Hey Team!  Glad to meet ya (thanks for the shout-out Lynne!)...

My goals this month are basically what the Oly plan from BT has laid out for me:

  • swim 375 minutes (6.25 hours)
  • run 375 minutes (6.25 hours)
  • bike 12.5 hours (I think)

I have a duathlon (my first) on April 27, which will help with the miles. It's a 1.6 run /14.4 bike/3.8 run.  Tomorrow begins week 9 of the 16-week Olympic plan, so I am halfway to my goal which is an Oly tri (duh) on June 7.

So, let's tell the team a little bit about ourselves...I'm am mom to 2 young boys (2 and 5) in the 'burbs of Seattle/Redmond.  I complain about the weather and about lack of time to train a lot, however, I am starting to figure out how to fit it all in without disrupting everyone's life too bad!  I am a major spaz, if you don't believe me, please refer to my photo album entitled "new wetsuit".  I appreciate inspires so much and even if I don't return them immediately, I do try to get to them!  This is my second tri season-I did four sprints last year, and placed in most of them in the Athena category, which I am racing again this year.  I am on Team Javelin, too.  That's good enough for now.  Next?????

I like Leslie's idea of introducing ourselves too.  I'm married to a guy who thinks this whole training thing is crazy, but he supports me anyway.  I live in NW Florida, so I get to train outdoors all year long (although I complain when it gets too hot or too cold).  I'm an engineer under contract to the Air Force -- I work a lot, and sometimes I disappear for awhile but I always resurface.

This is my second tri season too.  I did two sprints last year, along with lots of running races.  I have several goals for this year -- run at least one half marathon (completed in early March!), do a century ride, and compete in an Oly tri.  I have an opportunity to ride the century at the end of April, and I'm trying to determine if I'm ready or not.  So I'll be putting in lots of bike mileage this month.

What is Team Javelin?

Hey Guys,
My name is Fred, I live in the Philadelphia, Pa. area. I have always been an avid runner. I have recently joined the riding community. You would think the next step would be swimming but that just has not happened yet. I am going to start to do some duathlons and continue to do my 1/2 marathons. I love traveling to different runs especially if there are beaches or islands involved.

My names Bob and I'm from Central New Jersey. Married with a 3 year old so that tends to hold my training time down a bit but like to sneak it in when I can.

My 2nd season of racing. Did 2 5K's, a 10M trail run and a different type of Triathlon last year. The Tri had a quick run/sprint to a 1.5 mile Canoe instead of the swimming leg. Look forward to doing 4 - 6 Tri's this year though may stay to sprints with an eye towards an Oly and HIM next year.

My husband also thinks I am crazy, but I assume for most triathletes who are married, there is a spouse with those thoughts who hopefully remains supportive anyway!  With two young kids it gets really challenging just finding a little bit of time to work out, especially on the bike, since it takes more than the rest.  I am psyched that my DH is taking today off and the sun is shining, so I am gonna get to ride after it warms up..yay!

Team Javelin is a bike company that supports triathletes of all levels with discounts on certain products in exchange for us wearing their uniform at races.  They even sent little uniforms for my boys.  I will post a pic.    Sledge, do you have a name other than Sledge?  I may have missed that earlier.

Sledge - 2008-03-31 7:50 AM Hey everyone, I'm Cheri (Sledge).  I recognize a couple of names on our team from previous challenges.  I'm going for 250 miles biking and 75 miles running.

Sledge I found your name, should have looked on page 1!    Hi Cheri!

Anyway, what do you all have planned for workouts today?

I'll be doing 70 min on the bike (outside in the sunshine!) and 35-ish min in the pool doing a 2000 m time trial.

Hey Team,

Matt from Bellingham here, married with a 9 month old daughter. My wife is pretty supportive of training, but I try to get a lot of it out of the way before work or first thing on the weekends in order to minimize the impact on schedules.

I'm new to these challenges, so I hope I've set realistic goals. I'm thinking the swimming might be a little low and I'm unsure on the running goal as I'm currently experiencing PF type symptoms following my first 5k this last weekend.

Hi Team,

I've done 3 sprint tris over the last couple years. I'm a middle of pack age grouper. In December I decided what the heck and signed up for a Half Ironman in September. My goal is under six hours, but it's just a shot in the dark at this point. I'll have to see how my training is going.

I'm signed up for an olympic and a sprint race this summer.

Just a little more history. I've ran 3 marathons since 2000.

I'm married with an 8 year old son and a 5 year old daughter, so I do almost all my training in the morning before work.

I'm going on vacation for the next 5 days, but I'm going to try to get some runs in. I've never done a challenge before, I'm hoping it will help keep up with my training plan. I'd hate to let my team down. If I can't meet my goals, I'll fake an injury.

