I know of at least one stud racing this weekend and it's going to be quite a show!  Anyone else ready to give it 110%?  If so, spill the details!

If you're not racing, how're you holding up so far this season?  mentally? physically?  what do you need help with?

I'm racing a marathon in Seattle this weekend! My goal is BQ minus enough minutes to actually get in, and my plan is to stick to a nice steady pace all the way through. The weather is looking awesome: 53F at the start and high of 61F. It will probably rain, but I'll take rain over heat any day!

Good luck to all the other racers, and happy training to everyone else!

Go Julia! You're running has been looking great, at the end of each I've been pleased with my totals until seeing how much you've run! Hope you get your BQ!

No racing here.  I am holding up well and back into my training again.  The swim is still the kicker for me and I will continue working with my coach to get my breathing right.  Many thanks to Kim for the tips she sent.

Good luck to those of you racing this weekend....Chet, Julia, Dino, Jayne, Scott, and Doug.

And kudos to David and Tiana for those charity rides.

Just checking in. I haven't had much internet access the last few days. Checked in and have my chip. Drove the course ( 6 short steep hills on the bike but pretty) and swam in the lake. Last bike ride today and seems dialed. Really have no time goals for this race. Would love a solid run. Word of CdA is smooth! Thanks everyone for all the support! This MG is awesome.

i think of of the most indescribable elements of ironman is the few days before the race. so many thoughts going on, yet at the same time so calm.  there is no way to describe it unless you've been there.  been there putting the miles in, been there sacrificing family time, been there on a 4+ hour trainer ride, been there questioning the plan, etc...  taper is over, the wrist band is on, nothing left to do but step up to the line on sunday and smile knowing its time.  here we go.

go f'ing get it man.

Yeah, what he said.  I have no point of reference for this, but very well described.  Have a great time, Chet.  We'll be waiting to hear about it when you return.

PS ... Good read, Kyla.  Thanx for sharing.

Totally. The energy is amazing, inspiring, and incredible. It feels like you have arrived "home," after putting in so many lonely hours, with so many questions, so much soul-searching, so many sacrifices... You know most of the people there with their wristbands have done the same, and you share that common journey. Thinking about just those couple of days almost makes me wanna do it again. Almost. Instead we'll live vicariously through those people who are going the distance this year. You know who you are!!

Have great races this weekend, peeps!! You are inspiringly awesome!!!

Pretty much they nailed it...man, that peaceful feeling those few days before when you have done all you can and you can do no more...it is incredible...the race is your reward. So psyched for you Chet! Find that strong place where your big heart resides and relish the whole day! Cannot Wait!

Chet- Enjoy it!  Sounds absolutely amazing.  Looking forward to following your day.

Good luck to all our other racers, Jayne, Doug, Dino, Tiana!

Julia- Kick some serious BQ a$$!

After more than a year of hemming and hawing I FINALLY got enough courage to bike commute into work today.  It ended up being a great ride in with minor traffic issues.  Hoping this will become a regular thing.

One funny (?) thing did happen to me on the ride in.  A portion of my ride is through some residential farmland.  All of a sudden a large buck darted out of some brush, haulin' across the road, and passed probably 15 ft in front of me.  Beautiful animal with a large set of antlers on him.  I was transfixed by him as I watched cruise through the field.  Just thankful he didn't hit me!!!

Hey guys, sorry I've been absent for awhile.  Honestly I haven't had much positive to say lately.  My season is pretty much crap at this point.  Had one good race, got sick and haven't been able to come back to good form since.  Always fun to drop a ton of cash on a bike and DNF every race since I bought it.

Just had a talk with my coach yesterday and he suggested 2 full weeks off the bike, and by then hopefully I'll be ready to go and get started to get in shape for cross season.

I'll probably do a bit more running and gasp, maybe even some swimming over the 2 weeks to stay in shape.  Playing in a masters lacrosse league this summer so I've been running, since my actual ability to run will be my one asset since I've only coached 1 season of U9 lacrosse, should be interesting : )

I have also been absent in here!  My family is keeping me busy, and lots going on with my daughter, but I am going to use my training to keep me focused and mentally good!

I am actually racing this weekend, and have been trying to keep up with my training!  It is just a local sprint of 300 people time trial race.  They are starting in waves of 3 by bib number, and it's a good thing, because I went last night to pick up my packet and I pulled number 300! LOL

I am sorry to hear that others have had some rough times this season, and I wish you the best!  I also promise to be more active in here.  This is the most amazing group with the best support I could ask for!

Good Luck this weekend to all those racing!

So my struggles 'running' for the past 2 or so months have been pretty well documented here. It's been very, very frustrating to say the least. Physio/ART/ and a bit of chiro mixed in have got me moving and back swimming and biking - back to 95% there for a month or so.  But every time I've tried to run i felt 'pain'. I've ran 5 or 6 times in the past two months, and every time it 'hurt.' I ran my Oly on the weekend with a lombar backbrace thingy on, shuffling and it still 'hurt.' No way I could run 26.2 miles with that thing on and that pain. I've been getting worried about entertaining the thought of bailing out of IMC. I don't want to go into IMC and have to walk it. I know some people would do that, but I don't feel like I need to prove it to myself to get off the bike and walk for 8 hours.

Enter this:

http://www.serola.net/New-Belt/new-serola-sacroiliac-belt.html

I ran 13k yesterday PAINFREE! Totally a short term solution to what the real problem is, but things aren't going to be improving much over the next two months with training. Wearing it has been night and day. Even every day life. After sitting at my desk for an hour then standing up, my lower back would feel so incredibly tight. I put this baby on, and no issue. It does feel kind of funny the first time putting it on, and they key is to put on correct.

Feeling 3000% better about IMC now. Been pretty down in the dumps the last few months with running taken away. Hopefully this gets to me to the start line in one piece and more importantly the finish line on August 26.

Hey MG - thanks for all the well wishes and inspires! They are much appreciated, especially as the nerves set in. I had a wonderful surprise when I arrived in Seattle this morning: my cousin came out from NM to run the marathon, too! Very fun to see her, and to do this race together.

Tony - I'm sorry you've been having such a tough season. Be patient and take care of yourself, it will get better!

Trevor - Great to hear you found something that helps with your back. Don't go out and overdo it!

Scott - Congratulations to you and to your daughter on your runs!

Chet - Have a great day out there on Sunday! You are so super well-prepared.

Happy racing/training, everyone!
