Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by brigby1 Originally posted by popsracer Aside from the mechanical/technology issues, I hate the idea of the intrusive nature of these things. While some of the official footage of some events I have been is pretty cool I do not want one buzzing along or around my immediate vicinity. It's like folks that blast music from small external speakers during a race. If you want to listen to music fine, use your headphones but I don't want to have to listen to it. If you want to selfie yourself during a race have someone snap your picture. A race should not be a personal multi-media show that infringes and distorts others peoples experience. Pheww!!! Definitely agree with that. There will always be some people who get carried away with something fun and ruin it for everyone. Agreed! |

ETA: I'm not sure of a better way to run a lottery system though. This could be the end of the lottery... Very interesting. I've been throwing into this years. First time I've ever seen actual participant volumes. Quite a bit higher than I had thought. It will be interesting where they go from here. I hope they are able to continue some type of program as it is probably the only way I will ever get to experience Kona. $2.8mil to the government... Or did I miss where the participants who are actually the "wronged" parties would be reimbursed? They're paying the fine and admitting no wrongdoing. It's a win-win! lol Yeah, it seems like they got off really easy - no criminal charges either. Fines always go to the government, restitution goes to the victims; but, I don't know that people who paid into the lottery are actually victims. They got what was advertised and what they paid for, they are not out anything else. I suppose everyone who entered could try to band together to form a class action lawsuit against them. If successful, a class action suit usually results in big money -for the attorneys!! Bingo! And pennies on the dollar to the "victims". Those things crack me up. I get letters occasionally. |

Not crazy about the idea of my feet on IG but if it's for the kids... Cool idea. If you do it, you should paint your toes with fun colors. I dare ya, NancySteve! Believe it or not I have actually allowed my toes to be painted for the amusement of my family. Had a nice little heart painted on one for valentines day. Sounds like a really cool program. Do not expect me to post pix here. My daughter paints flags (or a similar motif) on my big toes every year for the Fourth of July, but it started with her wanting to practice an Easter Egg. So, I have some RWB on the big pigs for months each summer/fall. This year she allowed that she might want to get a head start and send me to Sweden with my annual paint job (Team USA and all). Usually raises an eyebrow or two, but now that we're in Austin, I'm the "normal one" (with painted toes, shaved legs and ink). Go figure. Cool program - might be tailor made for the McManus Clan. http://techcrunch.olanola.com/blog/43360359784/Lily%E2%80%99s-$499-Selfie-Drone-Is-Like-A-Flying-GoPro Interesting. For the time being it looks like it's usage is limited to 20 minutes. Could you imagine the start of a race where a dozen or more people were launching their drones? My imagination went to drone carnage falling on runners! I'm waiting for 90 minutes+ so I can use it for safety on a bike ride. Imagine that following you as you ride. There was one at the beginning of the HM I did in Feb, but it was controlled by the race folks. They posted the video of the start and it was pretty neat to see. I've had a few races over the last year or so where the race people have used drones at the start and then post the video. It is pretty cool. I can imagine you riding around Englewood with a drone following you. For about 5 minutes. And then someone would shoot it down What are you saying? Mary, I'd like to be able to have it track me and in the event of an accident, I'd have a pretty good pic of the car, and the entire crash scenario. Of course, there would be no license plate info, so I'm not sure which would be better, that or a bike mounted one. A GoPro or Fly12 or Garmin Virb comes to mind. Cycliq, who makes the Fly12 makes a rear facing one as well, the Fly6. Nope, i'm saying you live in Florida, the shoot first ask questions later state! I have some neighbors who might argue about which state that really is. |

"Reduced pricing entry contest" or some such nonsense. Doesn't matter what you call it, if it has the elements of the offense-entry fee, random chance to win, prize, it is illegal. They tried calling it a membership, but that didn't change things. They have to change one of the elements, eg, no fee to enter. I've wondered how all these races have been able to get away with lotteries like this... Something is escaping me on this while I'm sure it's obvious but will someone enlighten me. How is entry fee, random chance to win, and prize illegal? Sounds like any other game of chance from cake walk to powerball. |

Powerball and the like are run by the State/s and they have given themselves exemptions to the law! Every state is a little different, but most have laws against running lotteries as described (fee to enter, random chance to win and a prize). Which is why when you see businesses like McD's running its games they say no purchase is necessary to win. Also, many states will have exemptions for non-profits, so they can use lotteries to raise money. |

Thanks, Mr. Lawyer, for "thinking of me", but... Speaking of unsubstantiated claims... DS2 saw this in a UK running mag (that he somehow has access to in SC) I took a look at "The Science behind Airia One." The "science" is based on 5,000 runs by 100 runners who didn't all have the same type of foot strike. That's a pretty small sample with a lot of variables. Plus, I doubt they'd release their methodology, etc., and replicating it for validation purposes would be difficult because they have a patent pending on their outsole. Statistics are all well and good but they don't mean a darned thing without context. Their claims look akin to Sketchers' claim that their rocker shoes increase fitness. That ended up in Sketchers settling for $40 million, to be paid out to people who bought their shoes. |

CO has raffle laws that has a bunch of requirements, including licensure (that's the only specific I know). They're pretty tightly regulated. I imagine there are interstate commerce laws that would apply to WTC's lottery process. |

While many will point out that Austin in merely surrounded by the Great State of Texas and not actually part of it (usually Texans who don't live in Austin), even this puddle of blue in a red sea / pierced navel of the state is decidedly Texan. So, yep - lots of VERY strong gun rights people in the area. It's one of the few places, perhaps, where you can find a socially ultra-liberal, tattooed, pierced, semi-pro musician, scientist, small government fiscal conservative who is a staunch second amendment advocate. Or just about any other mix you'd care to describe. And they're almost uniformly NICE, too. Mind you, I'm not making a judgment about any of that - it's truly just an observation about the place and the people here. A mix of folks I have not really seen elsewhere in my travels. Makes about any conversation you have a lively and unexpected one! Part of the reason I really like the city is that it is quite accepting of people for who they are and of their points of view - even when it's an "odd" mix compared to typical "camps." Being in a family of odd ducks, it's kind of nice. Matt |

http://techcrunch.olanola.com/blog/43360359784/Lily%E2%80%99s-$499-Selfie-Drone-Is-Like-A-Flying-GoPro Interesting. Not necessarily me, but many here... Matt Sad that the second bolded part is the exception and not the norm. My question to you would be is the person described above anyone that we might know? Because I'd sure like to sit down and have a beer with that guy or gal! |

![]() | ![]() Speaking of, I am due for some shoes soon. I have like 6-7 pair in rotation but the problem is, I've had this rotation for like, 2 years. I was lucky and arrived home from vacation with a shiny new pair of NB to product test, and luckily I love them so I will log a ton of miles. But I need to get a few new pair. |

I meant to ask you from your RR what you were product testing. Glad you like the NB. I recently discovered Yerdle and have re-homed some of my slightly worn shoes that I couldn't/didn't return. |

They are a good lighter weight neutral shoe. A pretty good deal if you don't need additional stability. I've been up and down the ASCIS lineup and have rarely been disappointed. Switched over to Mizuno's for a few years but am rotating in a pair of ASCIS GEL-Electro33's that I'm loving. |