I'm also in Cactus's mentor group and it's a great group of people.

Scot
(I'm not Scottish like ScotInSeattle, but I've only got one t in my name and that makes me special. :-) Ok, I just couldn't think of a witty moniker when I signed up.)

Hi Team,

I also like the idea of introducing ourselves! I am Kerry from Southern California right now (not originally or for very much longer but for now :-) ). My boyfriend and I are planning a move to either Portland Seattle or Austin in the next few months, and I am busy studying for the GREs at the moment. And distracting myself from math with this month's challenge most likely :-)

No kids and a very supportive boyfriend means I have no (good) excuse for slacking either!

Now I am off to change my avatar to a peep since I did my first challenge ever last month and my team came it at 99%. So here's to winning this month!!

Hi Everyone -

My name is Stacie. I live in Oklahoma - we have been there for about 15 months and we previously lived for almost 7 years in Alaska. I work from home for my company in Alaska, but for the next few days I am in Alaska working in the office. I try to come up about 2-3 times a year. I am married to a very supportive husband Brian who is active duty Air Force and will hit 19 years of service this July. In my logs you will see biking, running, lifting and other activities but no swimming - since I don't know how. I am hoping to start swim lessons toward the end of this with an adult girlfriend who doesn't know how to swim either.

I was going to do a half-marathon in April but in Jan was sidelined from training for almost 2 months with a shoulder problem. That was all I had planned for this season since this year will be continuing to train, up the mileage and finish up the graduate degree. I am one class and project away from my graduate degree so unfortunately I spend a great deal of time on that as well as spending time with my hubby whenever he is home (which is not very often unfortunately). I am hoping to get into Du's and half and full marathons next year after school is complete and I have a little bit more time to devote to proper training.

I have always had luck with challenges (so far never been on a losing team and not going to start now) - so lets have another great round this month. Enough about me - so I will close here.

Stacie

Hi team!

Late addition to the team.  My name is Oliver and I have an ambitious month ahead of me with goals of 700miles on the bike, 50 miles of running and 9k meters of swimming. This is my second full year of doing triathlons.  I have an Olympic in June and the Vineman Aquabike in August, but more than anything I'm using this year to build a base in running and I'm looking forward to 2009 and a hopeful IM attempt.

Hi, all!  Emily from Indiana here.  I work full time (I'm a second shifter so I get to sleep in and stay up late) and recently started back to school on a part time basis.  There's nothing like being in a room full of 20 years olds to make you feel old! This is my first season of triathlon.  As a matter of fact, my first triatlon is on April 20.  I'm signed up for a few sprints with my eyes on a oly distance in the fall.

Note about challenge goals: Please have your goals finalized and in the spreadsheets by the end of Friday, April 4th.  For international people, end of US' Friday.  After that, goals can be increased at any time without permission, but cannot be decreased except in case of severe illness, injury, or other emergency.

Good afternoon everyone!  I hope you've been out there working on your fitness today!  Let's hear what you've been up to today!!  My last challenge team ended up with 50 pages....it was a lot of fun getting to know everyone on there, so let's see some posts!  Don't forget to fill in the spreadsheet--directions are on page 1.

I'm home in the quiet this afternoon while my 2-yr-old is finally napping.  I ran 21 minutes to achieve that nap, even though it was a scheduled rest day today.  I love seeing my pink squares fill up the month, so no complaints here!

I am a computer idiot after having been out of the workforce for a few years.  I mocked up this for the team, although it is not pretty (in fact, it is so ugly!) and there are no fancy working links.  It looks like a finger painting done by a 2-yr-old which is my art influence these days.  If anyone has the expertise to make a lovelier one, please do and share with the team! I am missing a couple of first names, also.

That is a nice list. So its getting pretty hectic at work, but somehow I was able to sneak out for a 50 min ride in some heavy wind. Its amazing how windy it is near airports. I was almost knocked off my bike. Hopefully I will get some trainer riding tonight or perhaps a little jog. Maybe I'll take the roommate's dog out for a run.

I was able to get an unplanned ride in today, just 45 minutes.  I got home from work to find out we were having dinner at my in-laws and my wife was already there, so I figured this was the perfect opportunity to ride my bike out to their house.

My foot is feeling much better, but I'm trying to wait until at least Sunday to go for a run.  I have a chronic problem of trying to come back too quickly from injuries, thus prolonging the pain.  It's hard because I've only recently started to enjoy running and I've had to hold off this week.  The bike ride helps my attitude, I thought I was only going to be able to swim this week with the foot pain.
