Hey Everyone!

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. Anyone racing this weekend? I've got my second sprint and I can't wait! I'm not nearly as nervous.

Hope everyone's training is going well!

Good luck Chris!

I'm registered for a sprint this weekend, but may have to pass in favor of working - especially considering the MS 150 bike ride is all next weekend.

Two weeks ago I did my first 1/2 IronMan.  It was tough, but I finished in 7 hrs and 2 min in spite of wind rain and HILLS.

Chris-Good luck on your second sprint! I do my first next Sunday.

Jasha-Wow!  Congrats on your first 1/2 Ironman!  Way to go!

I'm did a free 5 hour tri clinic yesterday and I recommend it for anyone who is getting into their first tris.  It was very informative, had lots of great tips, and it was a great opportunity to meet people who are shooting for similar goals.

I hope training is going well for all!

Karen your clinic sounds great.  Wish they had one around here.

I did my first 100 mile bike ride yesterday.  And I can still walk today. Surprised   Life is goodSmile

Man jasha, HIM. That's really great! After doing these last two sprints, it puts the longer distance events into some serious perspective. Amazing job.

Karen, good luck in your race! I learned a lot in my first race. It went by in a bit of a blur but it was great. Good luck and if you have any specific questions, I just did my first last month so it's still pretty fresh.

Well its freezing here and just downright miserable, but I finally have gotten off my behind and started some training. Last night went to the pool- which to my surprise has to be one of the cosiest places in the city- it was really toasty inside and the water was lovely! So I swam a quiet little km. And this morning got off to the gym and did a slow 3km on the treadmill- felling really pleased with myself and determined to get some regularity into my workouts.
Inspired by all the achievements in the group!

Maree,  All right - two days in a row, thats a good start.  I also like hiding out in a warm pool when it's cold out.  It's a bit hard to relate from here though - our afternoon temperatures are hovering around 100* F, although we lucked out this weekend and it was only in the 80's when we finished our rides.  Welcome back!

Maree,

Keep at it!  I hate working out in the cold-I guess that's why I'm in Texas.  I'm glad you're back at it.  Keep us updated!

I had my first sprint tri this weekend and absolutely loved it!  I'm ready for my next one in less than two weeks!

I hope training is going well for all of you!

It was awesome!  I loved every second of it.  I went really slow on the swim and the run, but I was first in my age group on the bike, which just so happens to be my favorite part.  I didn't race full out because I just wanted to have fun and get used to the sport.

For any first timers - it's really not as bad as you think it will be!  I was so prepared because of repeatedly going over everything in my mind for a whole week before.  I think it helped that my first one was an all women event as well.

One thing to keep in mind-nutrition is important even for short distances, especially if you're in a hot and humid place like Texas.  I can see how this sport becomes addictive!

Happy training all!

Hey everyone!  I did my second sprint tri in Austin, TX this weekend and shaved quite a few minutes off my overall time (even with the brutal "rolling hills" aka MOUNTAINS on the bike course).

I have one minor question: Does anyone have neck pain on the bike and if so, any tips on the remedy?

Otherwise, I just moved to College Station, so I'm hoping to find a nice place to practice soon.

I hope everyone's training is going well, and hopefully it's not as hot there as it is here!

Krystal, I just searched the forums, and there are several threads on neck pain.  I didn't have time to read them all.  I used key words Neck Pain, and searched only titles for all posts .  The search forums button is on the right hand side (in text) at the top of this page just below the Gear Reviews button.

I found that as I increased my bike time and therefore spent more time in the aero position, the muscles on the back of my neck would get sore. If that is the problem your having, just more time in the saddle helped me. It was just a matter of using muscles that hadn't been used and needed to get used to it. I also found that stretching my neck on longer rides really helps as well.

Good luck!

Okay here I go - I am a mad scientist by trade - microbiology/genetics to be exact, and then am also a medical technologist.. left the trade a while back but still love the SCIENCE!!!  It just never goes away!!

Am really really new, so I am just getting started - I am doing this walk/run program starting Monday but as a former swimmer will start throwing that in the mix too!

Core exercises?  Strength training? Nutrition? tell me tell me tell me!!
