Oh and for the vets... We may be running the Vegas half!!! This was/is on this year's calendar until my body fell apart. Going up wth a group of friends. Still going, just gonna eat instead. Anything with the word "Summit" in the title scares me. From the website: "16,500 vertical feet of climbing over the course of 139 miles" OMG edited to add: Kyla, that pic is a keeper. Love it!! Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, big news for me, my wife wants to visit her family in the UK for Christmas and obviously I made a big fuss and said "please don't do that to me!!!". The result: she's booked me into a 1 week mountain riding holiday in Anadalucia in southern Spain!!! I fly out to Spain the day after we arrive in London then go back for Christmas followed by a trip with the kids to France. YES!!! |

All I can say is WOW. That sounds like a fantastic Christmas holiday. Hi gang - sorry I am have been AWOL lately. Life at home and work just got too busy and I was just hanging on. But school is out, the sports are winding down and work is less hectic. I've sort been working out and I have a race this Sunday. Let's just say I have very happy it is only a sprint!!!!! I'm a little misty eyed this morning. I just dropped my son off at camp and he should be en route to NYC by now. He will be there through Friday. I'm sure he will have a great time and he was very excited. He's just growing up so fast. My daughter is with my mom for the week so Tony and I have a quiet house for a few days. YEAH!!!!!! Back to the group - You are a tough chick, Kyla. I hope the cut is healing well. Everyone looks like they are having a great spring/summer season. Keep up the hard work and fantastic results. Trevor - the bike trip sounds awesome but I agree with Jayne. I don't do summitts!!!!!! But a nice wine biking tour sounds awesome. Enjoy the week gang - we've got lovely temps for 2 days and then hotter than hell through the weekend including my race. :-(

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My vote so far would be Tony's suggestion. But can't see pulling that one off. A buddy has done this one. http://www.levisgranfondo.com/ Thats an option for end of next summer. Best part about it, is that I NEED a roadbike for all this 'training' with Michelle. WHOOT WHOOT! |

A friend of mine on my team did it, he said one of the climbs was the toughest he's ever done, and he's done Alpe D'huez. It really depends on what kind of route you're looking for, and how far you're willing to travel. |

Way undertrained for the run, so need to lower my expectations and just not reinjure! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So any ideas how tough they are for online masters admissions? I applied at Penn States' online campus, new company pays for school so why not. Part of me thinks they just want $$ so they aren't picky for online admissions. I had a great time in undergrad partying, doing school work not so much, so the grades are just above the Mendoza line, but that was almost 20 years ago.

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() SSMinnow - 2012-06-26 8:28 PM YUM! More of this, please! So I'm aware of taper madness, but is there such a thing as peak week madness? My (first) HIM is coming up in about 2.5 weeks and yesterday and today I'm just feeling really down- not about my training, I trust the plan - but just down about life in general and having the blues. Maybe I should just look at more pix of Ryan Lochte, that will cheer me up! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ryan Lochte is the bomb. Olympic Trials swimming is the bomb. So is track-and-field. And diving. Heck, it all rocks. I LOVE OLYMPICS!!! So here was my philosophical musing yesterday... Surprised I've never mused about this, seeing as I was a swimmer... but isn't it interesting that after their races, no matter how long and grueling (granted 1500M is the longest race, sub-15 minutes for those Olympians)... swimmers just fling off their goggles, look at their time, smile, high-five, and crawl across lanes for congratulations. You never see them puking, crumbling to the ground in exhaustion, eyes rolling back in their head -- any of those things you can see after a running race or a triathlon and you don't think twice about it. WHY IS THAT??????!!! Is it that swimmers train so much beyond their races? (I'd guess Phelps puts in at least 15K/day, and his longest race is 400M.) Is it the self-preservation aspect of swimming that you are limited in when you can breathe (due to water), so we can only push our bodies so far? Is it the lack of pounding on the body (like with running)? I think it's cool, of course, but just something intersting to think about. And when you're not thinking about that... Think about this: IT'S TREVOR'S BIRTHDAY!!! Happy Birthday, Trevor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Crush that race this weekend! Everyone else too!! Sam! Who else? |

I am normally not down in the dumps during peak weeks, but I am tired, hungry and crankier than normal! |

Tell us what/where and ONE thing you'll do differently to make this result the best it can be! Sort of a last minute addition, but count me among the racing fools this weekend. Doing a local Oly that uses part of the IM course and then adds more hills on top of it. It nearly killed me in '09. Main goal is to see how hard I can crush the bike and then how I feel holding on for the run. The swim is quirky, three loops and you need to get out after each one, run up the beach and around a tree. With anticipated temps in the 90s it should be good practice in case IM is hot this year. |
