pinktrigal - 2008-01-24 11:11 AM I was wondering about proper sleeping attire and it's relation to gains in sleeping time? Also, how does sheet selection factor into this?

Sleep attire is completely optional and often not used.  Sheets…I prefer those on the bed as opposed to sleeping directly on the mattress.

Now that would make your transition time much faster

Don't even attempt it, none of you could ever train hard enough to beat me in a sleepathon. I can do 11 or 12 hours on a light day without even trying. Sleep is my calling, my once chance at great success.

I love the 1/2 marathon sleep where you sleep for 13.1 hours!

Yeah, but I live in a cold weather climate. That means if I'm going to get in any quality sleep at all, it's going to have to be on a CompuSleeper.

Luckily, the CompuSleeper offers the closest possible simulation of the actual sleep experience. I actually feel like I'm laying horizontally with my head tilted at a 15 degree angle to simulate the gradient of a pillow. Plus I get real-time data on such crucial info as Snores Per Minute (SPMs), REMs and of course, Resting Heartrate.

If I want, I can even measure my current sleep against past sleep performances. Really, I can't imagine going to bed without it.

I heard that there is an ultrasleepathon being organized by the canadian bears - they have been grouchy of late  - could be hormonal - so after a community meeting they thought they would call it hibernating.

carb loading to begin this weekend

In the summer I get sloppy, but this winter I have been so consistent with my morning sleep. Sure there have been a few times that I have slipped up and gotten up early, but for the most part I have kept my focus and stayed in bed.

I have to admit I've been accused of using performance enhancing drugs for my sleeping. I didn't know what I was taking at the time. My trainer gave me a glass of an amber substance for carb replacement. It came in green bottles, and it was from a Dutch company I believe. After 12 of them during the Pats/Chargers game last week I was sleeping in a seated position on the couch.

Impressive!  The seated position.  I don't think I've ever achieved full REM sleep in the seated position.

triturn - 2008-01-24 11:46 AM I too try to sleep alot. I sleep 6 days a week and then stay awake all night on my rest day. I do have a question that I hope someone can help me with. Often, my foot or leg falls asleep and I have no feeling in that extremity. Is this bad form or do I need to get fitted for my bed?

Is your mattress too high?

Maybe your hip angle is too closed because the length of your bed frame might be too short for your torso.

Good point. I will try to make the adjustments and see if that helps.

On another note, I just bought a SLEEPERVALS DVD and I can't wait to try it out tonight. Has anyone used these?

I'd recommend going to the Local Sleep Shop and getting a professional fitting.

I suck at sleeping......what sleep drills are available to increase sleep endurance? Does anyone have any drills for speed sleeping? To increase sleep duration should I follow the 10% rule? Where can you get a good bed fitting? I think I'll use the periodization approach to training for this discipline.....and THANK YOU..... I never thought about a run/sleep brick! NICE! :P

poo. I suck at sleeping, too (see prior plaintive posts on insomnia).

Same here!

I think I need to get a sleep coach and start training. Is there a training plan Couch-bed aggressive 1 week?

Don't forget the importance of proper a hydration blance when sleeping.

Overhydration, in particular, is to be avoided.  It can result in more frequent breaks, reducing the quality of the overall session.  It's something you'll each want to tinkle with.  I mean, tinker with.

NAS announced early sign-ups for the 21st annual Ironhammock will go on sale at midnight of the Winter Solstice.  Venue will remain where it always is... Sleepy Hollow, NY.

I am SO there.  140.6 hours of sleep.  Can you dig it?  I'm getting tired just thinking about it...
