Hi Trigoddess.  Thanks for starting this thread.  A place to share my innermost fear!  :-)  Looking forward to some good discussion, raising some stupid questions and maybe even sharing some of my training experience as the months progress.  Me and my brother Chris (Karhooligan) are both recovering from the flu (well, I'm not so sure I'm in the recovery phase just yet, but he is).  I'm really looking forward to the experience of being a part of IMAZ in Nov.  We're driving from Dallas, TX to Tempe on Tuesday evening arriving sometime Wednesday afternoon.

There are no stupid questions!!! And beginning in June- remember that the word 'if' as in 'if I finish the IM' is no longer allowed in your vocabulary, at least until after Nov. 23. It will always be 'when' because YOU will finish the Ironman.

This will be a great forum to share what we will all be going through. It helped me when I was training for IM FL to see that everyone else was hurting, suffering, anxious....as I was about the same time during our training period.

Will this be your first IM?

Yes, this will be my first IM.  My first HIM is in April.  I signed up for both just following my first Oly in October.

And I definately follow the rule of "When, not if" as to the finishing of the IM.  I'm a positive person.  I do have a goal time, but as I've read, it's just a goal, not an ultimatum....and in the course of the S/B/R, that goal may change several times.  :-)

It is exciting- keep that attitude! You will survive. One thing I did all during my trianing was visualization- a lot of visualization. When I did spin classes, I got on the front row right in front of the mirror and watched myself in the mirror seeing myself on the course attacking the 'demon' at mile 80, 90, 110... and when I would run, I did the same thing. By the time IMFL came I was ready for whatever 'demons' showed up to try to make me stop.
My IM training will officially begin in June, but will be preparing for sprint tri's before then.

Woo Hoo… Our own little thread! This is gonna’ be fun!!!

After IMLP last July (my first IM), I swore I wouldn’t do another one! Now, of course, I find myself registered for IMAZ--Funny how that happened.

In any event, I took quite a bit of time off after LP and recently just started up. Then, being the idiot I am, I managed to injure myself this weekend so now I’m down for a few days.

So, please post away so I’ll have something to do to pass the time while I recover. LOL!

Happy training,
Cappy

BTW: When do we get our bib numbers? LOL!

Looking forward to the event as well.  At this point, just doing some base training 6-8 hours per week.  IM training will begin for me the end of July - 17 weeks of focus.  Untill then, gonna do some fun local races and get myself ready for the training.

To everyone, remember the goal is to peak at the end of November, not in June or August.

What?  You don't wanna know what the water temperature is right now in Tempe Town Lake?  What's the matter with you man!

I've been doing good on my bike trainer sessions, though I've taken the last week off with my Mom being in the hospital.  Sure am looking forward to some warmer weather though.  The running conditions around here suck right now!

I figure as long as we don't have to use an auger to cut a lane, it's gotta' be warm enough!

That's funny!  I actually did look up the temp of the lake.  Of course I was looking at temperatures of last year around Nov. 23.  It would really suck if the temp was above 72 and we couldn't wear wetsuits. It was just below 68 on this date last year.

Thankfully it is a LONG time from now as I too am a little under the weather and tired of it.
Thanks a lot for this thread, I look forward to keeping up with it.
Are any of you other Nov. IMAZ's going to watch in April? I think I will, which I hope to find motivating, if not frightening.
Happy Training!

I have a friend from here in Mississippi who is racing his first IM- AZ in April and bless his ignorant heart (as in ingorance is bliss)- not knowing any better, when IM AZ opened in Nov. he registered for that one two never having done one yet! He'll do fine though. I'm pumped for him and he will no doubt be joining in on this blog soon enough. Now is the time for us to all get well and get these nagging injuries behind us! I wanna be 100% when the 'real' training starts this summer.
Be safe this weekend, train well, party hard and sleep tight-

IMGary - 2008-03-06 2:49 PM

For speed work on the bike, someone once recommended riding through rural areas where there were lots of dogs to chase us, resulting in random interval training. Said it helped get the heart rate up quickly. Does that really work?

I'm going to have to try the whole being chased by a hungry preditor thing. That sounds like it would get me faster very quickly.

Can't believe someone would sign up for two IM's in one year, never having done one yet. Is he sick or what?

Ha! I signed up for my first two in the same season.

The third one that year was more of a surprise race.

JeepFleeb, you are NOT normal, you crazy person....

Like doing an Ironman wasn't difficult enough, I got a nice pre-training incision on my shoulder to repair a torn rotator cuff.

Alright i will throw down my thoughts.

I am excited about my training and probably equally as scared.  Is the swim in a river?  It sure looks like it.  I wonder how that would work with a current and all I mean.  I put a better seat on my exercise bike as here in Denver it has been snowing a lot.  I won't go into detail but there is a certain part of my body that honestly about 45 minutes into a bike on the exercise bike feels like someone is cutting right through me.  Any ideas on a really good seat?

I also think as this group progresses and time goes on it would be cool to hook up before the race?  Anyone up for it?

Happy training and if any of you are looking for a coach.  I have one.  He is NOT local to Denver but has been really good for me and I highly recommend him.  chat or e-mail me if you want any information.

 Thanks,

Ray
