Subject: IMAZ spectators - where is best?

We've got some folks coming out.  Since IMAZ seems to be so spectator friendly, where would be a good spot to set up to see us coming in on bike and run loops.  Is there one spot to cover both?

Also, my wife wants to get one of those canopy tarps, to use as shade cover.  I've told her we need one with tie downs in case of wind, but for those that have been before, would this be a good thing to have?

Thanks

Yeah Chris, the Mill Ave. Bridge/Rio Salado intersection provides a lot of chances for people to see you on the bike but it will be crowded. For the run, a good spot in underneath the bridge as it's in the shade, next to Transition and close to the finish line, so your family can see you on each loop and get to the finish line quickly.

My family is hanging out on Priest. Our hotel is right across the street, so they can see me go by on the bike and run. Plus my kids get to help at the aide station on the corner, and they dig that.

It is a short walk/drive back to the finish from that corner so on my last lap, they have plenty of time to see me, go back to the hotel, take a quick nap, read a book, get something to eat, shower, change their clothes then make it to the finishline before I do.

Alright... help from the Cows again. Your daughter was great at that aid station last year!

Thanks all, I'll tell her to put the kibosh on the tarp then.

Do the underpasses you guys are referencing get real crowded?

No place out there was overly crowded last year.  I think most places are pretty accessible so there were no hordes of people trying to get to one particular area.  I'll be all over the place this year now that I know all the good spots!

If you have a few minutes, watch my IMAZ race video.  Its the big one at the top of the page...

My brother filmed it from a BUNCH of different places...you can see how many people are in each area.  Never really crowded.  He said that he never had trouble moving from place to place and everything was very accessible to spectators.
