way through a few thousand swimmers may add an additional 5 minutes or so to my swim time, but that really isn' that big of a deal.

Thanks lisac.
I wonder if they'll police the participants that hold places for their friends and training partners also. I agree with other posts....I'll get there when I get there. Not like I won't be up early from insomnia anyway. I may be walking around at 3am with my oatmeal and Ensure looking lost and scared..Ha!

Getting my bike race-ready this weekend...My favorite activity. It's worth more than my car now. Maybe I should insure it...random thoughts.

Is it too late to scratch my nutrition plan. I plan on hooking myself up to an IV and running a Liter per hour during the bike. Also, I may run carrying a giant umbrella for shade...it may slow me down a little but if anyone wants to stop by I'll give them a little shade for a few blocks.

Ok, That's all I got today, Happy Tapering

Good question... can one of you veterans tell us where the Morning Clothes drop bag site is? Is is right near the docks (so you end up carrying your bag with you right up until you jump in?) or is it totally separated from the swim start and line?

I'm wondering how strict they will be... I mean, can my cheerleaders even come say "hi" to me in line or will I be booted to the back?

As fun at it sounds, I won't be attending the underpants run. After losing 140 pounds and not being able to get plastic surgery, I am one you DON'T want to see in underpants, its hard enough keeping all the excess skin tucked into my tri tops and tri shorts.

Hey, all!  I haven't read the Athlete's Guide though it's in my e-mail inbox and on my must-read list for this weekend.  Is it possible to get body marked before 5am?  I mean, I don't really need to check anything in Sunday a.m., and I would love every extra minute I can round up by being early in the swim line.  Just curious if there's an "official" body-marking station or whatever.  Like others have said, I'm wondering if my wife can stay a safe distance away but close enough to grab my warm-ups or if there's some sort of"restraining order" that means she needs to stay at least 100 feet away.; - )

Sat: 45 min ride / 2 to 3-hour run, depending on the weather, etc.

Sun: 90 - 100 mile ride, again, weather permitting / 30 min run ....

then the tapering process begins ... aahhhh ....

Last year volunteers walked the line picking up the bags as you stood in line.

Amy- Love it. ...and for all intents and purposes. Me too. Two weeks to stay in touch with swimming and cycling (and running if I was doing that), but resting, healing, making lists, checking them off, and it's all good.

ANYONE- Road to Ironman Louisville, Episode 15...COMING SOON.

Volunteered at the Millennium Triathlon in Grand Rapids, MI this morning. Body marked a lot of people, but the event ended up be called due to weather. It was a tough call for the organizers to make, but it had to be done.

Along these lines, imagine your day...repeatedly. Imagine it with reasonable temperatures and good weather.

Unless you were one of those earlier who want rain...please refrain and adjust your image to cloudy.

I hear you... I keep wondering "WHERE IS MAH TAPER!?" as I look at the plan my coach laid out. I did get a few days off this week but still some pretty sporty workouts for 3 weeks out. I suppose that's what I pay him the big bucks for! And after today's (2-hour) run and feeling AMAZING and ON FIRE, I realized he just might know what he's doing.

After tomorrow (3hr ride +45min brick run), I'm golden.
