It is probably kept pretty warm for families to swim in is my guess.  You really don't want it extremely warm to race in as you will get hot in a hurry.  It sucks getting in but you are better off in the long run.

Mike - have you?  I was going tomorrow.  I was thinking today, but tomorrow will work out better.  Are they charging?  And what do you get?  A sticker?

I just got off the phone with Zach at the shop. They aren't charging anything, but they said that they don't have stickers or anything...They said they are filling out some kind of form. So far, they have only done one bike check. I haven't gone by for my check, yet.

Athens Triathlon: Rain Or Shine!
We have received serveral calls regarding this weekend's Athen's Sprint Triathlon and the weather.  Forecast as of now indicates only a 10 percent chance of any rain and absolutely no ice or snow.  Low Sunday morning is 30 with a high of 58 in Athens.  Multi-sport events are rain or shine.  If there is any changes, please go to: www.ironheadrp.com and go to "calendar" and click on "Athens". There is a possibility of snow in Dallas but NOT in Athens.  The race will go on as scheduled.  If you think you may have trouble getting to the race site on race morning, we suggest you leave early or come and spend Friday night in Athens. We remind you there is NO packet pick up on race morning and each competitor is required to pick up his/her own packet. And remember bring proof of your USA Triathlon annual membership to packet pick up or you will be required to pay $10.00 and purchase a day membership.
Ironhead Race Productions considers the safety of all of it's competitors the most important aspect of any of it's events.  However cold weather and/or rain are not conditions that directly affect the safey of an event.  All competitors should dress accordingly for the weather  conditions anticipated.  If there any modifications to the race to include postponement to a later time or date that decision would not be made until race morning at the race site.  Please do not call on weather related issues as these calls will not be returned.  Please plan on racing.
Thanks,
jack

^^^I laughed when I got that and had so many things run through my mind that he pretty much said, just in nicer terms...but for everyone, here is the quick cliff notes version reference the weather:
SUCK IT UP AND DRIVE ON!

I agree--can't control it, so deal with it right! See y'all at the dinner tomorrow and ready to race Saturday!

So it'll be cold. No biggie. I'll just take a few extra seconds in T1 to put on a jacket, gloves, and leg warmers. The worst part will be coming out of the nice, warm pool and hitting the cold blast.

At least I don't have to strip down to my shorts and weigh myself in the parking lot before the race, like some idiots dedicated athletes will undoubtedly be doing.

Sorry to those in Longview.  I never made it last night.  Anybody make it?  This is never really a big deal, just a formality I think.

I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get my bike checked since I'm in middle-of-no-where Killeen, and wrote Jack a note and he said they could check it at the race if I couldn't get it done...I was able to get mine done...but sounds like there is some sort of plan for it at the race site as well.

It's Texas. It's weather-related. People freak out.

I understand cold isn't much of a safety issue (other than possibly strained/pulled muscles, but rain sure as hell is when you're on a bike with razor thin tires going 20 mph.

I think all women 30-34 should realize it's too cold and dangerous, and just stay home.  Smile

You're concerned about all but two of them.

Top spot on the podium is much better when there are other people behind you.

True, True...but my best chance is if NO ONE else is there!

I did look at last years stats...my goals is to finish in the top 75% of my AG for this one....

I actually have three different outfits prepared right now for the bike/run....
