Pre-race routine:

You know, about 10 mins before the start we're at this park in downtown Phoenix and there is a huge boat anchor in the middle. I walked over to it and it was from the USS Arizona...hard not to get choked up staring at that thing during the national anthem.

Event warmup:

hopped around trying to keep warm til the sun came up.

Things I'm adding to this report so I don't forget them
I don't remember this race mile for mile. But I remember some key things.
For the first 3 miles I couldn't believe how many people were ducking behind, well anything, to use the bathroom, there wasn't an alleyway spared.

At around mile 5 we turned on to Missouri Blvd only to discover that there were about 5 of us all running together in a group that were actually from Missouri.

I ran for a few miles with a woman from the St Louis area named Teresa Petro.

Not once during the day did I question what I was doing or swear I'd never run again. Leg issues and all, I had FUN.

To the kid at about mile thirteen with the box of kleenex...THANKS!

About mile 6 or 7 there was a group hanging out in someones front yard. They had a campfire and had obviously partied all night. They had a sign up that said. We drink...so you can run. It was cool to see that kind of support.

What would you do differently?:

Not a lot, I'm mad because I was on pace to do a sub 4 in my first marathon. Wasn't meant to be. I said I'd be happy with anything under 4:30 so I'll happily take this, but man a sub 4 would have been cool.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat around in the reunion area for the rest of our group, drinking beer and nursing our wounds.

Event comments:

I loved this event. I hope to come back and do it again!
