Subject: Hello from CanadaI found this site a few weeks ago and have been using the race and training logs - they are much better than anything else I have seen.
The short version: I am 46, a long-time slowish runner - mostly marathons and 1/2 marathons. I took a beginner tri clinic this summer and entered a few "try-a-tri" races. I was hooked from the first one! Joined the Y, starting swimming (my weak sport by far ), and am now planning a full season of Sprints & Olympics - maybe a 1/2IM later in 2005. Have informed my wife that my goal is a full Ironman before I turn 50 - possibly 2006 (! ) - she is a new runner and is very understanding about my new favourite sport.
I think the thing I like most about triathons is the mixture of the 3 things I did a lot of naturally as a kid - running around endlessly, biking when I wasn't running, and swimming to cool off in between. I got more of a buzz from mixing those three things together in my first Try-a-Tri than from my marathons. So far it is a toss-up which I enjoy more - swimming or biking.
I am not much a joiner so I think you can take it that I also enjoy the forums here - lots of useful information for newbies like me.
