In the light of the marathoner that just lost his title because he took someone else's bib, and the one that lost his 3rd place finish becasue he took a bus, I thought I would point out how easy it is to get around the rules. I just wonder how many dishonest people there are in the sport.I got a little over dramatic after a couple beers last night. nothing wrong with that!!! it keeps people on their toes. |

Master 1478![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Horseheads, NY | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGI know many of you rider trainers and CTs...anyone ride rollers? I picked up a used set from someone in my club and I tried them for the first time tonight. Pretty fun trying to stay upright. I Doug'd it (rode with my running shoes on) in case I had to make a quick dismount. Set up between a wall and column in my basement so that I had somehting to catch my balance. I spent about 15 minutes trying to figure out how to keep the bike in the middle of those little 15 inch rollers and then was able to go without stopping for 30 minutes. Some Learnings: 1) I sweat a lot trying to stay upright on the rollers. 2) Wiping said sweat with my hand causes me to loose balance and work harder to stay up right on the rollers. 3) If I look down and try to ride, I swerve all over the place - if I keep my head up, I ride much straighter. 4) When I started getting close to the side, I would get all jerky on the pedals and slow my cadence nwhich made me move the bike all over the place overcompensating - smooth consistent cadence provided much straighter ride. 5) In the beginning, I was in an easy gear which caused me to swerve a lot. As I went into bigger gears it go t easier to stay straight. All in all, a pretty good (short) workout. I will give it another go later this week and then try and clip in with my bike shoes and see how that goes.

edit. and now i'm going to have a thin mint. I DO have a job.....and have had it for 23 years! I'm on duty 24/7. Even when I have outside coverage, I'm always on call for emergencies.....even if it means I have to catch a flight. I'm a chef, a driver, a housekeeper, a gardener, a pool (girl!), a coach, a chaperone, a volunteer, a personal shopper, a tax preparer. I'm a volunteer and a cheerleader for sports ranging from swimming to soccer, dance to gymnastics, basketball to baseball, track to cycling, water polo to karate, softball to archery - oh, and triathlons! I'm a national level USAS official. I'm a teacher and a tutor, bill payer, financial planner, a medical practitioner, and precription consultant. GS leader, Cub scout leader, Church youth group leader, vounteer coordinator, chair of more fundraisers than I can count. I manage our family's (including my Dad's) health care/insurance issues so well the national government should take note. In addition to all of the above - I've held a paying job outside my home when my family's finances made it a smart decision. My jobs have always had flexible hours so that I was able to keep daycare hours UNDER 12 per week - usually way less. I'm blessed to be married to an amazing man who, in addition to being a talented breadwinner and an Ironman, is my partner in all of this - emotionally. But his part of the equation, his list of responsibilities, includes travel - more than 20 so far in 2012. He's in Dallas today.... and I DO need a pink jersey!!!

I have always been curious about a workout with rollers. . . George, it sounds a lot different than anything I have tried. Sometimes a different workout added to the plan is really helpful and can alleviate Trainer Boredom : ) |
