Subject: IMCal FE Plans (Lunch, Dinner, Post-Race)

Since I am the local kid for this race, I decided last year to organize the FE (Forumite Encounter) for the BT Kids and we had a great time. A bunch of us went out to lunch on Friday after the morning warmup swim and packet pickup. This looks like it is gong to be another great year for IMCal and here is your chance to get to meet some of us IRL and enjoy a bite to eat:

Lunch - Either Thursday or Friday, meet at the expo
Dinner - Thursday (Had a real low turnout last year for Friday but if there might be interest)

Swim - My Tri Club in partnership with Nytro will be hosting a warmup swim on Friday morning at the pier. Last year there was a 2XU Rep Demoing Wetsuits. (I bought one) I will post more details on this as it all gets ironed out. Am really hoping that Sonja from Nytro turns out for the swim. (She did CdA and Kona Last year and has done IMCal a bunch of times)

Race Day - We had a little ad-hoc meeting at the end of the day in the food tent after the race and everyone had a great story to tell. A few of us who were in the same AG also chatted before the race. If we know what everyone looks like, we can all enjoy piles of pizza after the race and swap war stories.

Ultimately, heading out an running an HIM is a lot more enjoyable if you know a few of the folks out on the course. There are plenty of opportunities to bump into folks during the race (especially the run course) and give out high fives and cheer each other on.

You just never know how dark things are for the BT kid your cheer on in passing

I have volunteered to help our club sponsor, Nytro set up and tear down their tent in the expo so will pretty much be hanging about all week. I am open for a Lunch/Dinner FE on any of the days leading up to the race.

I will also be at the Friday Morning Warmup Swim with my Club Mates. Interesting that I did the warmup swim last year (Thanks to Sal for posting the info for this) and got hooked up with the folks that ultimately started the Tri club that I now belong to.

After the race, I plan on sticking around and cheering folks on for a while. I probably won't make the awards though as this makes for a very long day. (Unless someone I know ends up on the podium that is)

Hi Tim.  Thanks for organizing this.  I'm not flying in until friday afternoon, so that's the only chance I'll have to meet up.  If there's an FE dinner I might be able to make it.  Would also be interested in post race.

I will definitely track you down on the Transition Area pre-race. Should be a lot easier to find you than it was at Wildlflower last year.

Post-Race, I will be around for most of the day after the race. Who can refuse an offer of all the pizza you can eat. (Trust me, they will not run out)

Lunch - Thursday would be awesome as i should arrive right about lunch. say around 12:30 would work. Friday lunch would not work for me since I will be having lunch with my fellow Challenged Athlete. 61 of us are doing the Operation Rebound for our fellow military guys.
Dinner - Thursday (Had a real low turnout last year for Friday but if there might be interest)

Swim - I'm definitively interested on this one. You did say Friday morning. right.

Race Day - I'm Bib# 730. A real good number.

 Thanks for organizing this. Cheers.

I'm actually racing in wave # 3. Should be a good start and less people to tranple with in the water, but just that many more to pass me on the run. Don't forget to say Hi!! See you out on the course. Cheers!

mixie - 2008-03-20 3:43 PM I don't know if I can come down friday or not. Im pretty sure I have the day off work but can't spring for a hotel room and don't want to drive down both days.  If anyone is heading down from the LA area and returning that evening either  friday or thursday  let me know. Otherwise I will see you all Saturday morning bright and early!  I'll post a pic of what I'll be wearing so you know who's line to stand in for body marking

Check with ChrisM. I think he's from up-there. I know he is not racing, but heard he was there to make sure that I don't walk on the run portion. Ha! Ha! Have a great race.

I'm volunteering at this race and I plan on making a day out of it so I might be up for a post-race FE if you have one. I can't make anything during the week because I will be working though. I will at least try and write down everyone's bib numbers so I can give you some extra encouragement when you pass through my aid station!

Andrew. If you don't come to the post-race FE, your next Hallowe'en costume will be the thousand pieces of my heart stuck all over your body. How's THAT for original.

WOOF!

How's lunch coming along? Hey, there will be at LEAST three people there, and we're talking three super-fly BTers.

As for post-race ... where would be a good place to go? There are definitely a whole bunch of post-racers and Ironsherpas interested ...

The best post-race feed bag for the racers is of course the food tent. They refuse to run out of pizza and drinks. (They were still bringing in Pizza for the Awards at 6:00PM)

The only bummer is that this is only an option for participants

There are a ton of very cool places to eat fairly close to the race location in both Oceanside and Carlsbad just up the road. Just depends on what everyone is interested in for Post-Race Recovery.

I would be up for something after the race as long as it is not too late.

Here is what I think we have for Friday Lunch:

Waterdog (Tim)
Devouahy (Hans)
KWFire (Kevin)
TriAya (Yanti)
Mixie
DoloresM2 (Dolores)
ACGray22 (Andrew)

Anyone else want to join us or that I missed???

I will be at the race site at 7:00AM on Friday hosting the Warmup Swim and then volunteering at the Nytro Booth the rest of the morning.

I suggest we meet the street level ramp to the Oceanside Pier and then make a decision on where we want to go for lunch. I am open for wherever we all want to go. We can stay local (IE. Walk) or we can go into Carlsbad or Encinitas for some really good eats.

Some suggestions/Possibilities:

Ki's Juice Bar (In Encinitas) - Really good Vegetarian/Light Food
Ruby's (Either at the end of the pier or in Carlsbad) - Burgers/Fries Milkshakes
Fish House Vera Cruz - (In Carlsbad) - Great Seafood and Light Menu
Fidel's Del Norte (In Carslbad) - Great Mexican
Jay's Seafood - (In Carlsbad) - Great Seafood and Pizza
The Harbor House (In Oceanside) - Good all around menu

All of these places can accomodate larger parties
