Subject: What do you do with your shoelaces?

This is kind of an a really odd question, but my husband and I were recently talking about how wasteful it is to just throw out a brand new of laces when we put Yankz( or whatever you might use) in a brand new pair of running shoes.  I think we're up to about 10-12 pair of laces now..

Has anyone ever thought about sending them back to the shoe company?

You know, I've wondered the same thing. I certainly don't have as many laces laying around as you do, but I certainly don't want to just throw what I have away. What a waste. If you come up with any good ideas, let me know.

I put the laces back in when I donate the used shoes.  Reuse the Yankz on the next pair of shoes until they wear out.

I use mine. I train with regular laces...I just put the yankz! on for races (and the last few runs I do before the race).

I only have the speed laces/yankz on my racing shoes.  I do not use them day to day on my training shoes.

Seems kind of silly to me to spend the money on training shoes when I'm not really in such a hurry that I can't tie my shoes.

Decorative Macreme?
Cat's Cradle?

I do a lot of outdoors stuff, and shoelaces are handy for camping etc. (even if they're not in shoes).

I've got one pair of laces looped around the handle of my workout bag (going on 2 years now) just in case I break a lace, lose a drawstring, etc.

The shoe company won't want them (would you buy a pair of shoes if they had "used" laces in them?) and it would cost a fortune to ship them to where they could re-insert them in new shoes anyways.

Donate them to a kid's afterschool program, homeless shelter, cub-scout or brownie group, etc.

It's not a huge expense, considering I get mine at Walmart for $0.49 a set. Look in the craft department, in with all the sewing supplies. They have the identical elastic sholaces with the bungee lock mehcanism as some of the pairs I've seen in running specialty shops (not like the Speed Laces). I've only seen them in white, grey, navy and red, but they work as well as some pairs I've spent $10 on.

I use them like I use my old race shirts, I clean my bike with them!

I use shoelaces on my cassette. With my Ultegra 11-23 and 12-25 the 3 largest cogs are all one piece. I really can't reach between them with my fingers so I take one of my old shoe laces and I wrap it around the spacer in between each of the 3 cogs and I pull it through. I usually do this 3 or 4 times until it is clean. I then wash them with all my other dirty bike cleaning stuff and reuse them when I can.
