Hands down no socks for a tri - bike or run up through HIM distance.  No IM's yet.  For running - no socks in my Zoots for any distance up through marathons.  And I keep all of my toenails looking pretty.  :-)

But tomorrow in my trail shoes I'm using the toed socks.  So we will see how that goes.  Off the bed now.  I hope everyone has a great weekend training, racing, partying or relaxing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kim - you scared me about not having been in a wetsuit or OW since September....!!

So, headed out the the Splash-N-Dash last night, with a same-day entry.  Can't even blame the decision on alcohol!

Very cold, overcast and windy, Mother Nature hasn't gotten the June in California memo.   Last time I did this race was 2009, and I believe I did a 1:05 - but I'm not sure.  This time they had 2 mats....one at the start of the run, and one at the finish.  So the T1 time was wrapped in with the swim.

1.5K swim.  Guys headed off at 6 pm, Ladies at 6:05.  Choppy, but manageable.  Need to work on my sighting - added quite a bit to the first loop of the lake.  yikes.  Couldn't believe how many people cut corners around the buoys, too......how do you rationalize that?!?

Slippery, mossy, gooey climb out of the lake....and a tough time getting the wetsuit off.  I DO think it shrank - is that possible??  Frozen fingers had a tough time tying shoes - don't have the yankz on them, been doing only run races since Sept.  Garmin on (why? 'cuz I feel naked without it!), hat, shades (same reason as Garmin, plus I'm blind without them!), back for the race belt.  Geez.  Not sure what the T1 time was, but suffice to say....slow.

Split showed 33.?? for swim/T1.

Out to the run.....not a lot of people, and not very well marked.  Concerned a couple of times that I was in the right place!  Caught a few guys, felt less lost!  Started seeing people on their way back.  Didn't have heart rate strap on, but it was HIGH - and it didn't come down.  Good thing it was a short race!  Several of us went a bit to far at the turnaround, poorly marked.   Passed a few more on the way back.  Nasty, nasty hills, including one that 150 foot climb in .5 mile, and one that was 150 foot climb in .10 mile.  Rough.  Couple of pukers.    Found a bit of a kick to pass a guy at the finish - who didn't want that to happen.  I felt like telling him to chill.....I already had him by the 5 minute start delta.  Men.

Finished with a 27:?? on the run.  1:01.?? total time, 7th among Masters women.  Results aren't up yet....looking forward to that.

Glad I did it!!

I want to say I read on here somewhere that it's a good idea to soak your suit in the tub if it's been a long while since you've last used it.  It makes it more pliable and less chance of tearing when you put it on, and a suit that isn't pliable might feel like it shrunk.  I'll probably have to soak mine for a couple days...it's been in the closet so long I've named it Trevor

ZINGGGGGGGGGG....Thats all for tonight folks. Tips your waitresses and drive home safe!

Mostly ride/run in socks. just bought a pair of Specialized Trivent Tri shoes.  I have been wearing sockless on training rides with no blisters.

Sprint: No socks anywhere.

Oly/HIM/IM: Socks on the run.

Only wear socks on the bike in training when it's chilly outside (so, like, almost all the time when I ride outside, ha)! Today was the first ride I have done this year without toe covers and a skull cap. Awesome.

I've got a pair of Shimano tri shoes and never wear socks on the bike; in the few tri's I've done I didn't wear socks for the run either but got blisters on my right little toe during my Oly and had to do a weird shuffle/wiggle to keep my toe from rubbing.

When I'm just running I always wear socks, the nicer the sock the better I feel; I think I'll wear socks for all Oly's and longer from now on.

Terps421 - 2011-06-03 8:40 PM It looks like we have a happy hour going on here...do you wear socks during racing? Let's take a poll. I always do.

So far, yes.  I put them on in T1 (lots of baby powder inside and half rolled to make it easy to get them on).  I use Specialized Road shoes and have the top strap already pre-inserted into the buckle.   In T2, my running shoes are already tied and I just slip them on.  Actually, I leave my running shoes tied all the time and just slip them on.  I probably adjust the laces 3-4 times over the course of 500-600 km.

Having said that, I'm open to attempting cycling and running sock-less.   I guess I would have to drop half a size on my running shoes to run sock-less.

Do those of you who run sock-less also train sock-less?

Just saw Sam at mile 20 she was early and we almost didn't get here in time. She looked good.So 20 miles in 3ish hrs is good I think. We have to drive over to the finish line now.

Sock girl here for every distance.  If I ever become competitive enough in my AG that I need those 3 seconds, I might reconsider, but I love my perfectly painted toes and caleous free feet too much.

What I don't get is the people that don't wear them on the bike, but them put them on for the run.  Isn't the time suck the same?

My choices have nothing to do with transition times. It's comfort. I prefer biking without socks -- love to have the breeze through the toes. It does not affect pedis or calluses. If I do wear socks (cooler temps), they are different socks than those with which I run. Hate running without socks!! And I do have blisters and calluses from running (none from cycling), so socks or no socks ain't gonna change that!!

RUN SAMMIE RUN!!!!!

Now I know what I am doing wrong! I print out check lists, load equipment the night before and sign up months in advance. I need to get toasted, where whatever I can find and then show up to some random race with no plan. Then I can get a PR! What I want to know is how you got out the driveway with all those cars up on blocks out in front of your house with the abandoned refrigarators?!

I had a good race today. Think I was 2nd in my AG. Run is improving, but the bike felt awesome! RR when they post the details.

Congrats SAM!
